Wanted to sign, but didn't want to create Paypal account to donate.

And who got all the tickets Saturday? Did anyone make it through the phone lines, or make it through TM-online before they were sold out? Wish I could be there badly, but no way am I buying off Ebay.

I am curious. Why does Phish Management feel the need to include all that threatening language when you are applying to get tickets through the lottery about "anyone caught selling tickets at above face value will have the tickets confiscated."? Blah, blah, blah. At 10:01 I saw ticket brokers selling tickets for $701. I am siked about the band getting back together, but they had an opportunity to set a new precedent for ticket purchasing, ordering, etc. outside of the parameters of Ticketmaster and they blew it. Capitalist pigs= Phish management.

actually, i'm pretty sure ticketsnnow.com is people who scored tickets and are now scalping them through the web site. that's why there are a variety of prices on ticketsnow; it's the same as stubhub.com.

Yeah...what the fuck is up with ticketsnow.com? I get denied by Phish/Musictoday and then denied again by ticketmaster.com but I get a banner ad for ticketsnow.com on the rejection page? WTF?!!! I am so incredibly pissed off right now.

I tried to find a way to sell tickets (not that I have any but just out of curiosity) through ticketsnow.com but I don't think it's like stubhub. I think that they just scalp for profit.

^^ TCoB, agreed. I got into phish summer of 2004, about a month before coventry, and they quickly became my favorite band. Phish reuniting is literally the best news I have heard in the past 4 years.

I'm just really disappointed at how poorly the ticket situation was handled. After my ticket request being denied and getting shut out on ticketmaster, I, like so many other fans, am ticketless. If it were simply a matter of other fans getting the tickets which I did not, that would be a different story. But the fact that I will not be going to Hampton in part because of scum-bag, dirty motherfucking scalpers makes me pissed beyond words.

Point is, Phish & management, there's a much better way to do this. Maybe mail-order, which I've heard was an effective method back in the day, or maybe something new. I don't know, it's not my job to figure it out. I just feel that if the band really cared about the fans, they'd find a way.

Ticketmaster owns TicketsNow. Basically you get shut out of a ticket and then they direct you to a broker, OR this is the best of all, Ticketmaster sells tickets directly through TicketsNow "*Please note that on occasion tickets may be placed for sale on TicketsNow by Ticketmaster, for example when a transaction on Ticketmaster's TicketExchange is subsequently cancelled and Ticketmaster resells the ticket to mitigate a loss it has incurred." 2 things. 1 is that there is only like 13,000 tickets about about 5-6 million people going for them. I was lucky and was able to get mine.

2. This ticket problem with pro scalpers is out of the bands hand for right now. However Chris Rock has a major case against Ticketmaster right now working its way through the courts and most likely will go to the supreme court since by them reselling at higher costs and not giving any of the difference to the band breaks their contract. Problem is you can't play any venue of size with out dealing with tickbastered, as pearl jam learned back in the '90s. Word and see you in the lott..

Here's the real problem though... Ticketmaster has contracts with almost every major concert venue in the country. This means that Phish cannot play most venues without allowing ticketmaster to sell the majority of the tickets. Remember when String Cheese sued them a few years ago? That was for this very reason. SCI wanted to be able to sell more of their own tickets via SCI Ticketing (good for the fans), but ticketmaster would not let them. The entire industry of concert venues is in cahoots with ticketmaster. Personally, I try to buy tickets at the venue when possible, because I hate supporting this evil machine, but that was definitely not an option for me since I am on the west coast.

I didnt get my tics thru the lottery, & didnt even try to go thru Ticketbastard so I would not be dissapointed twice. Someone please bring competition to Ticketmaster. More bands need to get together & put a stop to this terrrible system. Guys...Please Bring a 3 night run to Soldier Field!

This petition is an awesome idea though. Kudos to whoever started this. Jambands.com is also publishing this article and providing a link to sign it as well. I would definitely pay to see this in a movie theater like the Brooklyn show back in '04. I'm not so big on the online streaming though. That usually looks like shit and it's so much more fun when there is a lot of other people to party with. The movie theater I saw it at even let us have ins & outs so we could go "refresh" ourselves in the parking lot. Good times.

You guys will hate this, but here's another fan's perspective.

If you didn't get tickets, stop crying and worrying. The lessons to be learned from hanging with a "free" group of people go far beyond being able to watch a webcast or a show at the movie theater. You can get the setlists and think wow, that would've been cool but it's just a show and one that is no different than any other return-from-hiatus show. The only difference is that many of you may have gotten your first taste at Coventry and Hampton just isn't that big. If you can't make the show, just be patient because the band will make it around again. In the meantime, tune in, turn on and drop out because that's what the music is all about anyway. Freedom. Don't bitch to the guys at work because they don't understand. That's what makes you a set of eyes in the world.

