Langerado 2009 Canceled

Langerado 2009 Canceled

Langerado 2008 by Vann
The 2009 Langerado Music Festival has canceled due to sluggish ticket sales.

Langerado's independent local promoters, faced with a very tough decision in a dismal economy, canceled the 2009 event only after every possible option was exhausted.

As Langerado Co-Promoter Ethan Schwartz explains, "Langerado has always put the fan experience first. Unfortunately, during these difficult economic times, and facing a first year in a new venue, it's become apparent that we cannot execute a production that lives up to the high standards of our past events. Putting Langerado on hold was the toughest decision we have ever had to make. We are very grateful for the support of the greater-Miami community and the music community during this difficult time."

All tickets purchased will be refunded. Please look for ticket refunds to be processed in the next 5-7 business days. Each order will be refunded to the credit card in full, minus the included order processing fees. Shipping fees will also be credited for those orders that did not select the free shipping promotion. Visit www.langerado.com for more information.

rather than blame it on "tough economic times" you should replace that with "a shitty lineup that doesn't compare to our wildly successful fest last year"

Not having the festival on the same weekend as a Phish reunion should've been one of the easiest decision you guys had to make. Also, everyone's getting boned on the ticketing fees? So everyone that bought a ticket is giving you free money for screwing them over? How much were the fees? Anyone know?

Honestly, this makes a lot of sense. I don't think Phish was the main reason. They should never have changed the festival back to a non-camping event. I know quite a few people, myself included, who would have gone back this year had they continued it as a camping festie.

Moving it to Miami really was just a terrible idea. Not only do you have to pay for tickets, you have to worry about a hotel room, transportation while you're there, and the fact that all the shows are strewn about the city really kills the community vibe that festivals are loved for. If these guys were really knowledgeable about throwing a good festival they should have seen this one coming.

I had an incredible time at Langerado last year! Truly one of my favorite festival experiences ever! My heart goes out to everyone that works so hard to make it happen, and I trust that they'll be back with a vengeance (and not up against Phish's reunion at Hampton) in 2010!

Please don't let this happen to Coachella.

I do think the location change is what killed it too though, not just the economy. The new location is not nearly as adventurous.

As much as i loved the last two langerado's, especially last year at big cypress, it kicked ass!, looking at this lineup, no camping and high priced late night, there was no way i was going to this...

well... like everyone has said, when you start a jam festival that is camping, and then move it to an expensive and dirty city like Miami and then have crappy bands playing in a place that doesnt allow camping, what do you expect will happen? Honestly, if they would've had this on a farm it would have been cheaper to operate and they wouldn't be canceling it right now... its the camping and music that make it awesome! if you get arrested at suwanee you are a dumb ass and you probably deserved it. They only go after blatant idiocy there. If you chill out and are not flashy then you'll have no trouble. Plus suwanee is in the opposite end of the state. Cancelling languerado is actually very bad news for an already chaotic scene in hampton. If anything languerado was a distraction to all the ticketless hordes that will now with out a doubt be filling the hampton lots looking for tickets.

so i'm a schmuck? was i the one who got arrested at wanee and then used it to compare it to miami just because it was in florida? Your right, i didn't go to bear creek because the lineup sucked balls. I know not to try my luck at suwanee unless its absolutely worth it. Anyone could tell you that they have undercovers there. Its a family environment. If you got arrested you were probably being captain obvious. I've been there many times and never had any problems. Why? because i'm an adult and i choose to act like one. So if your gonna try and be stupid at suwanee, then prepare to face the consequences and don't blame miami for you getting busted 600 miles north of there.

wow. i think you'll start to see a serious decline in the festival scene. Langarado will not be the first one to go. Phish plays Bonnaroo, and then next year's Bonnaroo will flop. I give it two to three more years tops. People don't want to drop hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on a 'corporate-esc' music festival that is not about the scene and is overcrowded to beginwith. its not about the money people! and its not about the big bands either! i'm starting to get turned off by anything that reads 'livenation', 'superfly', 'goldenvoice', and the large venues owned by corporate gurus. they ruin music, the ruin spontenaity and improvisation, they set up the crowd to be entertained. i'll opt for my chill mom and pop venues and follow the bands that really get it - the ones who could care less about this shit and do not want to be a part of it. but i guess everyone needs that money money dont they...

It has nothing to do with economic times you dumb-fuck promoters!! It has to do with a SHITTY LINEUP and a SHITTY LOCATION! If you want Indie bands, then promote to people who dig Indie bands.... not a JAMBAND website! If you dont know the difference hire some hippi who does! Summercamp is smaller, shittier locale, but always shows up with a great line-up. Maybe Langerado should take some pointers on who people want to see. I'm honestly very sorry for the Langerado folks, who work very hard to put this festival on, and most of them do it for free. I'm sure they tried very hard to get a better line up than they had. Hopefully next year they will bring it back to the Everglades, where it belongs. Snoop Dogg headlining + Miami location = No sales. Return to your roots Langerado.

The service fees are charged by Ticketmaster or Live Nation. So, they get their money for doing the transaction, that is out of the promoters hands.

