TEN NIGHTS IN MARCH TO CELEBRATE FOUR DECADES OF LIVE MAGIC

The Allman Brothers Band will celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2009 the best way they know how: on stage and on the road. ABB have confirmed they will kick off the year with 10 shows at New York City’s newly-renovated Beacon Theatre, where they’ve played 175 times since 1989. Ticket information will be announced in mid-January. The group will, as usual welcome many special guest musicians during this run. "I'd love to tell you what we have planned," Gregg Allman recently told Billboard, "but it's just kick-ass, that's all I can tell you."

Damn, I was just in NY for MMJ's NYE show (which was killer!) and I don't know if I can swing another trip out there. Here's to hoping my finances allow it.

^^^ Why not? If you're talented enough to make it all worthwhile and mix up setlists and jam with many guests, as ABB definitely is, I'm all for long stands like this. But somewhere cheaper than NYC would be nice. Wanee Rocks!

What's wrong with the pillows comment? If you're gonna be in NY for 12 days, you're gonna want to sleep right? Everyone forgets their pillow on long car rides and it's the worst oversight in the road trip world. So I'll reiterate for Lakai: don't forget your pillows.

i believe bands like the dead and allman bros. and phish, and maybe a few others would be capable of doing 10 shows in a row in the same city....so much material, so many guests, so much GOOD MUSIC!

Imagine being a musician that gets granted permission to play 10 shows in a row, If you even get permission to do that, there's no questioning you deserve it. Would love to go up there but the only problem with these long runs is that if you could only go for one of the shows, it would be really nice to know what day special guests are going to be there...you know?

Interesting, i wonder what sorta renovations the beacon endured?

10 shows is all good with me, however looking at setlists from previous years, they really dont switch up the set all that much, most nights have a lot of the same song.

They dont got the diversity of panic or phish or dead really, in my oppinion

yea it is very sweet but i believe they should have done this around the midwest or somewhere in the middle of the country so that it is a little more fair for everyone who wants to make the trip

That's fine but what about WIDESPREAD PANIC? Yes the ABR band is great but why don't WSP do a 10 show run at the Beacon?? We need that kind HEAT there. New York NEEDS the HEAT of WIDESPREAD PANIC for 10 nights in row. See you at ABB shows 4 & 5 sporting my "John Bell rules" sweatshirt and mullet. ricky

Theses ticket prices are gonna be through the roof and the beacon secruity is the fucking worst but i still am going to have to catch at least one of these shows because I have no doubt they will be "kick-ass".

It would be great to see Dickey sit in. Also, about the same setlist comment, I can understand that some popular songs will be repeated and the setlists may not look diverse on paper (not like a Panic setlist). I recently saw them play 2 nights at Chastain Park in Atlanta. The only song they repeated both nights was Dreams. They were two completely different Dreams where one night Warren ran the song and the next night Derek took the reins. If I saw the Brothers play Dreams every night I would not be disappointed. Oh yeah, hope Dickey shows up.

spitz66,my first Beacon show was ratdog, i forget how many years ago. security was nonexistant. i saw a guy ripping tubes and using a ready whip cracker in his seat. a little over the top for sure but you probably won't catch too much of a hassle. good luck though.

Awesome. You gotta love the Allmans.

Just a warning to the Allman fans... nothing to do with the Beacon shows. But, when the Wannee festival gets announced, DONT GO!! The Wannee Fest is a bad place. You will get arrested. It was not fun. I got the shaft last year with The Allmans cancelling, the tickets were still over priced, and the kicker: I spent a night in jail for smoking a bowl at my camp site. No drugs... just a bowl of weed. I'm on probation now. DONT GO TO THE WANNEE FESTIVAL!

I was at the Wannee last year and I thought it was the greatest time for all peoples. there was a family affair there. greg was ill but i still wanted to support the event. Gov't Mule rocked the ground literally. you camp out for 3 or 4 nights and listen to unbelievable music at the suwannee river outdoor music park. nice people, I never saw or had any trouble with security. there was security at the music venues but not at the camp grounds there was an into the morning jam the night before with everything going on TRUST THAT THIS IS SOME THING YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS IF YOU CAN MAKE IT!!!!

Gov't Mule good at huh? Good thing... for you. I was about to be on my way to that show right before I got popped by some undercovers at my campsite. When i lit that pipe, they literally hopped out of the bushes. I missed Mule cause I was in jail. Along with about 2 dozen other Wannee Festival goers. Fuck Florida, and fuck Wannee.

Hey Sugaree

If you're close, or just like really good weather and beautiful surroundings, oh yea and don't travel with an entourage and make lots of noise. Basically a peaceful person who lays low and enjoys music and nature the WANNEE IS THE CHOICE. Check out UTUBE (girl with fire hula hoop) at the Wannee The Mushroom Stage is in the woods with terraced stadium seating, hammocks hanging everywhere in the upper areas. Oh and you can definately have the best time, meet alot of people and the vendors are great.
