weird mezzanine thing but it still looks great, especially with all that dance room on the floor, always liked any HoB.
show looks quite good, nice pics!!!!
the orpheum has been the main boston venue for mid sized acts for years. not sure why this article completely ignores it. anyway the HOB is probably going to make the orpheum lose most of its acts.
very nicce. caught em in toronto last week best show of 09 thus far, seriously i saw their set at rothbury and was blown away but toronto was insane, three hour set, i was deaf in my left ear for two days (never happens)
by the way she is beautiful
this venue looks sterile and minimal.
not at all comfortable.
been to many venues. and I have never liked any house of blues.
thievery is cool and I would bite the bullet and see them in a HOB, if I had a chance.. for sure.
THIE-V-A-RY COR-POR-A-TION!Saw them as well at the Roth-en-bury and was blown the fuck away and just saw them open their radio retaliation tour in chi-town on the 20th...it was unbelievable, truly an insane and dirty dirty dirty dance party...
Thievery can definitely throw it down hard. I saw Roth and Chicago shows, such an eclectic group, dirty dirty dance party indeed ^^
38-45 the thievery number, the corporation
"...unplanned encore following a set that they specifically said knocked Chicago off the "best gig of the tour" spot."----dam, this must of been the headiest of shows!!!
I'm sorry, but i was at Rothbury and the Chicago shows and I thought the Chi town show was horrible. On the other hand Rothbury went down as one of my alltime favorite shows. I am shocked to hear that thievery themselves thought it was a good show, in my opinion the vocals where off they lacked some serious energy. They even commented about it looking like the place was all dressed up to go to dinner. Also i dont take molly so dont even go there, but i dont think i saw one glow thing the hole night. I would have to say it was one of the crappiest shows i have seen to date. Sorry...
I was there and this show was incredible. The shots they have of the HOB don't really do it justice. They went to show much work with this venue and it really did pay off. That being said this isn't a very good review of the show it's mostly just talking about the venue. This was my first Thievery show and after that I guarantee it won't be my last.
I'm with drbell...no mention of the Orpheum seems absurd as it's truly the most comparable venue to the new HOB. Actually, it's likely the only true comparable venue as the defunct venues didn't have that sort of capacity. Weird. I'm sure the $11 beers will ensue if they haven't already since it's a franchise affair that is in bed with LiveNation / T'master. Ugh. I quite sure I'll trudge there begrudingly like the rest, though, as we have no choice.
HOB in Chicago is where its at.
lets bring them back to Rothbury.... lets just try not to have Primus playing at the same time, please?
Oh btw, is this a review for thievery corporation or some shitty write up for ticketbastard/live nation to help win people over?
Thievery is sickening, I hope to see them at Roth. Also, I agree with stuckinabeat I don't want to read articles that seem to praise the very corporations that rape my wallet when I want to go have a decent musical experience,
Thievery Corp is where it's at! Regarding the whole ticketmaster thing, every show I see I try to avoid ticketmaster but there a MONOPOLY! It's difficult. HOB is cool but it starting to seem like they might be popping up like mcdonalds around the USA.
how about a review of the "best show of the tour" and not a blowjob of the new venue?
would the jackass giving people thumbs down for no reason like to step forward?
Nice pics. Venue sounds great... but where's the show review?! Of the best show of tour?! Are you a paid PR rep for House of Blues? That's what it sounded like. More about Thievery & less about HOB.
This venue is horrible. A total disgrace. Really no different then what was there before. 2,500 people for a GA venue. They pack you into every available piece of real estate. The line to get into this place went all the way to the Cask and around Brookline Ave. Not to mention, atleast a half hour to get to a urinal, no room to move and poor sight lines if you're not a tree topper.
i was at the show in philly this past weekend. it was ok.
When they play the same show each night its hard to tell which show would be best.........
Rothbury was the heat thou, Saw them on NYE in San Fran... show was weaksauce
this is a mediocre review, if you can consider it a review. yeah you sure told us a bunch about this new HOB but everything you said about thievery corp was related to how they played the venue. and i don't believe that any single venue--especially what is i guess a 'mid-sized' venue like this--would employ 350 people; what, are there like 100 bartenders? i'd like to see some comfirmation on that. plus, that venue looks really boring. and i didn't know that all HOB's had that religious 'all is one' design above the stage, so there's points off for lack of originality.
also i'm calling thievery corp hypocrites for dealing with ticketmaster/livenation. i've been a fan of their music for years, and have never seen them live, so i was heartbroken when tickets for the chicago show cost $50+; $40 face + bullshit fees. i thought this band labeled themselves as socially/politically conscious, but i won't believe that coming from anyone who deals directly with scum like ticketbastard.
plus, only three pictures--and bad pictures--of the two guys who are the foundation of this band? and not a single picture of the complete stage setup (because this is such a big and unique live band)? that's weak. i'm trying not to be negative, especially because this 'review' looks pretty well thought-out and well-written, but this is one of the worse articles i've seen on here recently.
I am baffled just as few of the other posters are...Chicago was the best show of their tour up til then? Must not have been much of a tour...
They started late and ended early in Chicago, there were sound problems, and it was over 50 bucks...
Fuck Langerado... its the reason the Atlanta show is canceled!!
i wanted to go to make the trip down from Albany for this soooo bad, but school fucked that right up. For people craving some Corp check out the archived show on iclips from Voodoo in New Orleans! well said Dr.Bell, it's a shame too. i dug the orpheum.
yea chicago sucked and brians right, they need to practice what they preach. Thievery was for a brief moment one of my favorite bands until i realized they are full of shit!
The bands are stuck in the middle, if you don't deal with ticketbastard you don't play. They even have a hand in the paradise which is only 650 people , if Pearl Jam cant fight these guys who can.
You know a city has hit a cultural rock-bottom when House of Blues becomes its premier live music establishment.
I can't f'n believe I got shut out of this show. Box office wasn't open for a month and a half after the show went on sale... Didn't want to pay Ticketbastard fees and got jobbed... Oh well. Looks/sounds like it was incredible.
Every HOB i've been to has been way to jampacked. I think they focus too much on wierd design and not on comfort and capacity
i do wish i lived in boston again
Can't wait for Jeff Beck at HoB!!
I went to the public opening where J Geils Band played for the first time in some years. I will say that the writer hit the nail on the head, it is a nicer room than the avalon with the updated decor and opened up space. But it feels commercial and the people working there really had no idea what they were doing. I can only imagine what Bisco was like on saturday. Either way its a nice second best venue to the orpheum. With our only other options being the paradise(security and venue kind of suck in my opinion. Some people like the room which isnt to bad sounding but its awkward to move around the place), fleet pavilion (it has its issues) and smaller venues like bills bar and ish, House of Blues is nothing but a plus. Either way i am going to see derek trucks, two nights of moe and umphreys there in april. At this point the tickets are managable, at 32$ after charges.
stuckinabeat - I dont know what show you were at seeing them at Rothbury - but one of the ten dudes on stage (sleepy) I think said to the crowd "you guys are fucking nuts" I remember it like yesterday - and have the livedownload to prove it...All I know if the first 15 or so rows were absolutely on fire and I was left a puddle. That being said - Eric, Rob, and Co. please come west coast, maybe a little SD!!!
i may have read your post wrong...its not that clear.
