Hookahville Spring XXXI

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND WARMS UP WITH
EKOOSTIK HOOKAH, LES, TOUBAB KREWE, WAILERS

ekoostik hookah
Hookahville XXXI has been announced for the weekend of Saturday, May 23 – Monday, May 25. The longstanding biannual event is held Memorial Day weekend at Legend Valley (formerly Buckeye Lake Music Center) in Thornville, Ohio. This is the 15th year ekoostik hookah has hosted this event. This 31st installment surely makes this the granddaddy of band curated jam oriented festivals, and JamBase raises a glass of the good stuff to the band for their tenacity and perseverance in keeping this tradition alive.

The initial lineup for Hookahville XXXI is:

ekoostik hookah (2 nights, 4 sets)
Les Claypool
The Wailers
Toubab Krewe
The Ark Band
Oakhurst
Freekbass
Mifune
Sweet Water Meltdown
Higgins-Madewell Band

More acts to be announced.

Gates open at 8 am on Saturday, May 23. Early Bird Camping available for Friday, May 22 at 3 pm. Early Discounted tickets and VIP tickets now available at HERE.

Always seeking to give its attendees the best experience possible, for the first time ever Hookahville is offering a limited amount of VIP tickets for only $150. This never-before-offered package includes behind-the-stage camping next to your car with easy access into the concert bowl and expanded facilities. These limited VIP tickets are available only in advance and will not be available for purchase at the gate.

Another Hookahville first, following the end of music on the late-night stage, there will be an all-night Disco Tent in the Concert Bowl for keeping the party going until the crack of dawn.

Beginning as a humble fundraiser and campout on band co-founder Dave Katz’s wooded property, the two-day event has grown steadily over the past 15 years. In the past, Bob Weir & RatDog, Willie Nelson, David Crosby, Arlo Guthrie, David Grisman, Dickey Betts, Galactic, Jazz Mandolin Project, Leftover Salmon, Keller Williams, among dozens of other notable artists, have played the Hookahville stage.

With family friendly and quieter camping areas, Hookahville’s younger attendees can enjoy Kidz Jam as those 12 and under are admitted to the festival without charge with a paid adult. Expanded from previous years, this season’s Kidz Jam features a gigantic obstacle course, face painters, clowns along with plenty of crafts and recycling projects designed to delight and educate.

A limited number of $50 tickets are available now. After these are gone, tickets will go up to $65 and then go up to $80 at the gate. Children 12 and under are admitted to the festival free with a paid adult. Each Hookahville ticket includes music, parking from Saturday at 8 am – Monday at noon, along with all of the basic camping necessities with restrooms, drinkable water, a medical tent and handicap accessible camping sites. Numerous vendors are also set up onsite offering a variety of cuisines to choose from and other merchandise.

. Early bird tickets are available at the gate only beginning Friday, May 22 at 3 PM EST. Early bird tickets allow early entry, camping and music for an additional $20 with a paid festival ticket.

as a long time hookah fan, i've seen them and stuck with them through their changes and gotta say they still put on a helluva show and hookahville is still a great festival for your money. they may not get the greatest guest bands but you can count on a few great acts at each hookahville, and 4 sets of hookah alone is great for the money. see you at hookahville

Another pin in the map for Les,

or feather in the cap, one way or another.

I would honestly be willing to put money on it that Claypool

has played a wider variety of festivals than anyone else out there.

Maybe not counting say Roo 1,2,3,4,5 but more like Roo,Roth,Lang,HighSierra, etc, etc.

(i believe they sold and developed the land at frontier ranch) and you cant beat fifty to eighty bucks... as for the band much better with mullins back... miss johnny not so much ed. gonna try and follow in the footsteps of old bill and go BACK to hookahville!!!!

Hookah and LV keep ticket prices low and the lineup is always quality. This festival is very family friendly and you don't have to hike miles to the stages. Hookahville is a gem of a festival. With many festivals these days turning into corporate playgrounds of consumerism it is a breath of fresh air to witness Hookahville thrive. "No hassels or bad attidues is the way we like things here." HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Yeah, the lineups are sometimes great, sometimes not so great, but Hookahville to us is where you go every year to see all the great people you only get to hang out and party with a couple times a year. (Usually Fall and Spring Hookahville) All you Ohio Haters really are clueless, I have traveled to many a show in many a state and always have the best times at Hookahville. Seriously if you have never been there how can you rag on it. If you know the right folks this is the best place to party ever. Everything and Everyone is Kind at Hookahville and arould C-Bus in General. Yes, it can get out of controll from time to time, but you can walk away from any of that and go somewhere more chill. Keep Hating, we don't want your bad attitudes around our good time anyway. Hookahville is what every band aspires to do when they start throwing their own festivals. These guys are great at what they do and they do Hookahville best!!!