Well SaltyDog Hampton is kinda of a special venue for Phish, so I can see why they would want to play there. I"m down with the petition.

if noone buys tickets from a scalper/ticketdealer at ridiculously inflated prices, then the concert will be empty and that just might make the necessary statement that we need to find another way to sale tickets responsibly in this country. Don't buy from brokers/scalpers, they use speeddialers to outofstate ticketmaster offices to quickly snatch up all the tickets. If you were calling or trying to get tickets online you had no chance and maybe four to five people standing at ticketmaster lines actually got tickets before the asshole brokers got them. REFUSE TO BUY FROM BROKERS! let all the rich dicks buy them up and then look around inside the show and think, wow, this ain't as fun without the kids here.

Ticketmaster clearly enables scalpers and even profits off of them. That artificially raises the price by increasing the demand. Obviously if people are willing to pay $700 for a ticket that is say like $40, then there is some room to increase the price. So increase it and use the extra money to prevent scalping (will call, ID check, something) and give any other increased profit back to the band. I personally wont give some fat fuck who lives on the other side of the country money via ebay for clicking and typing faster than I can from being so fucking fat. This is not Phish's fault. There are no venues big enough that aren't pwned by ticketfarter. Just refuse to pay a scalper until they lower it to something at least reasonable. Kudos to whomever started this petition!

People like me... classic. I totally understand why they'd want to reunite there. Your "boys" could have just alleviated a lot of this by making it a bit more realistic for everyone to be a part of it. It was just my opinion buddy.

Yeah people buying these overpriced tickets are only making the tickets more expensive. I would rather see 10 shows when they come back then one show. Scalping is going to happen no matter what I actually got lucky and scored tickets for all three nights through ticketmaster. If I had not scored any I would just wait for the tour

Phish needs to take a page from Tom Waits past tour. Tom sold his tickets, like the one I got in Knoxville, directly to fans. Your tickets were waiting for you at will call and you had to show ID and Credit card/debit card. No hassling with ticketbrokers buying up the tickets before the fans got hold of them. The Waits shows through ticketmaster were paperless tickets. You swiped your Credit card and shown ID and you were in.

He did this very similarly in Louisville 2006 too.

A lot of you folks (judging by your comments) are a large part of why the Phish scene wasn't working anymore. I remember days when tickets were lying on the ground and you just walked right in. Now everybody wants to know what it was like. Sorry, you can't!

Although I do see the intent behind that 2nd petition, PhhelinPhunky, I would not sign it. Why should the phans that aren't scalping their ticketmaster-bought tickets be punished? Furthermore Phish is under contractual obligation with the venue (Hampton Coliseum) to sell a portion of their tickets through Ticketbastard. Sad but true.

If you think about the logistics of getting 13,800 fans through the doors after they show an ID you have to realize that they are not going to have the staffing to make that take less thatn a few hours. Nobody wants that type of security when it will cause them to be waiting in line outside while the band is playing. I got tickets because I somehow lucked out on ticketmaster online but I do hope that they simulcast this to keep the ticketless from causing problems for the venue and the city. We do not need another situation like Red Rocks where they don't want the band to come back again.

I'm not going to sign, because I dont want to tell them what to do. They are reuniting for the fans, the last thing we need to do is start demanding more. Let them go at their own pace, you know?

That being said...Ticketmaster REALLY needs to get their act together. People are forced to rely on them for tickets, and the people who really want/need those tickets are the ones who get fucked. Like me.

Imagine you go into the convenience store Quik Trip to buy a $1 Pepsi and the guy tells you they're sold out, but you can buy one from QT's sister company "Fast Trip", which is next door, for $10. Now imagine that is the only place in town to buy a Pepsi. How the fuck is that any different than what Ticketmaster is doing with this shell company "Tickets Now"??? Ticketmaster controls the ticket inventory, so they can sell a large part of those tickets to themselves essentially, then jack up prices to scalper prices and get paid on both the initial and aftermarket!! I always knew Ticketmaster was as shady as they come, almost all monopolies are, but this is a new level of corporate greed and abuse. I'm writing a letter to my state's attorney general, because this HAS to be a violation of several state and federal laws.

