Bill Kreutzmann
Bill Kreutzmann, Grateful Dead drummer for the band's entire thirty-year career, rings in the New Year in the state he calls home - Hawaii. On December 29 and 31, Kreutzmann is joined on stage in Maui by Austin bluesman Papa Mali, James "Hutch" Hutchinson (bass guitar/Bonnie Raitt), and Matt Hubbard (piano/Willie Nelson) for two very special evenings of music. These New Year's shows launch a busy year ahead for Kreutzmann. First up in 2009, a run of dates with Kreutzmann's trio featuring bassist Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers Band) and guitarist Scott Murawski (Max Creek).

Kreutzmann's Maui New Year's run begins on December 29 at local music spot (and Willie Nelson's favorite hang) Charley's Restaurant, on Maui's North Shore. For New Year's Eve, the celebration moves just east along the Hana Highway to Voyage East in the Pauwela Cannery. For December 31, expect unannounced special guests, Kit Kat Club exotic dancers, and a late night deejay set by P.O.R.T.A.L. Plus, finishing show touches such as venue décor by "A century in review," designs of the decades from Wings Hawaii Girls, and Repast Pupu's by Cloud Nine catering from 10 p.m. to midnight.

Yeah, tickets for your local bar are around $65 for a DJ, 1 glass of champagne and one of those little horns.

Damn...I lived across the street from Charley's in Paia for the last 4 years and just moved. $25 for these guys at Charley's is a deal. It is super small, fun locals place to hang out. If Willie Nelson is not on his own tour he frequently stops by and sits in cuz he lives right down the road. Also, My buddy Joey owns the Voyage East venue and it is Sick!! I saw Kreutzmann drum for the David Nelson Band there before I moved and it is a great converted old warehouse. Its in Haiku, which for those that don't know Maui is the Rainforest, North Shore of the island and a great spot for an off the hook party! Each of these shows is well worth the price of admission.

Billy NYE in Hawaii...I guess that means no "Dead" reunion for NYE in San Francisco just Ratdog & Phil & Friends. Who knows maybe Mickey Hart shows up and they reform the band from Deadheads for Obama #1 at the Warfield last February? That was a fun show just ask Bill Walton.

The Trio are amazing, saw them up front at Toad's Place in Hartford, CT and they rocked the place. They killed it at Vibes this year too, I think they opened with Eyes of the World...they funked out Franklin's Tower they're just unreal. I highly recommend seeing these guys!

Also, I thought the Dead Spring/Summer tour for next year was all set to go? what's with the doubters?

Obviously you didn't get the chance to see The Grateful Dead, none of this stuff even comes close that feeling and some of it is boring. Jerry was the heart and soul behind these tunes.