Hookahville at Legend Valley sucks because:

1. There are uniformed and plainclothes officers from the local sheriff's dept. all over the venue; riding on golfcarts, walking through campsites, and performing random searches at the gate. I talked to a kid at fall '07 H'ville that had his new, unused glass pipe that he bought from a licensed vendor inside the festival grounds confiscated by the cops at the gate. These are uneducated, backwoods Ohioan cops that get a deep satisfaction from messing with hippies.

2. The cops are there because of the huge contingent of coke, meth, and opiate addicted Hookah fans. I have never seen so many hard drugs going around ANYWHERE as I have at Hookah shows, it can get scary at times. Not to mention all of the thefts, rip-offs, and bunk drug sales that go on to support these people. Worst scene ever, makes bisco kids seem like sophisticates.

3. Hookah is the headliner. Yeah, they can rage at times, but I've given them so many chances and they just never take me to where I want to be in the music. It's mediocre at best, I have no idea why so many other Ohioans get so pumped up over this band.

4. Camping is separate from parking, you have to lug everything from the car into the venue. If you don't have a wagon or other gear-transport device, you're screwed.

5. Did I mention random personal effects searches at the main gate? This list could just go on and on....

You may not like the band, but you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to the scene. There is nothing at Hookahville that you can't find at any other festival. The cop presence is also no more than at others, and the random searches were put in place for a reason, and that reason was not to pop random hippies. Word is there will be no more cops at the gate doing searches, and this show will be rockin' with a strong lineup from top to bottom. If you haven't been before, check it out and make your own decisions. There's a reason this festival has been around since 1994, and has made it with no major money behind it. Oh, and by the way, while Summercamp moved from another date to Memorial Day Weekend, Hookahville has always been on that weekend. There's no reason to move. 30 Hookahvilles and still counting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And one more thing. The on their next tour, the Wailers are playing the entire Exodus album, so it won't be like any Wailers show you have seen before. Of course, it will be if you see them somewhere else before Hookahville.

I know Hookah and the majority of their fans are good people, but I've done a lot of Hookah shows, and seen a lot of the bad element of the jam crowd bringing a lot of their shitty vibe and just acting blatantly stupid. I didn't mean to try to hurt the festival's business or offend the band's following. But, those people that I watched passing out with balloons in their mouths, blowing crushed up pain-killers, and hitting meth pipes, well, I meant to offend all of them. They're the reason that there are cops patrolling the pit during shows at Buckeye Lake. They need to be turned around and told to go home as soon as they get off at I-70. Ostracize those folks into going elsewhere, and Hookahville could be as cool as any other small festival.

dontworryaboutit Tue 2/17/2009 11:35PM
+1 Votes Thumbs down! Thumbs up!

No argument there. just wanted to point out that those elements are at every festival. I've seen the same at small and big festivals alike. It's really all about finding the good at festivals and making that your scene. I wish none of the things you mentioned were around at any shows I attend, and I've been to them in just about every state. Very credible sources have said that at this coming show there will be a huge emphasis on returning Hookahville to what it was in the beginning. And that may mean a lessening of much of what you're talking about. It's unfortunate that the longer a festival is around, and the more the word gets out about it, the harder it is to keep bad elements away. It happened on Dead lot, Phish lot, and more festivals than I care to mention. Like I said before, come and check out Hookahville for yourself. It's been around a long time, and it's never let me down.

What's the matter KristySkies, you can't make your own post, so you just copy Buckeyedye's? Again, go for yourself and see. There have been less arrests at past Hookahville's than at any festival covered on these pages. Guaranteed! How do you know what actually led to the confiscation of the pipe, or whether the story you heard is accurate? I could tell you horror stories about probably every festival you like to go to. Any true festival fan knows how to be at a festival and get the most out of it without being at risk of anything unfortunate happening.