On another note, I think the ticket lottery program should be set-up and your place in "line" should be determined by when you joined the Phish newsletter, Doniac. Reward the older fans who have the supported the band the most, and don't give priority to some 15 who just wants to tell their buddy they got fucked up at a Phish show. Obviously I'm sterotyping a bit, but why not give the OG heads a better shot at special shows like this? Reward loyalty first, then let the newbies get a shot at what's left over.

rnawayjim i understand your sentiments, but unfortunately I don't live at the same address, or use the same email address I was using when I originally signed up for the Schvice. I'm sure there are many old school heads that would fall into the same situation. So, I like your thought, but unfortunately, I think the only way to give everyone a chance to see this show and all future phish shows is to simulcast all of them for a nominal charge. Personally, I would have no problem paying $5-10 per webcast to watch the shows from home. I love Phish, but there are many aspects of the scene that I have outgrown.

I really would not worry about these shows being simulcasted in some sort of fashion or another. Look where technology is going. Instead of just playing music on our ipods, we're using our ipods to watch movies, television shows, music videos, play games, etc. Phish is already aware of this, hence why there is livephish video for sale. I really hope that they do broadcast these shows live though. I don't mind being able to pay for the videos a few days after the shows occur, but it's much more gratifying seeing how the shows play out live, then having to constantly refresh for song updates.

Pay-Per-View. Its an easy fix, $14.99 per household per night and the profits go to charity. That sounds like the best answer to all of it. It will bring friends together and not cause a riot at the gates when thousands of intoxicated drunks don't get in.

Ghost Pants, it worked for the Waits tour. There were different lines, A-G, H-P, Q-Z. It was relatively painless. The only thing that was different was 3,000 seat theaters. Not 13,000. And also Waits didn't start the show until EVERYONE got inside.

The main reason why Tom Waits went this route was so that you wouldn't buy them off EBAY or a scalper. And guess what, it worked.

The problem is this lame Lottery system. Back in the day, before corporate PHISH, as long as your Mail Order was postmarked with the correct date, you were pretty much guaranteed tickets, the only worry was lawn or pavilion seats.

What burns my A** is the fact that some kid who likes PHISH because of Trey Band or has only seen a handful of shows probably got all 3 nights. Those of us who have been with this band since the early 90's, driving endless hours and waiting in 18 hour traffic won't get to see this!! We should've gotten grandfathered in to the lottery. Hope you Newbs have fun.

I went to a simulcast of the Brooklyn show at a theater near me and it was f-ing awesome! Everyone was drinking, smoking and dancing in their seats. I felt like I was at the damn show! If you can't be there in person (which 90% can't), this is def second best. Third place would be a cybercast, but it can't hold a candle to the big screen. Up next...IMAX PHISH! Ha.

Owh and what ever happened to the old fashioned...waiting in line over night with friend and the homeless to get tickets in the morning...man...if you think about it some of you (probably most of you) never ever had the chance to wait overnight in some scummy upstate, wornout city for the opportunity to get tickets...kinda seems silly I argued with my parents for years to let me wait outside or drive to Burlington to get my mail order requset in on time in B-town...man those were the days...

I understand everyone has some beef and I don't blame anyone. Its a shame that we(phans there for the MUSIC) get shutout because of these people who can type faster or have a better internet connection than us get the tix and don't even realize what they are going to experience, and probably won't realize it when its over because they wont remember it! I agree there should be some kind of seniority put into place so the real phans can see the band band they helped to create. Sux for the newbies (i understand because I was one at one time) but then its the responsibility of us to spread it to the new generation by getting our siblings tix and make sure they are there for the right reasons. Its a really bad situation as we all know, and I dont "blame" the band or their management, but both do have enough influence to make a change if they so choose. Its obviously not easy (see Pearl jam tour etc.) and why most bands dont do it. I know its cliche, but the bottomline is until we stand together and refuse to go to shows handled in this way, it will continue to get worse. The simulcast is a great option, and I appreciate the thought and am supportitive of it, but its not a solution.

Welcoe to TOGS (touch of grey syndrome) the hiatus only made the legend grow. It brought down the good ole grateful dead and it could bring down Phish. The scenes will be 2x as big and tickets will always be tough to come by, the bastards at TM and brokers will make a killing and people will pay (there are now plenty of wealthy heads out there) Hell if I were a millionare I sure as hell would, why not? The complaints are already flying, requests for simulcasts. Money and greed killed rock & roll and I sure hope it doesn't kill Phish. They will never be a heavy touring band anymore, that might be the only thing that saves them..

Great idea I already signed it. As a VA native I know the area of VA beach has enough problems. Even though I'm all about a festive parking lot Its just not feasible to have another repeat of Coventry. I just hope this goes through! I'm also anxiously waiting them to post the '09 dates!

