Led Zeppelin Looking To Tour And Record Without Plant

Led Zeppelin Looking To Record Album and Tour Without Robert Plant

Led Zeppelin
Reports have surfaced that Led Zeppelin is looking to tour and record a new album without original pipes man Robert Plant. According to a report on NME, Jimmy Page's manager Peter Mensch confirmed that the band would move forward if they could find the appropriate singer.

"Jimmy Page has been playing guitar professionally since he was 16-years-old. Jimmy Page likes being a musician. That's what he does! He doesn't want to be a race car driver or a solicitor," said Mensch during an interview with 6music."

"So they [Page, Jones and drummer Jason Bonham] did the show [at London's O2 Arena in 2007] with Robert Plant; they had a really good time rehearsing, the three of them, before Robert showed up. And they decided that if they could find a singer that they thought would fit their bill – whatever their bill was at this stage in their career – that they'd make a record and go on tour" said Mensch.

Mensch refused to comment on who Plant's replacement might be.

Robert Plant confirmed last year that he was no interested in touring with Led Zeppelin.

So why don't the three of them start a new band with a new singer and not call it Led Zepplin. Because with out Plant it is not Led Zepplin.

Led Zeppelin minus Robert Plant does not = Led Zeppelin!!. This is like Audioslave calling themselves Rage Against the Machine. If they want to tour and record, OK. But call it something different. And Jimmy Page has gotten really sloppy in his old age IMHO. This is not about music, this is about $$$$.

HAH!

Maybe it's about money, maybe it's not - couldn't he just be at a point in his life where he needs to get back out there? In a big way? There's a few other bands getting back together in the near future that I know are the *POINT* for this entire website, and one might raise similar questions about them (especially with the dismissal/dissolution of Dionysian Productions?)...

i would pay 100 a ticket if Chris Robinson sang w/ em. and i'm not even a huge crowes fan... I LOVE the crowes, but I'm not HUGE into them.... I really love Chris Robinson's voice and he would fit perfectly... and that tour The Crowes did with Page was epic...

I think Led Zeppelin is the hands down most BADASS band of all time, Jimmy Page = GOD no gave God his power, John Paul is a monster at playing both bass and piano, JOHN Bonham was a god of drums so Jason must be good. However Robert Plant was a good singer for Zep but needs to get the fuck outta Allison Krauss's butthole and have possibly the best reunion tour known to man!!!!! Fuck Plant!!!!!

crazyleggedelbow -- Led Zep without Plant is worse than Queen with Paul Rogers...

-----------

Actually that wasn't sooooo bad. I saw that show and if you were going to just see Queen then you are absolutely correct. However, with Paul Rodgers you were able to see Free and Bad Company at the same time. So three partial musical acts for the price of one wasn't too bad. Zeppelin is really a Jimmy Page creation and Robert Plant has wasted so much of his career with substandard music that quite honestly ANY talented sound alike would do. I could see someone saying without Bonzo, Page or even Jones, Zep isn't Zep, but not Page. Honestly he is a self aggrandizing fading talent and without Peter Grant to keep his ass in line, he really ends up detracting more than contributing. The rest of the musicians want to play for the love of the music, Plant for some reason has always had a stick firmly lodged up his ass about it.

AGREED...... No Plant no Zep. If Page and John Paul would show some balls and write a new group of songs with a new singer I would go ass another project. The managers quote are flawed. No one is saying Page should not play just have some integrity and work a new concept. The real issue is the money as Led Zep compared to another project.Prove your not rehashing and write something to move the masses.

Set for a mid-February debut, and tentatively scheduled in the 9:00 Wednesday timeslot, 'Rockstar Legend' will feature 16 up-and-coming vocalists competing for the opportunity to replace Robert Plant as lead singer in Led Zeppelin, an iconic '70s band planning a summer tour. Brooke Burke will return to host and Dave Navarro will again head up the celebrity judging panel. Navarro will be joined by original band members Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, along with Jason Bonham, son of deceased band drummer John Bonham. The show has received a 13-week commitment."