Be careful the place is crawling with undercover drug task force agents. And Licking county has a reputation of being rough on drug offenders. I was busted there 2 years ago for selling 3.5 grams of weed. Lawyer was 5,000 court fees 1500 since i didnt live there many trips back 2000 they wanted to make me a felon and put me in jail for 18months. Never been in trouble before. Im on probation for 3 years drug screens every 2 weeks 30 drug classes. You dont want to know how much that cost. It has cost me like 10,000 to stay free. Be careful they are drinking and partying just like everyone else. You think you can spot them but you cant they have cameras hidden every were. They now what everyone is doing trust me.

Sorry about your troubles Busted, but you were lucky it happened in Ohio where the laws are much better than in most of the states in this country. you can try to skew the numbers all you want, but those who regularly attend know the facts. Of course people have been busted. Name one festival where people haven't. Name one festival that doesn't have undercovers. Let me save you the time. There aren't any. And cameras? Now you're really stretching it.

For those of you who come, we'll have a great time together. for those who don't, I hope you have a great time at whatever you end up doing that weekend. I won't sit here and slam other bands or festivals, because there's no need. There's a place for everyone, and that weekend the place for me is at Hookahville. Yes i am telling the truth. I was given ILC which stands for Intervention In Lew OF conviction. For one count of trafficking in weed 3.5 grams of nug i signed a paper in the court room that says if i test positive for anything or brake any law i will go straight to prison in ohio for 18 months and the judje looked me right in the eye and said i would do every day of it i still have 2 years to go. My case took a year to get to court and ive been on ilc for i year now with 2 to go. AS far as the cameras go you obviously have never been inside that mobile command unit that they will have parked just as you get off the interstate which they move to inside as show gets going. You know the one im talking about its white has satelite dishes on the top. When they bust you thats were they will take you. Thats were they will try to get you to rat out your friends back at your camp. While your in there you cant help but see all the monitors they have on one wall with agents hovering around it pointing things out. ive been going to jam shows and festivals for 20 years never had a problem. as far as you would be in prison if this was the case. If you go to hooka and try to sell shit thats were your going to end up, maybe not this spring maybe not fall maybe not even next year but when its your turn thats were you will go if you dont have a shit load of money im not trying to bash the gig or the band. Everyone needs to know about the Licking county drug task force while there busting you they act like its no big deal like your not going to be in that much trouble becouse its just a small amount of weed. But when that grand jury sends you a letter to show up for court a year later now its your turn to pay the piper. And when they start talking about makeing you a felon you will shit your pants. you should do some research about a felony conviction. Just a few things you lose your right to vote your right to own a firearm of any kind did i mention the fact that you will never have a well paying job for the rest of your life. you will be doing all the bullshit work hard labor for low pay. So please dont tell me im not telling the truth. I would guess your a fairly young man i know you would not like this shit to happen to you. AS far as were the cameras are im like you i have no idea were they could be. Maybe in the grills of cars in trees in the hats of some of the agents i dont know all i know is there watching everyone. I think part of the problem is they have enough agents for a large dead show but hooka is a small fest. im not saying dont go to hooka even though i never will ( i will catch hooka when they play outside of licking county) im just saying be careful and please spread the word to watch out. just when you think you got it made there is danger at your door. right JERRY tells us that for a reason

well busted im no spring chicken ive been seeing hookah since day 1 before that i toured with the dead, ive been around the block a time or 2.i dont need to go to the ville to sell anything so i wont end up in your situation.11 months is what u get in ohio for trafficing nugs even if u take the probation they offer your still a felon.i know plenty of felons in this state that have great paying jobs.there is no way im looking over my shoulder and shitting my pants over a felony.life does go on with or without a felony i use to live in licking county its not horrible u just need to be smart about things.sorry u had a rough time there but u are in a catergory of only a hand full.i know the mobile command unit your refering too.i have never had any issues with licking finest, ive been to 27 villes.rumors get blown up with stories like this.im not doubting u got busted but come on they are not busting anymore people than any other fest.sounds to me u got the wrong lawyer and not knowing how u got busted i would say u may have been out in the open no offence man, but they dont have cameras at campsites where the deal should go down.once again sorry it happened to u but the majority get away with alot more than 3.5grams

OOh, so hard to resist. You're right KristySkies. Everything about Ohio sucks. The music, the land, the people (although most of us do know how to spell ghetto). In fact, the only thing worthwhile about Ohio is that we don't have people with uppity attitudes. People who think that where they're from is so much better. People who don't appreciate people for who they are, but like to generalize based on where they're from. I guess the best thing about Hookahville might be that it keeps away people like you. See the rest of you there!

