Adam Deitch: New Band/Tour

Adam Deitch debuts Break Science

Adam Deitch
This past weekend Adam Deitch debuted his latest project, Break Science, doing a few dates with Sound Tribe Sector 9 and Pretty Lights. It all jumped off in Boston (Paradise Rock Club), then on to Philly (The Note) and New York City (Bowery Ballroom). Break Science had two blessed, sit-in guest performances by Falu and Matisyahu. Break Science will hit the road for their first national tour, starting February 28 with The Disco Biscuits. The tour will be a mix of support dates with TDB, headline dates of their own (including The Mercury Lounge on March 7) and co-bills with BLVD in California.

Break Science is the culmination of a career of beat bending by its brainchild, Adam Deitch. Whether performing a DJ set with drums/programming or leading a live band, Break Science is club music in the vein of a "live mix tape," blending live trip-hop, broken-beat, dub, drum & bass and hip-hop. Adam is the son of two professional funk drummers, first picking up sticks at the age of two. Adam's career crosses genres, but has focused on hip-hop, funk and jazz, where he's played the role of both drummer and producer. Inspired by hip-hop at an early age – in particular, by Public Enemy and Eric B and Rakim – Adam began his production career by making loops on a tape deck in his bedroom. He's gone on to produce and play with some of today's top artists, including 50 cent, Redman, Talib Kweli, Snoop Dogg, KRS-One, MF Doom, J-Live, Jurassic 5, Justin Timberlake, John Medeski, and his own Fyre Dept, as well as being a regular part of Wyclef Jean's band.

Adam honed his drumming and production skills while attending the Berklee College of Music. While in Boston, Adam began several successful groups including Lettuce, a cult-status funk band that has been recording and touring for 15 years. In his third year in Boston, he joined the world renowned Average White Band, with whom he performed with for two years. Adam also has deep roots in the jazz world, recording and touring with jazz legend John Scofield. Adam has recorded on two of John's latest records (both released on legendary label Verve Records): Up All Night, on which he shares composer's credit on many of tracks, and the Grammy nominated Uberjam.

Deitch is one of the best in the biz without question. This new project is a departure from his style of drumming that I enjoy most (the Lettuce/funk material) but I bet it'll still be great.

I went to see eric krasno, will bernard, lonnie smith and my drumming hero, idris muhammed at a samll club in nyc a couple of years ago. i couldn't have been more upset when we got to the show and they announced that idris is having health issues and wouldn't be there. sitting in will be adam deitch- in walked this crooked hat wearing punk who proceeded to tear it up all night and keep me totally spellbound. never judge a book by its cover.

my first time catching adam was similar to mattlepis'. dumpstaphunk at tips... neville announces they have a drummer to sit in if his drunk ass can make it up to the kit onstage. he then proceeds to own. been a favorite of mine since.

while he could clearly shine with a project like this, i cant see myself buying a bisco ticket. hope to see ya heat up denver as a headlining act.

Certainly one of my favorite drummers. He blew my mind when I first saw him with Scofield several years ago. I've been hooked ever since!

"Hear the drummer get wicked." - I think Chuck D. was referring to Adam Deitch. What a sick, sick drummer. great ear for great music.

"Inspired by hip-hop at an early age – in particular, by Public Enemy and Eric B and Rakim" ---- That is some great taste right there.

really great stuff to start the night off, and the singer, Falu, who came on was nasty too..a really fresh thing to hear around the scene.

One of the best in the business hands down. His new Break Science material will provide a rocking night of dance music for his 4 upcoming west coast dates with San Fran based electro-hip-hop group BLVD. Both bands really throw it down.
