Hmm... I wonder who these VERY SPECIAL GUESTS could be? Perhaps members of a band that would not be doing anything due to the completion of their show in the area that same night?

I don't understand how anyone could not like Kimock. THose Other Ones shows back in 98 were the best stuff I heard since Jerry passed away- and this looks like it is going to be a special show. Any time you have members of Phish sitting in and playing Dead or JGB it is incredable- and you know that there will be some guests

msudtg -- holy shit i'm floored... maybe YOU "tried" listening too hard. if your only basis for that statement is him with mickey, you should stay off all comment boards with kimock until you have the faintest clue of what you are saying. STEVE IS THE REAL DEAL. period. why else would jerry say he was his favorite unknown guitarist? him sitting in with any post dead band is'nt even scraping the surface of what he is really about. steve is the most knowledgeable, diverse, subtle, and all around "musical" guitarist on the scene and if you REALLY have heard him, your statement would make you as nauseated as i am....

Nothing could be sweeter than a late-nite kimock throwdown with melvin. i do wonder who these "VERY special guests" will turn out to be. i'm not getting my hopes up, but Trey and Page have played alongside Kimock in Phil and Phriends... hmmm.... by the way... msudtg-- Please feel to STFU at any time. You obviously have no idea what your talking about. If you had any clue of how much of a moron you make yourself out to be you might stop making yourself look like such a ill-educated dunce. I'm sure you read some rumor from some GD website about kimock and you are just going on your ignorance. Everytime i've ever seen kimock play, he blew the roof off the place. Maybe his style is a little over your head kid. Stick with your john meyer albums and hula hoops. Your preaching to the choir on this one. Your stetement about people only liking drugs make you look look a total douche bag. If you don't like the possibility of seeing a master guitarist like kimock playing with melvin seals and "special guests" then stay the fuck home and STFU! Jambase ain't your toilet so go drop your turds on your mom's hairy rug.

ashmie...are you fucking serious? Kimock sounds nothing like jerry. He totally has his own tone and mastery of the instrument that is nothing like jerry. Jambase blowing kimock? for what two articles announcing his new band and a post phish party? Get a fucking life then get a fucking clue. I've met steve kimock on several occasions and he's for more than just some jerry garcia copycat. He actually took the time to answer questions i had about his rig and equipment when he was onstge tuning up before a FREE SHOW. Thats right he played a free show...for free. Which of your lame ass guitar hero's can you say that about. If you have ever taken the time to see steve you'd know that your breath stinks like the stuff thats coming out of it....SHIT! Like a said to that other A-hole on here talking shot about kimock: GET a fucking clue, stay home in front of your computer jerking off and eating dorritios if your too pansy to make it to this show, and finally(this is important): STFU!!!! that means SHUT THE FUCK UP you poser. Kimock is a true master of the craft and one of the true jedi.

^^^ashmie and msudtg need to hold hands and go see the Steve Kimock Band or check out some KVHW from back in the day. There is a chance you saw a bad show since Kimock often throws himself into the unknown with new musicians/bands/collabs., Everyone can have an off night, especially if jumping without a net into the musical abyss. By the way, Kimock's tone is his own, though it does share similarities with Jerry's. However, Sam Holt from Outformation straight up STOLE Mikey's tone.

I just went to Kimock/Melvin/JGB to ring in the New Year in Denver and it was a blast! Everybody was boogying like crazy as our minds exploded. Which is why I loved going to Phish shows. Personally, I think it's a match made in heaven (though the moe. post-Phish show in Vegas back in the day was pretty sweet too...) One way or another, it's all good! What is a band without a post-show?

Yeah, Turbine is playing Goody's too that night, and it's alot less expensive than $35!. They were SICK on their CO run the last two weeks! There is a chance Ryan, their Harp player, may sit in for a few tunes with Kimock. That would be just downright silly!

i'm just laughing at the folks saying that kimock "stole" jerry's tone. Thats hillarious. Maybe it sounds a little like "jerry's" tone because one of the seven or 8 guitars he plays on is an irwin guitar?

I went a long way to go to a guitar clinic Steve did at red fox for hours last year. It was so sick. He wouldn't stop. They had to pull him off stage to get the show going. Such deep theory and he loved it and went on for hours. I think Humboldt has such a tie to the family scene that they are holding some tix there and the promoter is from there too. This is unmissable. And they haven't even released the other band members. Trey played in Eureka a couple years back too. Humboldt rules.

i must be missing something. I've seen both jerry garcia play and steve kimock. To me they sound NOTHING alike. Both of their playing styles are drastically different. I think people are mistaking the fact that kimock plays an irwin guitar, thus he must be "copying" garcia's style. The guy from DSO, now that is straight up blatantly copying garcia's licks and style. Just listen to any SKB recording. I'm not seeing the kimock stole jerrys sound argument. Yes, they sound somewhat similar, but to say steve just stole garcia's style and licks is just showing that you obviously haven't heard enough of steve to make a rational decision. Tkae for instance when kimock filled in with ratdog. He sounded NOTHING like jerry. He injected his own style into the music and the music was elevated because of it. He's not just a copycat guitarist. If i wanted to see some guy cheesily ripping off garcia, i'll go see DSO. Kimock is well beyond such silliness and his style is nothing like garcia's. Maybe i'm missing something, but after seeing kimock over 20 times i never thought to myself that steve was just copying garcia's licks and style. I'm sure you could say that ANY livi9ng guitarist in the jam band scene copys garcia's style when it comes down to it...but thats just silly.

rizzlesanderson Tue 1/6/2009 11:39AM

so what if kimock sounds like jerry? so your saying you won't go to this show because kimock resembles garcia? That is laughable. Good to see that you've injected stupid bias to your listening choices. Might as well not go to anymore shows because a guitarist might sound a bit like garcia. You remind me of those people who refuse to see any of the living members of the GD sideprojects because "it ain't jerry man".life dosen't just stop because people want to be selfish and stupid. Grow up and expand your horizions. Stop comparing everyone to jerry and you might actually smile sometimes. Why would Garcia call kimock "his favorite new guitarist" if all he did was cop his licks and steal his tone. I think jerry was smarter than that.

$35 FOR KIMOCK IS KINDA STEEP BUT $100+ FOR THE DEAD IS EVEN MORE INSANE!.. i guess we need a musical cleansing of all these old, same old same old bands that have recently really jacked up their ticket prices to match the prices of the pop market....you know for about $20,000 you could catch all of phish tour, greedful dead tour, bonnascrew, wackascrewu, all greed, fagaroundo, and a few others.... heck don't we all make that in a night selling grilled cheese?.... oops no vending unless you pay the Hippy Mafia I forgot.... We as fans should unite and BOYCOTT all our favorite bands until they lower ticket prices... like a fan union... they need us more than we need them... support local cool music... the $5 bar band has been and always will be where it is at!

kimock plays free shows all the time. $35 ain't shit, especially when your seeing a master guitarist like steve. I think steve deserves to make a little loot from playing a show. The guy has to eat too. Ticket prices in general have gone up due to many factors. I do, however, agree about the outrageous base level Dead ticket prices and the even more outrageous phish tickets being sold by the scalper mafia. Boycott the scalpers! I have no problem giving my money to a band to help support them, but i sure as hell won't EVER give that money to a greedy ass scalper just looking to profit from other's misery.
