These guys are great, although the congress theatre sucks ass, but what can you do? I hope Cold Water Mystic is the opener for that show.(they opened for Pepper at Metro on halloween, so I hope pepper put in a good word about them to stoopid). If not though, I'll take Bad Religion any day of the week.

I have seen these guys a bunch and it seems evrey time I see them they are more and more drunk and do more screaming and yelling than performing. Hopefully their Florida run will be good this time around, I'll give it another chance.

The Congress doesn't suck at all, the "security" at the Congress is what sucks.

I like quite a bit of this bands studio stuff. I decided to check them out live for the first time at Roth last year. It was by far the worst show I saw that weekend. They insisted on playing their more punk influenced songs (not that there is anything wrong with punk) which did not fit into the vibe that I was in at least. They asked the crowd several times when we were gonna start the mosh pit. As i looked around at the hippies around me I could tell they thought the same thing I did "Are they serious?!?" Last time I was in a mosh pit was a Lollapaloza 94 I think. I will continue to keep Stoopid on a few of my playlists but do not plan on going out of my way to see them live again.

I agree that their reggae/studio/dub stuff (as well as their acoustic record, which is awesome) is their best stuff. The problem isn't that they play lots of "punk" live, it's that they play crappy punk, especially compared to a band like Sublime who played reggae/hip-hop and punk really well/authentic (coincidentally, Brad Nowell was a big supporter of Slightly Stoopid back in the day). If you like that cali-reggae sound, check out Filibuster and Bargain Music discs (both bands defunct). Agrolites are also worth checking out (old school ska/funk with a Clash-like stage show).

I agree, their studio output is better than their recent live shows. They used to bring a very strong, high energy performances, that were a nice balance of Cali Reggae, Surfer Punk, and acoustic jam. It seems that now, they've developed a bit of Jim Morrison syndrome before taking stage. Too bad, they're really good otherwise.

Hey now, say what you want about Slightly Stoopid and Pepper, but leave Sublime and Bobby Marley out of it. Pepper's okay in small doses, but I can't do more than two or three songs in a row before having to switch to like Hatebreed or System of a Down or something to balance things back out. It's just a little too beachy and laid back for me. I haven't heard enough Slightly Stoopid to voice my opinion, but what little I've heard, I've generally liked.

BTW, just to avoid being mocked, it should be known that I don't actually listen to Hatebreed or System of a Down.

the congress is legit..... any venue in chicago will be pretty gay about puffin down so watch out...no no on big blunts... glass is easy to pass, so hit this and hit that bud my friend, my friend....

I thought they were really good at Roth last summer(then again, I thought EVERYONE I saw at Roth was good last summer).

I think the congress sucks because of...

-shitty sound

-shitty location

-shitty parking options

-shitty building (walls and roof look like they are ready to go at any time)

-shitty willcall system(anyone else at bisco last weekend spend 45 minutes in a line that lead to a clusterfuck of people trying to get tickets?)

-and yes, shitty security (anyone else at bisco last weekend see the 2 sec. gaurds in the men's room BEATING THE LIVING SHIT out of that poor highshcool kid? Maybe they had reason, but it looked VERY excessive to me a few others in the bathroom line).

This place is worse that the Aragon (which is a bold statement). I think if they did massive work to it, it could be great, but I'm not sure they could fix the awful sound in there. (that last statement may be true of the congress and aragon as well).

GRAT VENUE TO CHECK OUT- The Bottom Lounge on the west side( I think it's on Lake). it's 2 floors, plus a roof-top deck that you can bring your drinks with you to go have a smoke. The actual music venue is just the right size, great sound, and a very friendly and cool staff, plus they let you come and go between that room and the other 2 bars, as well as the rooftop. I won't lie, since the first time I saw a show there, The Bottom Lounge has become my favorite venue in Chicago, if a show you want to see goes thru there, DON'T MISS IT!

i heard some live stuff which got me hooked initially, then picked up this Chronicitis and the newest Slightly Not Stoned Enough for Breakfast Yet Stoopid....I REALLY dig both albums as long as the vibe is right. Good driving, smoking, chill out music. As mentioned above, I do find myself skipping over a lot of the yelling/punky stuff (something I did NOT do with Sublime). Without making that comparison though, I really dig SS in the studio...still have yet to do the live thing though. Maybe I'll give them a go.

