GIVE PEACE A DANCE | EARTHDANCE 2001

The Earthdance festival began as a vision to unify the world in support of peace. The idea revolves around a synchronized dance party that spans the globe, covering over 100 cities and 45 countries. In Northern California, The event will take place on 150 acres of sacred ground on the Ya-Ka-Ama Native American Reservation located 90 minutes North of San Francisco in Santa Rosa on the weekend of October 12th, 13th, and 14th. All proceeds from the event will be donated to affiliated charities such as the Tadra Project Children’s Village in Tibet, and the Global Exchange Human Rights Organization to name a couple.

Founder Chris Deckker got the idea for the global dance project while in the King’s Chamber of the Giza pyramid in Egypt. He took this idea back to England where his roots were well established in the electronic trance community of London. Deckker’s goal has always been to link spirituality with dance music, but now he has begun to make the logical progression into other areas of sound. Perhaps Deckker put it best when he said, “Dancing is an ancient expression-it doesn’t matter whether it’s done to computers or drums.” This idea takes form in the variety of musicians found this year ranging from Mickey Hart leading the largest drum circle for peace ever, to an eclectic bunch of disc jockeys, to the spiritual beats of Sound Tribe Sector 9.

The climax of the weekend will occur on Saturday at 4pm (PST) when every Earthdance DJ across the world will link up and spin the exact same track, "The Prayer For Peace" at the exact same time. So whether you’re in England, Australia, San Francisco, or Asia we will all be united in a simultaneous shake down for peace.