Ticketmaster is just some organization that has become an entity to which box offices that were normally controlled by the venue have outsourced their burden to this corporation. This process helps the venue by allowing the burden of responsibility to shift to ticketmaster and they do not have to answer for the actions of ticketmaster. Just this institution of greed really angers me, I really want a simulcast or some sort of webcast, but at the same time i wish there was none so that the Hampton Collesium gets romped with ticketless people and some sort of riot erupts. I know this sounds bad, but i think that it was irresponsible of phish knowing the demand of this particular concert to play in such a small space, it is definitely not the populist Phish that i remember them being, now with tickets so hard to find it raises the price of tickets that everyone knew was going to be scalped, this is just a horrible situation

As an old school Jimmy Buffett fan who has been dealing with this same sh*t for years with his shows (note that all Buffett shows are sold out in a matter of seconds due to the older crowd). One can take a lesson from the way he makes money from his music.....

Start a local fan club system. These groups get 1st crack at tickets because they GIVE BACK to the community. You pick the charity and send Phish management the updates of all the good you are doing. That earns you the ability to get 1st crack at his shows (not to mention all the tickets for the clubs are in the front/best sections).

Ticketmaster kills venues because they take the ability to control how the after market tickts are sold. And the TicketNow tidbit about who owns them scares me a bit and a letter to states Attorny General would be the best to get our $$ back.

This whole headline is silly. It is not Phish's fault ticketmaster is an evil corporation. They kept the tickets for themselves so they could try and rape the more prosperous phish fans. most of us would or will pony up the extra cash if we can find a way to pay, if its the best we will get.

But this whole topic of simulcast petition is crazy. The last thing Phans should be doing right now is trying to tell the band what to do. That was half the problem back in the day.

I want the band to concentrate on music, not what me and you think would be best.

Ticketmaster has been running this bull spit for too long. Phish could play anywhere they want and sell every ticket exclusively through mail order. BE the counter culture and do everything out side the box, not b/c its a pain in the ass, but do it on principal. Phish should prosecute. They said they would void all ticket sales that were sold illegally. I hope they do, and screw the scalpers and the retards paying $3000.00 for a $300.00 weekend. The people that pay, are the ones that ruin a good time out with friends and family.

By the way not only did ticketmaster most likely hold back tickets for themselves but even if they didn't they take 15% !!! of the scalpers price, so that's $150 for those a-holes selling them for $1000, i mean they make a killing off of this, and this is a direct violation of the terms that phish set up for their ticket sale (or was that only for the lottery) this is just so scandalous i can't believe this bullshit, a group which is the reason for the tickets in the first place should be able to negotiate on a date by date basis what the stipulations relevant to the ticket should be

I went to the simlucast of their "last" show in a movie theater and it was bad ass. The movie theater had no idea what they were getting into. There was peeps in the lots(of a movie theater outside a mall mind you) hours before the show doing the normal lot thing. Inside the theater was insane...normal people in the lobby staring...glowsticks, smoking, peeps dancing and running around, that tweeked out guy hiding in the corner. It was a blast, not as good as being there live im sure but I'd be willing to do it again.

discoham.....I love when that happens....went to a SCI show in '04 at the uic pavillion...Man they had no clue...it was great the place was foggy to say the least and security was students at the college who were very overwhemed buy it all.....great times

If they changed the wording to "webcast" I would sign, but I know that no theatre aroudn me would show a Phish concert, so I'm not signing. Like I say...change it to webcast, and I'll do what I can to help with teh cause, but this type of thing just creates more exlusivity issues and people getting shut out again, and it doesn't at all get to the root of the problem.

If you could heal the symptoms but not affect the cause...

ONE SUNDAY TO TRADE FOR SATURDAY OR FRIDAY...

First of all, there are not enough tickets (read: room in venue) for everyone that wants to go, whether Phish, Ticket Master or The Coliseum sells the tickets. Even if Phish had done an old school mail order (anyone remember the very first where you had to have the original non-reproduced form from the Schvice w/ your personal code number) people would still get shut out.

Although it sounds like a good idea to older fans to have a ranking system based on when you started going to shows, this is not what Phish is about. No one is better than anyone else in the crowd... even if they have seen a Gamehenge set 5 times or were at Ian's Farm. We are individuals that have come together to form something special, the Phish audience. You are just as integral part of the audience if it is your first show or your 300th as long as you are sharing your positive energy.

