Stephen Malkmus & Blitzen Trapper Cover "Funk 49"

Everyone needs a friend who scrapes the web looking for cool stuff; lucky for JamBase we've got a bunch of weirdos who love doing that kinda thing. Big thanks to J over at reapandsow for tippin' us off to this sicktastic cover of the James Gang's "Funk 49" by Stephen Malkmus and Blitzen Trapper. Also a tip of the hat to You Ain't No Picasso where our friend J originally found this vid.

In other Blitzen Trapper news, please do yourself a favor and check this track "Furr" off their new album by the same name. It is without question one of the best songs we've heard all year. We just freakin' love it!

Blitzen Trapper is on tour now, dates available here.

That's Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks with the guys from Blitzen Trapper on guitars and shakers. Joanna Bolme and Janet Weiss are the sexiest rhythm section out there:)

Nice tune. Very Dylanesque.

I agree Flat5. Sounds a lot like Simon and Grafunkel, but not in a derivative way. These guys play all the tim in Portland, and I have to say I haven't been super impressed. Maybe because I've seen them open for Malkmus, who will blow just about anyone out of the water, as well as seeing Fleet Foxes, who is an extremely tough act to follow, open for them. I have heard lots of good things about his new album though. This song makes me want to pick it up.

God, S.M. is my hero. He would have never played this a year ago without Janet in the band. She's loosened him up even more with her thunder-pounding.

This track reminds me of Friend of the Devil by GD. The song does kind of put me to sleep, but the lyrics are excellent with lots of detail and the words seem to paint a very colorful picture. Song of the Year is my vote.