I saw Led Zepplin twice in 1977 and they were a monster of a band. As a drummer I'd never seen anyone play the drums like Bonzo. He was a freaking whirling dervish of hands and hair and was beating the living hell out of his kit. When Page took a guitar solo he would look out over the crowd and he knew he owned the place. Both Page and Plant were strutting the stage like true rock stars. Only John Paul Jones was low key but holding down the groove with a very heavy bass line so you always knew he was there. I still have my ticket stubs for both shows and each one cost $14. Without Bonzo (sorry Jason, your are not your dad)and without Plant I can't justify seeing the "New Led Zepplin". Especially if they really jack up the price. Would I turn down a chance to go see Page and JPJ playing in a small 2000 seat venue? Probably not, but I won't be going to see any arena shows......I'll stick with the memories when the band was complete and hitting on all cylinders. But for those of you who are going you'll get to see two of the true legends in Rock and Roll. They may not be Elvis, who wrote the book on Rock and Roll, but they definitely have a chapter in there that is all their own.

Does anyone really thinks Paige needs the money? The guy is not rich. He is ridiculously wealthy! Maybe Jones could use the cash but, I doubt it. If they decide to record and tour it would be a good thing. Although we can all agree it would not be the same without Plant. It shouldn't prevent the other members from making hopefully some great music. Dude it's J.P. and JPJ how could it be bad? I saw the Paige Plant tour and it was awesome.

Saw JPJ with G mule and that was great. Even the reunion was pretty good considering what little time they had rehearse due to JP broken finger. I think that if they do it, I'm pretty sure it will be worth listening to and seeing. Where do I sign up to buy a ticket?

JIMMY PAGE's Manager: 'LED ZEPPELIN Are Over! It's Done'

Despite published reports to the contrary Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham have no plans to record and tour together.

Earlier today (Wednesday, January 7), MusicRadar spoke exclusively with Peter Mensch, Jimmy Page's manager, who stated categorically, "LED ZEPPELIN are over! If you didn't see them in 2007 [when they played a one-off reunion at London's O2 Arena], you missed them. It's done. I can't be any clearer than that."

Reports of ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham jamming with other vocalists first surfaced a few months back, after Robert Plant made it clear he was not interested in doing a LED ZEPPELIN tour anytime soon.

"They tried out a few singers, but no one worked out," Mensch confirmed to MusicRadar. "That was it. The whole thing is completely over now. There are absolutely no plans for them to continue. Zero. Frankly, I wish everybody would stop talking about it."

Mensch's comments to MusicRadar appear to contradict the statements he made in a recent interview with BBC 6 Music where he said that it was logical for Page to carry on. "That's what Jimmy does. That's his job, his hobby," he said.

"People don't really understand it," Mensch explained to BBC 6 Music. "Jimmy Page has been playing guitar professionally since he was 16 years old. Jimmy Page likes being a musician. He doesn't want to be a race car driver or a solicitor.

"So they [Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, Jason Bonham] did the show with Robert Plant; they had a really good time rehearsing, the three of them, before Robert showed up.

"And they decided that if they could find a singer that they thought would fit their bill, whatever their bill was at this stage in their career, that they'd make a record and go on tour."

However, Mensch would not confirm any names — despite a list of rumored vocalists that also includes Steven Tyler from AEROSMITH and Myles Kennedy from ALTER BRIDGE.

"I can't comment on any rumors right now," he told BBC 6 Music. "It's gonna be a long and difficult process. And we're not soliciting people. So don't call me about it!"

Why not instrumental?

Also, John Bonham is the original drummer... not his son Jason. Maybe we all need to accept that the original line-up of Led Zeppelin absolutly cannot tour. So with that being the case, who gives a shit about who sings. If anything, the vocalist will be a treat to hear... Maybe the new guy won't yell "25" all the damn time! haha.

I predict they join with the Grateful gang for a masterful classic rock circle-jerk known as Dead Zeppelin.

I'll probably never ever get it! Why do great bands do this? I can understand wanting to go out and play the music from whats probably the most incredible time in their lives, but their taking the voice away from the music so why call it Zeppelin. Some frontmen are why bands are what they are, and in this case the front man made Zeppelin what it was which was 1 of the best bands ...ever!

If they decide to tour it wouldnt make sense to call the band Led Zeppelin because it wont be and I wouldnt go even if the tickets were free.

I'd rather pay to see them do Zeppelin tunes with no vocals, that i'd pay ffor.