As far as Ticket Master, they will always be the devil. The additional fees for a 3 day pass were over $42 per ticket. That's more than 30% of the ticket price. The "convenience fee" alone was $24. You would think that they would rename that fee after all these years.

Ticket Brokers, Scalpers, Ticket Now, etc. are a big part of the problem. It all stems down to the lack of regulation (heard this anywhere before?). These companies are allowed to sell tickets for whatever they want at whatever profit. They get their tickets in legal and illegal ways including back-room deals. Granted the demand is high and there will always be people willing to pay more than face value for a ticket but it has gotten out of control. The amount of tickets controlled by brokers is a lot higher now than it was 10-20 years ago. Tickets Now was formed as a reaction to brokers and stub hub. Not that I agree, but I'm sure that TM wondered why they should watch other people make money by charging more so they started Tickets Now. Something has to be done but it is bigger than the bands and the venues.

To those of you that think Phish should be playing in a larger venue, that would be nice but that's not in their best interest. By playing a smaller venue, they are increasing demand. This helps their image and their bottom line. It should also provide for a more successful (read: $) Summer tour even in these tight economic times.

Smashy-- For the record, I don't live on the west coast but next time you go to Red Rocks, like I did for Mule last month, find some heads and tell them you like Phish and were at Red Rocks in '96. They don't care if you were in the show or in Morrison that 4 days. The bottom line is that West coasters think of the majority of Phish fans as people that would gladly shell 300-500 bucks a pop to hear a concert and this thread, for the most part, supports that theory.

Beware of Lack of Direction in Hampton. Don't succumb to wookieness.

I am thinking that some formal announcement or statement will be made about this complete madness from Phish regarding how things will be handled with the reselling of tickets and a way to make sure these shows are accessible to the PHANS! Not that signing a Petition wouldn't work but I think they have a good clue on what is really going on and how people are upset about not getting to go.

They should of reunited with a festival so everybody could come, then Hampton shows. Its a shame what happened again...Simulcast may sell out too...Ha!

They will just open more theaters if the simulcast sells out. That's what happened last time for the Keyspan park simulcasts (at least in San Diego). The movie theater was even giving away free tickets to people that didnt have them.

For all that are seemingly BLAMING Phish for this "fiasco" need to check themselves. I am sure this is what Phish hates the most.... demands/expectations/senses of self entitlement. Ticketmaster has always sucked, and playing in a field to 100,000 might get too out of control....they need to ease into this....what better place than the mothership. I acted as my own "'lil scalper" having as many friends/family as possible get mail order (I totally lucked out) and was still on a T1 line @ 7am trying to get tickets for friends (somewhat greedy, huh?). Of course I would be doing this to "profit" by having my friends in the show. mfgoof, there are plenty of west coasters paying big $$$ to get in, because it means THE WORLD to them.....smashysmashy, well done....west coasters being lame for the Dead and Obama supporters. How much energy do you spend in a day trying to convince people that McCain and Obama are equally evil?? I am curious. If it is a substantial amount of time, I would consider writing you in for President.

I remember getting pissed when my girlfriend payed 45 dollars a ticket at a Dead Show In 95. The show was starting and I knew i could get tickets for 20-25 each.

It blows my mind people pay so much for the tickets. Phish is alright and ill go to some shows and maybe even go in. I would never pay more than, maybe 20 over face.

Just don't pay these lame prices and things will work themselves out. Of course there is alot of people with money who don't know the value of anything and will go into debt for the illusion of PHISH.

HERE'S AN IDEA! Why not just make a lot, or all, of the tickets WILL CALL only. Or have some plan something a long those lines where you have to actually be at the Venue to get your ticket. Everyone needs to chill out. Go to wikipedia, look up Loring Airforce Base, go to post base usage, read and relax. It states that Phish is planing a festival there to close out their 2009 summer tour, they are just hammering out the details and figuring out a name. I didn't even bother with TicketBastard when i found this out, i've been to enough shows and been shut out of enough shows to cry over spilt milk. Hampton is awesome but small this was foreseen. IT was my first Post-Hiatus show and it's looking like Loring will once again be home to my come-back. Just my 2-cents, look and read for yourselves. peace

My guess is that phish scheduled these initial dates to prove their selling strength, and that they'll use their success as leverage to negotiate better terms for themselves on the subsequent full tour. The unfortunate reality is that these tickets are worth more than $49. I'd rather see a higher face value price and know that the money is ending up with the band and not a scalper/agency. I don't know the answer - airline-style named tickets, tiered pricing a-la U2/Rolling Stones, fan club preferential distribution - but I will say that for all the brainpower than I understand is behind the phish organization, that this outcome is disappointing.

