Radiohead's Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway to re-join
Neil Finn for new Seven Worlds Collide project

Neil Finn
Radiohead's Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway will once again back Neil Finn for a follow up to the acclaimed Seven Worlds Collide, a project supporting international development organization Oxfam.

Seven years ago O'Brien and Selway were invited by Finn to participate in a special series of concerts in New Zealand under the banner Seven Worlds Collide. Also returning from that original Seven Worlds Collide lineup will be founder of the Smiths and member of Modest Mouse Johnny Marr, Soul Coughing bassist Sebastian Steinberg, songwriter and violinist Lisa Germano, and Liam Finn. Artists newly joining the project include Jeff Tweedy, John Stirrat, Glenn Kotche and Pat Sansone from Wilco, and New Zealand songwriters Bic Runga and Don McGlashan. Behind the mixing desk will be master recording engineer Jim Scott. More names will be added to the lineup in the coming weeks.

The album will be recorded over the next few months in Auckland's Roundhead Studios and is due for release in 2009. Like its predecessor, the project will also see a series of concerts featuring many of the artists included in the lineup. The shows will take place in Auckland early in the New Year. Details will be announced soon.

Worlds Collide
Worlds Collide is a live album released in 2001 by New Zealand singer/songwriter, Neil Finn. This is a live recording culled from a series of five shows from April 2, 2001 to April 6, 2001 featuring Neil Finn & Friends recorded at the St. James theatre in Auckland, New Zealand. Notable guests in Finn's band included Eddie Vedder, Johnny Marr, Ed O'Brien, Tim Finn, Sebastian Steinberg, Phil Selway, Lisa Germano and Betchadupa. The title of this album is derived from the line "Seven worlds will collide / whenever I am by your side" from Crowded House's 1993 single Distant Sun.

Oxfam International
Oxfam is an international development organization working to end poverty and injustice to bring real and lasting change to the lives of people living in poverty and to create a safer, fairer and more sustainable world.

The first Worlds Collide album was excellent! I'd recommend it to all. Glad to hear they're giving it another take.

I'm going to go see a concert where the band knows how to write songs and not just jerk off on the neck of a guitar. There's more to music that shredding (although there's certainly nothing wrong with shredding).

Dear sheebs1,

A lot of the people who check out JamBase come here seeking information about music and bands. It's a sort of community of music lovers on this site that share a love of the something in common. You, on the other hand, seem to be a lonely person with some pent up anger that comes here just to try and start spreading your negative energy around on others. May I recommend that maybe you should be the one who starts masturbating? It may relieve some of that tension you've got building up... By the way, I love WIlco and truly enjoy listening to Radiohead though they are not my favorite... it's that simple.

Wilco is badass. Period. While Panic is good, they are most definitely on their last leg. And saying Wilco doesn't know how to jam is pure ignorance. Listen to some more music sheebs.

I love wilco, if you cant grasp the glory that is wilco...well thats a god damn bummer. Dont criticize what what you cant understand. This sounds like a brilliant concept with some great artists.

This looks very interesting & for a good cause. When this comes out Ill have to thow this in after I jam some Panic.

By the way. Unless youve been in the pit at a Pantera show you have no right to judge what is "pussy music"

6'8", 245 lbs huh? I hear Bill Brasky stands at 7'6" - 365 lbs. Rumor is, he sired every member of Wilco, Radiohead and Widespread Panic.

Radiohead and Wilco. I'll admit, these bands are not for everyone. It takes a certain amount of intelligence (a lot), an open mind and an inspired heart, and respect for folks who know how to write a song that actually means something.

Once again kiddies...this music has words...good ones.

in other words....it's for grown-ups.

Someday you will understand.