Chidodger, I saw that go down. Messed up to say the least. You are right about the Congress too. That show was my first there and I didn't think any Chicago venue could have sound as bad as the Aragon, but the Congress proved that assumption wrong. That kid the security had locked down had enough on him to send him away for life, but when I checked the Police wire I couldn't find any information on his booking. Hopefully the security let him go.

Hey, I live in Michigan, and actually I live about 3minutes away from where "the bury" is held. My grandpa is the cheif of the local fire dept. and also both grandparents are on the city council, I have heard lots of rumors from line-ups and from when the festival dates are going to be. I heard that the dates are still going to be over the fourth, and I've heard contrary things like the dates will be pushed back due to the JJ ranch ordeal just being okayed by judge and so they can get the headliners that they want! I will for sure let the community know whats up when i hear the for sure word~ I look forward to partyin my ass off with all of ya's this summer, see ya at the fests~

GMOO-Yeah, I think there were enough witnesses to land the congress security on the news, so I'm guessing they pocketed what they found, threw him out of the show, and avoided a possible lawsuit as well as not having to deal with the always friendly Chicago cops. Total, I think we saw at least 10 people get tossed out. I only stayed until about 5 songs into the 2nd set, how was the rest of the show?(my gf had work at 8am sunday, she dragged me out kicking and screaming, I really didn't want to leave at all, 2nd best bisco show I'v seen. Rothbury = #1)

Hey moe.0018, these guys aren't tools by definition, although they do alot of b.s. stuff they stick to their roots. The main reason that I have a little respect for these guys is the fact that they refuse to sell out to the main stream, they have had many offers to sign record deals with big labels and they tell them to go fuck themselvs. They may not be the best, but they stick to their roots unlike a shit load of so called jam bands that are outh there today.

chidodger, I was at that bisco show as well. I left early because I couldnt even compare the show to rothburys show. I was in the sky boxes and the sound was retarded. the entire concert sounded like one long muffled song. Congress sound does blow. Let me ask, since you left early as well, did you see that hippy chick with dreads bleeding from the top of her forehead and the side of her face right outside the front doors of the congress? My gf and I helped her find her cell phone, only because she "fell" thru the front window of the store front right next to the congress. her boyfriend was bleeding and had what looked to be a black eye as well, so I think it was quite the "lovers spat". That was quite a night, to say the least. Show-wise, I LOVED the first set, I had some Roth flashbacks with the in and out of flloyd. I'm hoping they play Northerly Island this summer (which has assholes working there as well, but it's a HUGE step up from the Congress).

I've seen six Stoopid shows in various places around the nation and they do like to get down before they hit the stage. The screaming is just something they do to show their fans that they're just having fun and they love what they do. Look at Bradley, when Sublime did shows they weren't thinking, "hey Brad you wanna take it easy this show." He fucking got drunk as shit and didn't give a fuck and that's the whole mentality of both groups, they don't give a fuck and they are playing music because the love to. If you don't like them then just don't post anything, didn't your guys' mothers teach you anything. I might not like one of your bands and you will never see me post something like "more like Keller Williams Real Estate" even though I like K-Dub. To all the ese locos I will see you at Boulder on Sunday.

nickrbk - the riviera is SWEET... i think it's safe to say it's my favorite indoor venue and i've only been once, for umph's night before NYE in 04.. the place looks awesome, like you just stumbled across this old ass building that has been stuck in time for at least 50 year., cracking old chipped up rich purple paint covers the walls. basically the place looks haunted as hell, i wouldn't want to be in there alone at night. as far as the sound goes, well like i said i only saw one show there but it sounded crystal clear, didn't miss a note, and that was umph's you know they drop way more notes than the average band.. long story short, you will not be disappointed at moe.! wish i could goe.!