But seriously ... Phish in Hampton, a very weaksauce line-up, no camping, bad economy ... All you needed were a plague of frogs, the death of the first born and you'd have Moses and Jews escaping Egypt all over again LOL

I agree with the last comment. I had the time of my life at Langerado last year, However when I saw they were moving it to South Beach over Spring Break I immediately ruled the option out. Stick to the roots of a "festival"..... and don't line it up against a Phish Reunion. Sorry to see it go, but I'd be surprised if it rebounded from this mistake

Besides the obviously bad line up and controversial venue change... I think Ethan and crew dropped the ball and many issues:

Holding out on the lineup for so long?

Giving us a daily artist breakdown before any artist additions?

First Round of Artist additions 5 weeks before the fest?!

No late night details? (JUST TELL ME WHOSE PLAYING!)

All these reasons and so many more spelled FLOP from the get go....

Jambase was actually correct in their spelling of the word "canceled".

Check a dictionary before you make accusations and make all Jambase readers look like a bunch of noobs. Two "L's" are only used in Britain. "Canceled" is the correct American spelling.

Anyway..just thought you should know.

Wow, ppl are still getting screwed on the "processing fees" unreal. The entire ticket process has become one huge RACKET. Is "face value" even a reality anymore? You can scalp on ebay all day long. This is getting out of hand, especially for these bigger acts (The Dead, Phish, even Panic at major cities) you can't even get access to the tix and they end up on ebay 5 minutes later for $200 a ticket...at least, unreal. Plus your traveling expenses, PARKING fees, ridiculous charges in the venue for food/drinks. End of rant.

wow wow wow, this just makes me feel so damn goood. They thought that by going mainstream American and putting it in Miami with a bunch bands better found on MTV3 or something, that they would make bank. HAHA the guys with the money are clueless these days, just shows how regular joes in the know have the oppurtunity to rise up and take the money out of greedy hands by initiating projects that actually sell. This is a big win for quality festivaling. Miami Langerado was a spit in the face to anybody who attended the greatness of last year. Thank you everybody, we made this happen.

This is an amazing day in jam band history. Not only is Phish headlining Bonnaroo but Langerado is no more. First of all everyone that keeps saying that it is stupid that Langerado tried to compete with Phish need to chill out. Langerado was announced weeks before Hampton was even confirmed. Therefor you cant blame the promoters for this conflict of the dates. On the other hand I do agree that just about every other aspect of the 2009 fest where completely fucked up. The promoters of this thing must not have even been there last year, cause if the where they would have realized it was the best time ever. The venue, the music, the camping, and just the vibe of the entire weekend. Why the fuck would they try to change anything about it? Sorry I'm ranting, but the promoter not only fucked themselves, the fucked all the fans. Thanks guys!

Some of you should get your facts straight. Langerado was scheduled way before the Phish reunion was confirmed for the same weekend. It takes place, sorry, took place, on the first weekend of Spring Break. Like, every year past. So, did Phish really kill it? Of course not, there are plenty of jamband fans that don't have Hampton tickets that could gone down to Langerado. Rumor is this fest was doomed from the outset, and almost got cancelled before the line-up was announced. In hindsight, it should have been, because the line-up was weak and didn't generate any buzz that was necessary to propel it forward. That, coupled with the uninspired choice of a festival site, after whatever happened with Big Cyprus (and there are different versions you can look up floating around the net), brought it to it's inevitable conclusion. A return to Markham Park would have been a much better alternative. Oh yeah, the economy didn't help either, despite what some of you may say, as none of us outside the organization know for sure what they were dealing with financially. Cost's are cost's though, and times are unarguably tough.

I wouldn't be surprised if other fests got canceled, too. Langerado was excellent in its first five incarnations, without camping. True, they had limited camping at Markham Park, but it wasn't a true camping fest. I think people just didn't want it to be in downtown Miami and that's why there was so much hatred toward it. If they'd moved back to Markham Park, would y'all have thought differently about attending? I probably would have.

I don't think it was the line-up so much as the actual headliners that sucked. If it was the same lineup, but with stronger headliners(including Death cab, who, although popular, are NOT a major headlining act) I think this fest would have been ok. If it was The Dead, Panic, and any other strong draw(Tom petty, DMB, David Byrne, or any "big name" that could draw over 20,000 on thier own w/o a festival crowd) I think this would have been successful. Although they should have learned from Vegoose that a non-camping fest in a touristy city is not as easy to pull off as you would think. I live in Chicago, and even Lollapalooza in the past 3 years I attended was about 80% locals from the chicagoland and milwaukee area. I don't know what the music scene in Miami is really like, but in Chicago it is thriving, so Lolla was a perfect fit in that the promoters knew that there already was an audience here for the fest, unlike vegas, and I guess now Miami where they were depending on people to fly in and make a vacation out of it. I respect them for trying, but they should have known that it was MUCH easier said than done. On a personal note, I DO think that Death Cab is the most over-rated band of the past 5 years, but I blame Snoop and Ryan "I'll take my ball and go home" Addams as well as far as being weak headliners.

Not that it's relevant, but canceled IS correct (and so is cancelled). Interestingly enough, this comment text box underlines cancelled as being incorrect (try it). Have even seen it stated that canceled is the Am. English version and cancelled is the British English version.

Oh yeah - not sad to hear about Langerado - bad lineup and bad location. If I wanted to go ALL the way down to Miami, it wouldn't be for an expensive semi-festival.