hookahville kinda does suck now...used to be off the hoook. been to every one since '95 until spring 07 which is now reffered to as shadyville in my book. all u kidz goin have fun be and be safe but ill never walk through those sheriff guarded gates again (unless the lineup is sicker than sick) love the band not as impressed as i used to be i really think that mullins sucks (i kno alot of u dont agree but its my opinion) ill be at every show they play at up at the ledges and all the rest up there to its my favorite place for festies :) have a grate summer kidz mine is definately gunna freakin rock!!!!!!!!!

bubbakushman, ive lived in ohio 12 out 20 years of my life, and it sucks. Athens is off the hook? you must be a crackhead. change your comment to "anyone that has never left ohio thinks ohio is great, anyone thats been outside, knows it sucks." Secondly, hookahville is a shady ass dump. evolve beyond ekoostik hookah

Here's an idea for everyone complaining about police and being busted at this festival or any other: don't sell drugs.

Simple.

I've been to several Hookahvilles and always had a great time. I've seen people firing up right in front of cops and was shocked they weren't busted. I think as long as you don't act like an advertising idiot, you're fine. The band is still good but I liked Ed and Johnny better than Mullins. I saw One Under (their current band) at Peaches in Yellow Springs and they were very good. Check them out at archive.org, katz-n-jammers are there too along with tons of hookah shows. The guest list isn't what it used to be but for the price, with Les in, it's worth it. Freekbass and Higgins and Madewell are both pretty cool. Ohio might not be quite as musically rich as Maryland was but it beats living in a musical wasteland like say Montana. You just gotta poke around.

screw dopeville and to the person who said that Ohioans are people who dont brag about where theyre from, are you kidding me. Buckeye fans are insane dumbasses. tipping over cars posting signs that say "if you see a wolverine run it over" on a billboard. ive lived in ohio most of my life and at my young age i have never experienced such hatred toward michigan over football? on top of that all the racist hicks from columbus and lower. screw ohio, 3 more months and im out.. hookah blows

I have been to 10 hookahvilles and never had any hassles from cops or otherwise. Just be smart, like every other festival out there. This lineup kicks ass. There's nowhere I'd rather be on Memorial day. Jrp, you just don't know the right people, that's really unfortunate for you, message me and i'll introduce you to the best Ohio has to offer, promise :)

I am a 56 year old grandmother of seven and have going to the Valley since the 70's...It is one of safest venues I know to take your children and have alot of fun!! I have NEVER experienced anything dramatic as some of these people are saying!! There are alot of wonderful people having FUN!! The music always rocks.. They take alot of pride with having such a great place for people to come together..I WILL NEVER STOP GOING!! Can't wait to see The Wailers again!!

^i do not know why grateful garcia gathering went to that drugville dump at lv. they should have seen the fallout coming. least they did not cancelout. its a good thing they went back to wisconsin. the ville went south fast. oh yeah you can say the music is good but thats at every festival. the drug factor plus shady freaks at the ville remains unstable.

This is a very interesting msg board. Ive never been to hookah, dont do drugs like crack (or coke for that matter(unless its free(even then rarely accept))) pharm pills, meth, i dont shoot anything.... But i gotta say im intriuged to be surrounded by this shadyness. Sometimes it just makes those insane whirlwind guitar frenzied solos more intense, when youre in some sort of lost sea of loonyness.

But in the end good clean livin is good clean livin...and we owe it to our children (when i get there...)

You know I actually took the time to read through everbody's comments. But not one person has talk about the wonderful place called Nelson Ledges Quarry Park. If you really wanna come to a place and have no worries ( and that means you don't even have to carry your camping shit a mile to your campsite, you park where you camp) Please come and see hookah and all the awesome bands that make a pitstop at the Quarry. I guarantee that you will not only will have a amazing experience.....you might not want to leave.

I'm hoping that everyone knows that hookahville will be in kirkersville/pataskala at the frontier ranch this year and not at legend valley, somethin to do with on of the owners and a law suit with an ex husband IDK? but if any one could help I'm trying to find the dates and locations for all the hookahvilles and all i keep getting is the one coming up on the 23rd but i wanna know all the other states too. If any one knows where to find them i would greatly appreciate it
