The Dead Add 3 Dates

Phil Lesh by Robert Chapman
For the five people who haven't already heard the news through the Grateful Dead's instantaneous grapevine, The Dead have confirmed the addition of three dates to their 2009 tour, which kicks off April 12 in Greensboro, NC. Newly added shows include second nights in Chicago (May 4) and Mountain View, CA (May 14) - on sale February 20 and 22, respectively - plus a show in George, WA at The Gorge May 16, on sale February 20.

This marks the Dead's first concert trek since 2004's "Wave That Flag" tour, and all the gigs are "An Evening With" marathon, two-set shows, with no opening act, with the exception of The Gorge show, where they will be joined by the Allman Brothers Band and the Doobie Brothers.

Now if this whole tour was the Dead and Allmans, tix prices wouldn't be an issue, cause 100dollars for that is totally worth it. The Gorge will be sick...I wonder though if Michael Macdonald will be joining the Doobies, that would be a hilarious treat...wouldn't see that kind of audience at a Michael Macdonald concert. HAHA...Still looks like a sick night...have fun WA!!!

$100 per ticket at huge arenas throughout the country for, what i consider, a tribute band. i mean the best/most meaningful member is gone. it really is disgraceful in my opinion.

gmehendge, the douchbaggery of your statement about them being a cover band, and the most meaningful member being dead is so foolish that I don't know where to begin, so I won't.

on a completely separate note, I must comment on warmcarl's remark. Are you talking about actual mayonaise? HOw many jars of mayonaise could you have possibly had in your tent? and wouldn't they weight the tent down, so as not to let it blow away? either way, I have quite the odd image in my head, thanks. =)

i totally agree with many who have already posted, such high ticket prices is ridiculous especially given the economy; i'm sure they know the shows will sell out anyway, which makes the prices sting even more. do they think there's NOT a recession going on?! will some (all?!) of the profits be devoted to charity? i'm pretty disappointed =(

nomemory, I brought 6 jars of mayo with me to the Gorge in '04. I snuck two into the show so there was probably 3 or 4 still inside the tent when it took off.

Busch Stadium for Phish? Though not the hallowed old Busch but I think the Cardinals and their opponents should be the only thing on that field. I believe DMB played there recently; super lame idea. I am still sad about not getting Fox tickets, but for the people who are going to the St. Louis show it will be amazing. Pissed at all those scalpers who bought up tickets and are selling the STL show at ridiculous prices.

The Dead at the Gorge will be pretty rad. I will be listening to the Dobbies Reelin in the Years, wait that is Steely Dan, I guess I will be Taking it to the Streets then Jamming on a Mountain and finally looking at some Dark Stars.

0 Votes Thumbs down! Thumbs up!

I was bitching about the prices because, The Hundred dollar tickets were just too much, for me to do the whole tour, like i wanted. But 49 dollars for The Forum and 39 for shoreline is great. Some people might say they cant get tickets for that price.

Just dont buy tickets until the show. Even in 04, they still had tickets for sale at all the shows.

A hundred dollars for The Gorge is good. Not just The rest of the Dead, but the ABB and The Doobies. If youve never been to the Gorge, youre gonna love it.

If The rest of the Dead did the whole tour with the ABB, then i dont think the ticket prices would be that bad.

Also, People stink enough at these shows without mayo drippin' all over. Im sure its healthy and all but so is washing your hair in your own urine. So Dont tell these mayo drippers about it or else its gonna smell not only like the usual non showering people,,but add mayo and urine. Maybe 100 dollars is too much.

To all of you that are complaining about the price of the tickets, please keep in mind that a Grateful Dead concert is a place where thousands of people gather and bring there unmatched enthusiasum and good vibes, then marry it to amazing music to create a collective experience of energy that causes people to travel hundreds if not thousands of miles to experience. An experience that changed my life in 1983.

Through the years the Grateful Dead have consistently charged less then most and provided more. Real Deadheads understand this. When you complain about the ticket price you sound like an old man complaining that a candy bar used to cost a nickel. In reality your probably just a bunch of spoiled little jam band me heads that have gotten too used to clicking a mouse for free instent gratification! Your negativity is not welcome at a Dead Show.

P.S. That gooo all over the tent was NOT mayo, that's just what he told his friends.

I'm with Carl on this one. Just think about it. Creating a stable emulsion involves in this case the introduction of new material to be combined with what is already there. Unless the original material (whatever has been amalgamated) is somehow destabilised (beaten), it cannot incorporate (assimilate or accommodate) the new stuff (mayonnaise).

First off Jerry Garcia is dead, which means there is no such thing as the Grateful Dead or "The Dead" for that matter. Any real deadhead that actually saw the band isn't going to waste their time seeing this cover band. If you wanna go, go and have fun and shut up. You can all afford it, and its way cheaper than the HUNDREDS or even a grand you have to spend to get to a festival. And you can all lower prices if u dont buy em and then they are forced to lower them. Don't pay for your ticket than complain how expensive it is. Lazy middle class liberal yuppies love to complain about money while they work useless jobs and spend foolishly. And if you're really poor u got bigger things to worry about than a concert of hasbeens. There is a bigger picture here kids! As for the history of the Grateful Dead anything post '95 will hardly matter if even be remembered.

You make it sound like Phil fucked your wife then posted it on youtube for chrissake! The way I look at it for $50 buck at the Gorge = $5 for the Doobies, which I would pay in a club, $20 for the Allmans, which is cheaper than a normal Allmans show, and $25 for the Dead, how can you not justify paying $50 for that? Maybe its just you are not close enough to good venues and have to pay $100 for nosebleed, shitty seats, and if that is the case that does really suck. what happened to not ridiculously over-priced concert tickets?

i LOVE the dead but will probably not be attending any of these, especially because most of these shows are at huge arenas; i wish i could get to the gorge, never been there but from the pics i've seen it looks amazing and $60ish for the dead, allmans, and doobie brothers sounds like the best deal this tour. (allow me to dream of the dead playing the pritzker pavilion here in chicago)....

that said, i'd rather go spend the money on 2 or 3 other shows and support smaller up and coming bands than these guys who i'm sure are pretty financially secure. hopefully this means more dancing room at the shows i'm going to because so many people are dumping their money into this dead tour...

it's not really about spending the money on financially secure guys. if you can find a good deal, like the gorge which is totally worth the 50 bucks, then i say heck yes. i would rather the dead play a festie and some more outdoor arenas but they are big and have to play bigger places in order to allow for ALL OF THEIR FANS to make it to their shows! i understand the ticket prices are crazy for some, if not most, of those east coast shows. however, although phil, bobby, micket, and bill are financially secure, it's the dead and i would much rather see them for 50 bucks than pay 15 bucks for three other bands :)

and i don't think the dead tour is going to cause people to miss other shows anyway. i have many plans for this summer :) can't wait.

will 20 days rehearsals be enough? i think so. or at least hope so. they will need that at the very least to sound good.
