TEA LEAF GREEN | 10.20 | LAST DAY SALOON

Was it the sickest ever? Maybe not. Was it really close? Hell yeah. When you find yourself jumping up and down, laughing and pumping your arms uncontrollably in the Last Day Saloon, of all places, all you can think is, "I'm having THE BEST TIME!"

That's what happened at the LDS this past Saturday night with the one and only Tea Leaf Green. For those of you who aren't in the Bay Area, man, you don't KNOW what you're missing. This band, in its youthfulness, has nothing but greatest hits, and they pulled them all out on Saturday night.

Netwerk: Electric opened the show on Saturday night and although I hadn't yet arrived, I heard they put on a killer set. If you haven't seen Netwerk yet, what are you waiting for? Another incredible Bay Area band that just keeps getting better and better. They'll be on the move to electrify some other parts of this nation so stay tuned...

So, TLGers came out strong with "Sex in the 70's" to open their incredible set. Guitarist Josh Clark was having fun right from the start as he teased us with a little "2001." Starting the show with "Sex in the 70's" was quite a triumphant statement, as this song peaks right from the start. "Mama tell me, mama tell me, about the sex you had in the 70's... FEELS SO GOOD!" They then went into a TLG classic called "The Garden" which, I swear, is nothing less than epic. [Listen to "The Garden"]

"Hot Dog" followed which is a tune about guitarist Josh Clark's favorite food. "Jubilee" is another huge song that featured a brand new section at the LDS. "Panspermic De-evolution" just rips, plain and simple. These are the "big boy" jams that will make the hair on the back of your neck stick up. "De-evolution" went into a favorite of mine, "Ride Together" which features great vocals by Professor T (Trevor Garrod) "My friends all laugh at me. Said I got two good eyes but I still can't see. Wild world keeps on turning. I got good cards but the wrong man's dealing." You can feel great about this song. [Listen to Ride Together]

The crowd at the Last Day was really into the show and the band felt it and gave that energy right back. When "Freedom" came the whole crowd was ready for it - "Freedom! Don't come easy to me! Sugar, tastes so sweet 'cuz it's free!"

The night turned uber-special when birthday boy Ben C got to do his rhyme, "Planet of Green Love", an ode to an herb that is held so dear to many. This "Planet" featured the first ever choreographed "dance" sequence between Ben and Josh. Nice moves!

As they jammed out of "Planet," Josh said, "Ok, we're going to do this and then go off the stage but we can do one more so call us back for an encore." So, sure enough, they finished and walked off stage winking. The crowd roared and the boys walked back on stage for a surprising encore of "Tequila." (Not the traditional version, their own twist on the popular drink) Ripping through this jam, the night came full circle as Josh once again teased "2001."

It was a rockin' night at the LDS on Saturday and I'm so glad I was there. This band is so much fun to see and the jams just rage. They really "go for it" which is so exciting. What have they got to hold back for? You're only young once, right?

Tea Leaf Green won't be held down in the Bay Area for long so when they come to your town someday, check it out!!!