As one of the masses who was denied tickets, it is totally infuriating to see all the scalper websites with hundreds if not thousands of tickets. It is infuriating to have a true "old school" fan on cragislist today try to sell me tickets to the Sunday show for 400$ a piece. He could only go friday and saturday and wanted to fund his vacation. But the truth is even if all the tickets were sold through phish I and rest of you would still not get tickets.

Ticketmaster has decided to get into the scalping business on a large scale. Tickets were sold through Ticketnow.com BEFORE 10:00 Saturday morning, I know people who purchased them for $260 and have receipts to prove this. I have also talked to over 20 people, NONE of whom were able to get tickets through Ticketmaster. This is interesting, as I personally know 5 people who managed to get tickets through the LIMITED LOTTERY. We all know that Ticketmaster even had a link to Ticketsnow.com when you got to the page that told you that there were "none available." "Corporate greed" doesn't even begin to describe this, it is certainly un-ethical and possibly illegal. I grew up in Hampton, caught phish there in '95 for the first time, and have never missed them there since. Unfortunately I don't have the time or money to take on Ticketbastard, but if anyone else would like to-I've got your back & will help however possible. Please pass this on, I would like to see it get all the media attention that fraudulent activity deserves (how about a story please, webmaster). Thank you.

Why does Phish Management feel the need to include all that threatening language when you are applying to get tickets through the lottery about "anyone caught selling tickets at above face value will have the tickets confiscated."? Blah, blah, blah. At 10:01 I saw ticket brokers selling tickets for $701. I am siked about the band getting back together, but they had an opportunity to set a new precedent for ticket purchasing, ordering, etc. outside of the parameters of Ticketmaster and they blew it. I agree, however I would imagine that Phish had to scale down significantly when they called it quits, and probably don't have very good management, as you mentioned. However, if they're really going to do this they should sell tickets in house. Although it is taking on a huge responsibilty I am certain they will still do alright, especially by taking out the middle man. You're right about the scalpers @ 10:01- but it was TICKETMASTER who were scalping themselves.

I remember when these guys played Barre in November of 91. My senior year in High School how cool it was and now look at what people have turned this into. There used to be alot of genuinely cool people at their shows, now its only the self proclaimed "COOL GUYs and GALs" most of the good people were run off by the newbie crowd of Oxycontin users and theives that plagued the once reasonable scene. WHO CARES IF YOU HAVE SEEN THE BAND 100 times and if you did not get tix to the comeback WHO PHUCKIN CARES.

I was lucky enough to get tickets, but it sucks that none of my friends did. While the shows are going to be special, I would love to be able to share the moment with my friends. I just don't understand how the brokers get away with buying so many tickets and selling them at such a high price. Isn't that illegal? I will sign you petition, but I think we need to find away to fight against the ticket brokers. Any lawyers out there?

I'm already bummed about not getting tickets through either the lottery or ticketbastards, but now Im just bummed that people are letting this get to them that much. Some got lucky and some didnt. It's simple economics, supply and demand.... the scalpers can command that much money because people are willing to spend it. If people quit buying from scalpers this wouldn't be a problem, so do your part and refuse to purchase ticket from these people no matter how bad you want them. I know it sucks and I would love to be there too, but I can't justify condoning such behavior.

georgehf has a good point (scroll a ways up the page). The big problem here is in the laws that govern scalping. Technically, you can charge whatever you want for tickets, as long as you are not on the venue property. It is unfortunate that so many people will not be able to attend, but don't worry, there will be more shows. Phish isn't trying to slight anybody, but doing just the opposite by getting back together. See you all on Summer tour.

This all is total BS if ticketmaster is making even more money off the tickets than is in there contract. Phish could have been creative and played at venues that were non conventional, and even play to more people, but they chose to pick a sentimental venue. Just like many of you I got shut out! Am I pissed? Yea! At who? Im not sure! For right now I'm just happy the boys are back! Just don't buy from scalpers! Dead Head were really good about it! If a scalper would try to sell them a ticket for over face value, they end up sitting on tons of tickets (pure lost profits). I remember getting a ticket for vegas 94 for like ten box because this guy could not get rid of them I got to see the last song of the first set and the 2nd. Phuckn_A seems like the only one who has any sense left in them after this weekend. People! Please dont equate Phish management with capitalist pigs! It seems like once again a contigent of empathy deficient fans is starting to bubble up. If you think you might be one of these people please just leave phish alone. I for one would like to sign the petition because I would love to see the shows but I dont like the words I would be inserting into my mouth. Shutout is unavoidable, Hampton isn't even that big as I understand, relatively, considering other coliseums and arenas. I agree largely though with the frustration with ticketmaster and their nefarious ways of turning obscene profit. But I think it is going to far to paint phish management in bed with them. It's not an easy thing to go around them, remember Pearl Jams efforts with this? Phish is coming back, their entire operation is significantly smaller than it was before breakup and they have to work with what is possible. Finally does anyone consider how adding this extra dimension to the shows might put significantly more pressure on Phish, not to mention the extra cost and negotiations?? We just jump and demand things sometimes. Ask, don't demand or guilt trip. I want to see the show too but if it strains phish too much then I'm resigned to just hear it later. At least in this day and age of trading recordings and entire tour downloads we get to hear it right? Think of all the shows music fans have been shut out of through the decades that weren't and aren't recorded and released after.

