This is getting to be a bit too much.

What's with this long string of musical deaths?

Billy Powell was an awesome keyboardist. I can hear that honkey-tonk piano at the end of Sweet Home Alabama in my head right now as I write this.

Original Skynyrd was and is an everlasting piece of the foundation of rock.

Old Skynyrd was my shit as a kid. Very sad day indeed.RIP Billy your music touched many for decades.enjoy your transition into the other side.

Artimus gets no love cause he is a convicted child molester. Thats another sad story in its own right.

In the Wake of BP's Death, http://www.amazon.com/Skynyrds-First-Complete-Muscle-Shoals/dp/B00000DI0H everyone should own this album. The complete Muscle Shoals recording, hard to believe these guys were 18-20 years old and made such classic songs.

My favorite Billy Powell was always the Tuesday's Gone solo, a great parting song, end of the night ballad (a la Dazed and Confused) that sent chills down my spine

sad news, billy was a great piano player and a really great person. gary rossington is the last original member playing in the band now, artimus pyle is still alive as well. this band went through one of the worst tragedies of any band in history when that plane went down in the 1970s. if you watch any of the documentaries on skynyrd, billy is the first one to give an interview outside of the hospital saying that he didn't think the band would continue. i was very happy to see them start touring again years ago with some new guys and the remaining members. i wonder if they will keep touring after this.

I have really been getting back into Skynyrd all of the old albums sound great as they have been re-done- also check out the two books on them one by Gene Odom-it;s OK the other one by Lee Ballinger it's GOOD. Freebird the movie is also on Amazon for cheap it's great. If I leave here tomorrow would you still remember me?!! Billy was a roadie then a great addition ,we'll miss you.

Furthepharmer-well stated. Prior to the crash Skynyrd was an outstanding band second only to the Allman Brothers in the Southern Rock hierarchy. Powell's keys on Tuesday's Gone and the live version of Freebird on One From The Road are goosebump material. Just another reminder to see the greats while you still can because you never know how long it will last. After Gregg Allmans hep c scare last year I will be seeing them every chance I get. Still missing Jerry-always will.
