Holy crap, Winterwood is awesome...especially the studio track of The Slip/Medicine Music. I have been seeing Fred since 1998, back when the band was too big for the stage. I am deeply saddened at the loss of Reed at bass, that was a particular highlight to me. But then again, I thought I wouldn't be able to see this band without Jah Smart. I promise you, Mr. Brian Haas, that I will continue to see Jacob Fred every chance I get!! And who knows, I might have to check out TLG just to say hi to Reed and ask him WHY?!?!?!?!

free albums are always a nice thing...i havent really listened to this band yet but they seem amazing, ill definately be catching them at Waka this year to get my taste...but TLG i know is rocking, i saw them at Roo 07 and Waka 08 where they jammed out greatly both times.

it's so rad to see tracks that have been staples in at live fred shows for years finally get recorded!

after hearing winterwood and some of the recent shows, i'm convinced that Reed departing was the best thing for both parties.

jah is a little busy with fareed. i want reed to play as much as he can with t.l.g.. They should go on a huge world tour that lasts three years.

man i been listening to this album alot the last few days and its very good, the whole thing is very soldi including the cover of crazyfingers, very mello and very nice

the new album is okay. most of it sounds like second rate mmw. nothing as beautifully out there as lil tae.

i miss the abscence of reed but as long as haas is in the picture there will always be fred, free is without a doubt my favorite word

Wow, Winterwood sounds nothing like MMW. I suppose the Armstrong and Ellington tracks might be vaguely in the same vein, but nothing else on the album is. I don't really get that.

I love that "The Slip" ("Medicine Music?") and "Vernal Equinox" are on the album, but they're the new arrangements. I wish they had done an electrified, live-in-the-studio album in 2001 (with Richard Haas) and 2003, to capture those moments in time. I love All is One, but to me it was a little tentative, capturing the band right between great periods. Anyhow, I'm still glad those two songs are there, and they sound amazing.

Let me just say I'm THRILLED that Reed's octavized (is that a word?) bass is all over the album.

For what it's worth, I begrudgingly admit that JFJO needed to do something new. It's almost like Brian and Reed did all they could do together, at least for now, and everything after the first half of 2005 was like them winding down (that Columbus house party show from '07 on the LMA is sicknasty in parts, though - Reed did more with his 6-string guitar on that performance than all the others combined, IMO!). I tried to deny it to myself, but if you listen to all the documented shows, there's a difference. Like everything was more routine, maybe? I don't know. Don't hate me if you're reading this, Fred.

yeah, ive seen them without mathis 3 times. All 3 incredible. Its definetly about the group with JFJO, not individuals, definetly check it out, very well worth it.