I don't see anything "demanding" about this petition. It is actually written in a respectful and polite fashion and brings up a very good point - It would be very bad if a bunch of ticketless wookies descended upon Hampton, VA and caused problems. Phish has done these simulcasts before (e.g. Brooklyn, NY & Coventry) so I don't really see it being too difficult to pull off. Not to mention the fact that they will make a lot of $ in the process. Seems like a win-win situation for all parties involved.

i've seen phish for free before. I also remember the days of mail order tickets, a system that no matter how flawed, actually worked. The decision to play one of the smallest venues in the country for one of the biggest reunions on the planet was just not well thought out or planned. Phish ended with a big disappointment for me and thousands of others when we were denied entry to coventry. Still got my unused ticket framed above my toilet for the day i break the glass and flush it away. Why not start out again with just as big of a disappointment? seems like its gonna be that way for another thousands of people who have waited patiently for this opportunity. Way to give the finger to us! So to reiterate my earlier point, you are fucking stupid if you buy those overpriced tickets, but i realize that there are snot nose punks who get everything they want no matter how much $$$$ it costs them. I hope they open up with Punch you in the Eye. It would be a very fitting song to open up their comeback show on friday with. Because quite frankly I feel like we are all getting punched in the eye over this ridiculous non-sense, get over it. 95% of us didn't recieve shit and yeah its even shittier for the heads who have supported this band since the early 90's all the way to coventry, but we have to realize that this reunion show is where it is and is mainly at a venue that only holds 14,000 people for a reason. Its called "Hype". I personally feel we all deserve these shows to be simulcasted though. Money ruins all the fun btw, never let money interfere with relationships with anything.

A few thoughts:

1) It really sucks that they don't do box office sales. I live 30 minutes from hampton, so what's the chance of any of these Summer Tour '09 shows coming close to me? Slim to none, because of the hampton hoopla. How about allowing box office sales to people with local zip codes on their ID for 2 hours before the TM tix go on sale? 1 ticket per show for each local ID would prevent a lot of scaplers access....how many of them are going to pay their homeboys to sleep in a parking lot if they can each only get 3 tickets total? Probably not worth their fees.

2) Now that I'm a full fledged grown-up with a job, and understand the system a little better, I realize they MY tax dollars have paid for the renovations to the parking lot, the upkeep on the Hampton Coliseum, etc. Really absurd that locals have no access to these tix. I know of at least 50 people around here that didn't get tickets, a not a single one that did through either lottery OR TM. They could even have given lottery priority to billing addresses within certain zip codes.

3) Since they no longer have a huge staff, how about they have their mail order handled by GDTS-TOO? Keep it in the phamily a little, and also gives priority to people who can lay out the cash up front and get it in an envelope with their 3x5 card on the designated day. Saves them the impersonality of Tickets Now and supports an organization that's closer to us and needs our support.

chill out folks. these are warm up shows. why would they want their 1st show to be in front of 80,000 people? so everybody could bitch like they did after coventry? i know that these bands aren't similar but when the smashing pumpkins got back together they did their warm up shows at places that hold 1000 people. they have a tour coming. when they hadn't played together for a long time and started back up at msg, the show was horrible, and they knew it. do you think trey likes stopping YEM during the middle of the song because it sucks so bad. that is pretty embarassing. its a fucking band. you guys are signing petitions and shit, give me a break.