I promise.

wow... I never thought I would have to argue that radiohead, wilco or Widespread panic is better than the other. Ummm... well radiohead is catchy and spacy and fun, wilco is the best written, Jeff Tweedy is amazing live!! and Widespread might have a better guitarist in Herring, but nells clyne is amazing. How about they all tour together, that would be awesome!!! All these bands are great at different things, can you really dance to Wilco? Not really, but Widespread keeps fans dancing for more than 3 hours. And to jkuss80, Widespread music is a vast array of difficulties, try playing some sometime. Do you play an insturment? Well, I can tell you that WSP, Wilco and Radiohead all have easy songs to play and more difficult ones, so you cant say that Wilco's music is harder to play, because it doesn't take the endurance that say a 15 minute WSP jam would have. I get tired of fans who dont play an insturment saying how dificult something is, because you dont know. Playing a slower wilco song, on piano or guitar for me, would be easier than a really fast paced song, but I would just have to practice more to get it. Although some of Nells Clyne's stuff is so fast and he moves his fingers in a way that I probably wouldn't be able to ever duplicate, same goes to Herring though. they are both so fast!!

I was only trying to offend people with dumb ass names like phishinpanic.

have a stupid jam name and leave an ass comment on an article that you don't think is jam worthy and I'll do it again.

Oh, and hey KID, I certainly ain't gonna shut the fuck up for your sorry ass.

Oh yeah, why do certain folks get angry when I call them kids...........CAUSE THEY ARE!

You do realize that the folks who invented and run this site are older heads don't you?

It's not my fault so many of you latched on to the jamband scene during it's twilight years.

If I want to remember how much better it used to be before all the backward hat wearing, hip-hop raised, stank eye giving, non respecting rugrats invaded, that's my perogative.

It's also just an opinion.

Don't read my comments if they piss you off so.

What pisses me off is when some wannabe who thinks the only good bands are Phish , Disco Biscuits and Soundtribe feels the need to come to the Wilco/Radiohead story to say how terrible this music is. When you leave a childlish comment like that, I treat you like what you are....a child. But children, you'll all grow up someday, and you musical heads will open and expand and THEN you will understand....I PROMISE

pharmer...i'm 37 years old. i work in corporate america (not because it's great, only because it's necessary to take care of my family). just because i'm sick of your holy-than attitude doesn't mean i'm young; and even i was, who cares? noboby gives a shit. in case you didn't notice, i didn't comment on the bands mentioned in this article or thread (don't presume to know what direction my hat is pointed)..i just pointed out the fact that you're a douchebag. we don't need you to tell us what we will or won't understand. I PROMISE

The Disco Biscuts and Widespread Panic are the two most overrated jam bands ever! Ooops I forgot about Umphree's. Those three bands are proof of how weak the scene is now. (Sigh) Depressing. Pharmer, no more hating on the youth. All they are trying to do is create great lasting memories like we did back in the day. Don't hate because you are a grey bush who is stuck in the past. No one wants to see you at a show and your comments are spiteful as hell. And by the way, the emotion "spite" is a trademark of a child. I think you need to take a long look at yourself in the mirror. Have fun living in a trailor, popping viagra and looking at internet porn. There isnt one person that leaves more wasteful comments on this site. Not even SCIFreak. And that's saying a lot.

I have to agree with DJ. Stop raining on the parades of the young'uns. And don't act like shows were so pure and holy back in the day. It may not have been over run by Hip hoppers per se, but it WAS overrun by typical scensters, stank eye givers, and spoiled rich kids just looking for a place to get high. You probably didn't notice back then for two reasons; one: you were one of those snot nosed kids, two: you were young and naive, and three: you were young and NOT judgemental. That is one of the things I like about the youth, they are so much less judgemental, most likely because the haven't been so jaded about the world yet. It's ok to get out there and be a dumb ass from time to time, sometimes that is what's needed to progress down the path of life. I know I've done and said things (sometimes at shows) that I later regretted; and somehow, I'd be willing to bet that you (pharmer) have also done and said things that make you look like a douche. A truly evolved, mature, adult would have the understanding and tolerance to live and let live, and smile at the silliness of youth that we all go through as part of the human experience. Believe me, I am just as annoyed by you by some glowsticks getting swung in my face, or beer spilled on my feet and clothes, but at the end of the day, it's a party, people are getting wild, and that's what you face when you go out to a show. Unfortunately, when you go out, you are going to run into very few highly enlightened individuals, at least they won't be as enlightened as you. so it may be a good time to work on tolerance, and ditch the 'holier than you' bit.

As for RH and wilco, that's cool; I love it when talented musicians work with other talented musicians in a setting that is new to them.
