I really love this article, the best I've ever read on Jambase. I made it to the 12/30 show, but I saw tea leaf green on 12/31 because the 12/31 was sold out. This makes me wish I were there!

woohoo! there's an article on cnn about the tour, not much for content but i thought it was interesting that it was one of the headlines. "legendary band has unfinished music".

fantastic! best part in my opinion is phil played with just jackie and barry. barry is such a great player, tasteful and has a good feel for the tunes. wish he got to play with phil more.

This was a really fun show!

Jackie and Barry jammed well together...

Also it was great that it started early and ended early so I could catch some more music going on in the city, Tea Leaf Green, until 4:30

excellent review, wish i could give more than 5 stars. Nice idea of a local musician actually reviewing another band, you might be on to something here jambase. Brett-I totally agree with the thoughts on wharf rat. The two bands play obviously different readings of that song and it dissolved into total confusion. It took a while to regain the steam they had before the gaffe. A great song, but played too soon after midnight and the energy from the crowd was gone. But otherwise an excellent New Years for me...

What an incredibly historic and epic show and thank you Garrin for writing such an eloquent journey to make me feel like I was right there with you harmonizing with every note from Jackie Green to Booby and Phil! My first Dead show was in '89- Giants Stadium, changed my life forever. I feel so incredibly lucky to now live and perform in the great city where one of my most favorite bands began so many years ago! Thank you for being one of the torch bearers in this fine city, playing such incredibly beautiful music that references and is reminiscent of that era but brings your own unique and fresh for blend of freestyle for all of us lucky folk in San Francisco! I love the Dead! Thanks Garrin! xo, *bernadette*

Both nights were, as they say, historic. The bands were incredible and it was well worth the ticket prices this time. Boys, you've done good and we're all proud of you. We're looking forward to the Shoreline show. As to this article, this has got to be one of the best written, most articulate pieces I've ever read in JamBase. Kudos to the writer & photographer!

Wow, that WAS a great read! What a night for music in San Fran. So many options between the this show, TLG, ALO, Greyboy and Parliament, Primus and Zappa Plays Zappa... I love that fucking city and IT IS the birthplace of a genre...

After going to see "The Dead" NYE 2003 in Oakland I couldn't justify going to this show especially with the dead spring tour looming. Went to see ALO NYE and Tea Leaf Green late night and don't regret it. ALO played some GD tunes over the 12 months Scarlet Begonias (Santa Cruz), Help>Slip>Franklin's (SF) both were sweet. I've seen plenty of Phil & Ratdog shows since 2004 but for those who haven't experienced a Grateful Dead New Years it's pretty cool isn't it!

Dead tour: Love Warren guitar playing just can't stand hearing his voice pierce through the backround vocals like 2004 tour. When he sings lead he's fine but please turn his mic down when not on lead. PLEASE!

June Phish Date Announced (Briefly)

hehe

Earlier today the first show of Phish's rumored summer tour appeared to be confirmed. This morning, the Live Nation site listed a January 30 on sale for a performance by the band on June 18 at the Post-Gazette Pavilion in Burgettstown, PA (the listing was removed a few hours later). This venue is the site of celebrated 7/29/03 show that saw Phish, dip back into its catalog for such songs as "Daniel Saw The Stone," "Camel Walk," "McGrupp" and "Harpua (the show later was released as part of the Live Phish 2003 series). The June 18 performance certainly is compatible with a potential appearance by the band at Bonnaroo over the prior weekend. The full tour may well be announced later this month.

Im gonna go ahead and disagree with the comment about phil not being able to sing, its nothing fantastic but, first time i saw P&F (glenns falls with trey A plus) by the end of the smokin hearin phil sing box of rain still toots my fancy no doubt about it.
