MSTRKRFT 2nd Album

"MSTRKRFT's music is sweaty and thick, convincingly urgent and highly sexual - only it's full-on house music" - Alternative Press

"You get the sense that there's no dingy rock 'n' roll club that they can't turn into a sweaty, over-sexed rave." - XLR8R

The long awaited sophomore album from MSTRKRFT will be released on Dim Mak/Downtown Records on March 17, 2009. Fist Of God is the follow up to the Canadian duo's massively successful 2006 debut, The Looks and features contributions from N.O.R.E., Ghostface Killah, Bay Area hip-hop icon E-40, Freeway, Lil' Mo and John Legend. MSTRKRFT's Jesse Keeler and Al-P revisit the raw influences of their early punk roots with a nod to house music from Chicago and Detroit on Fist of God, which pushes boundaries and preconceptions about contemporary dance music.

Here's the duo being interviewed on I Love Techno TV last year, where they trace their influences and style.

And for something more prurient, pop over here for the silly, soft core milk shake plop of the "Easy Love" video.

i've heard about these guys for a while now. i'm not huge fan of house, although i do dig justice and daft, i'm gonna have to get an album or two now. anything you all would like to tell me about before i buy this????

these guys are good but if you like dj duos check out marko nastic/valentino kanzyani or james zabiela/nic fanciulli on live sets. beware of daft punk and justice if you are really into live music because there are rumors that neither actually do anything live and their sets are all pre-made.

Jcolb - wowwwww great post. I figured some of the stuff had to be pre-programmed but that is just ridiculous. granted all musicians are known to take a "night off" but come on...atleast plug in ur f'n MIDI! i must say they do look pretty spun in that pic...

dont dig the straight house stuff but that article jcolb16 posted is great and a statement like "anyone with a shred of understanding of how the music is made knows that it’s near impossible to play electronic music 100% live..." should give all of us a bit more respect for those electronic groups in the scene like STS9, BoomBox, New Mastersounds and others that are doing things right.

^^^^^^^ HA! You wish worm. MSTRKRFT is pretty cool, and they've

got a nice live set, but come on, shits on sts9? HA! And anyone

who knows about these guys knows that JKF is a far better bass

player than he is a squarepusher. Check out Death from Above 1979

if you haven't already. It's JFK killing the bass with some raw

dog nasty ass licks.

These guys are alright... its bound to happen, when a form or type of music gets hot or hyped, many artists come out of the woodwork. Electronic music is what is cool right now, so artists like MSTRKRFT get attention when not neccessarily deserved. I listen to them,i like them, but i have always been and always will be a fan of electronic music. That being said i can name 5 artists who blow these fools out of the water live and are pretty active right now. Chromeo, Justice, STS9, Soulwax and Hot Chip. Until i hear or see another show like the Camp Bisco show i just dont think they can put on a solid show night after night. BLAH BLAH BLAH

mstrkrft is ok. not sure i get the hype. and pattyohallo im not a big fan of the New Mastersounds but if you are you should atleast know the their remixes are straight up electronic, average, but electronic none the less.

for the record...the new mastersounds are not electronica...I've seen them live three times - bass, guitar, old-school keys, and drums...they are a throwback to true funk and r&b (especially now with the occasional female vox). If you haven't seen them, you should.

fancypants...SOME of the remixed new mastersounds tracks are indeed electronica...this is true...however, the word REMIX refers to an artist's or artists' own rendition of another artist's original song...bands such as public enemy and nine inch nails have also had their tracks remixed in an electronic fashion...does this classify them as electronic outfits? sorry, my friend, but it does not

Hey jcolb16 and bigworld before you start spreading lies about Justice you should do your homework. First here is Gaspard's response to the photos:

“I didn’t notice at first, because as you can see I was looking at the computer to launch the next vocal hook and right after I realised that the blue screen went black, so there was no way possible it could work. So I plugged it back in, big deal! And the next thing you know is this picture.”

Next a photo of Gaspard plugging his shit back in.....(from the guy who was taking photos that nite)

Also, go to Justice's myspace site too and check out the justice unplugged/replugged pictures

So basically go crawl back in your hole instead of spreading false lies and rumors.....Beatport can eat shit too (love my jambase)!!!

MSTRKRFT is where it is at!!!! House is where the heart is. Love my boyz.

OK BRA, touchy subject? The thing is, most people could give two shits anyway. People go to see DJs to get crunk and dance there balls off not to watch them crank on some f'n knobs.

I was backstage at Justice in Altamont, NY and watched them do there thang from about 3 feet away, relax i know they are legit. Alls i said was they def take nights off...its not like Eoto or other real bands where every set is improvised and new. Yes i have Across the Universe and YES besides some basic effects and new samples alot of songs are VERY similar to the orignal versions off Cross. Sry to dog your precious electro. Back to my hole.. :)

I was at an EOTO show just outside of jackson where travis's computer went down. Did they stop... hell no! Jason played the SCI'S drums section from a few years back SOLO. He made the rhythms that both he and travis would do at a SCI show solo.... funkin awesome. oh yeah want to hear a killer live duo... try bennion vs the nuts

Saw these guys a few weeks ago & thought they were pretty good.

I love a good dance show once in a while & I dont care if its improved or produced. Although live instruments & percussion is always better.