It’s really unfortunate that any of these things were not anticipated by the powers that be. The fact alone that things were able to transpire as I'm sure a great many of us could have foreseen does not make us omniscient but it does mean that someone somewhere knew about the intangibles like, scalpers having their greedy hands in this, not being able to get tickets, the fact that while the simulcast thing is a completely legitimate and fair accommodation, to some degree they had to wait to see how tickets sales would go. Well anyone who has followed the scene could have told you this would happen. My problem is why didn't anyone step in and do something different. I am a 16 year fan of phish and regardless of seeing them live as many times as I would have liked, I still listen to music and I'm filled up by the original message, which has changed it seems based on the things that have transpired. You have to take care of your fans. They take care of you on some level. Leaving these things up to Management Company to avoid the headache would be serious laps in judgment in my opinion. I'm still hopeful I will get to see them either in a theatre or this summer.

Ticketmaster sucks almost as bad as the last Phil-Terrapin I saw. As far as all the whiners...don't waste your time at Scampton. Cops there dislike smelly hippies who try to be not-so-smelly. I'd like to extend an apology to the "Newbs", sorry if I chapped your A**. When Phish came back from Hiatus, I saw them at the Spectrum and got my tickets via Lottery. My problem was that MANY kids around me were Efing morons and couldn't handle their S*** and wayyyyy extended themselves. Hence my hostility....We were all newbs at one time, I just Really Really wanted to be there to feel the energy...Should be a blast for those of you who got tickets, which clearly isn't any of us buecause all we are doing is bitching about not getting tickets...for whatever reason.

Tickets now, Stub Hub, EBay, Strikezone tickets, etc. thousands of tickets held by scalpers. The real problem in all of this. The only thing we can do as fans is not support these people until laws are created to punish ticket scalpers.

I myself will never pay over face value for a ticket. I've never paid over face value for the 80ish Phish shows I have seen.

I would also like to point out that Hampton only has 14,000 seats. That's not alot. Reducing chances even futher.

This is a great idea! While I was lucky enough to get tixs for the entire run through the lottery, I think the simulcast will keep some people away who dont have tixs, which in the end is good. One of the reasons Phish ended was that it got too big for them to handle. If 10,000 extra heads show up in Hampton, it will be a mess, the band will get a bad rep and few venues will want to host their shows anywhere (like the Grateful Dead overwhelming lot scene in the 80s and eary 90s).

Second, most venues over 10,000 seats in America are owned by LiveNation, who works in conjunction with TicketMaster to completely control the live music industry. The fact they get the large allotment of tixs for their lottery speaks volumes to the power this band has over the industry. Its a broken system that Phish itself cannot solve and probably cant (see Pearl Jam and SCI antitrust suits against TixMaster). Blame the system, not the band and my condolences to all those that got shut out, Ill see you on Spring Tour!

phish should set up the entire process for the simulcast by themselves, that way they can make some money off of it. and they should broadcast in nyc/boston (big cities), to keep people at home. they can also accomodate many last minute tickets

I totally understand everyone’s frustration I tried presale as well as ticketbastards. Will I pay more for a ticket depends? That is how this country works. If I refuse to pay a cent over face value and the guy next to me will pay only a dollar over face its sold. Now take this situation to the lot. Flat rate for some heady nuggets 100 bills. Now should I just be able to approach someone and say no I’m going to give you 50 bills and we are even. No he is going to divide it in half and offer it to me for 60 bills. But wait that's not half 50 is half it's the way business is. Oh wait it doesn't cost 50 bills water, sunlight, care, transportation, risk, etc. It’s whatever it sells for and what the individual is to pay for it. We were all unable to purchase because of demand this should be a simple concept. If you got in congratulations if you didn't there are other ways, venues. Anywhere you go in life there is greed the system is not perfect. But what is sickening is a parent company selling tickets for ten times + over face while still trying to or not fill customer orders. For a band that strictly condemns this on their website. Hampton is a great venue for this occasion and others including myself will have to wait "patiently". I think patients, and not trying to be the one, is a lot more controllable virtue, than controlling others greed especially in a capitalist environment. Phish needs to sell tickets only from their website and venue, knocking out the middle man/ticketmaster all together. They also need a simulcast at mid-sized (or bigger) theaters. If String Cheese Incident could do it for a random concert, Phish can do it for their momentous reunion concert; if not PBS just canceling Austin City Limits for one of the days.

It is all necessary.

I understand that they've given a lot to fans already since their inception in '83.

Look had Phish announced a 19 city spring tour nobody would be bitchin about the Hamption shows because there would be plenty of other choices. You know they are going to announce more dates, probably even some prior to Hampton, so relax. The scalpers that hold Hampton tix will get burned when other dates are announced because the demand for these overpriced tix will go away.

On a more positive note...the sun was out today, temps in the mid to high 70's. I happened to get Phish tickets last weekend and couldn't be more happy. I also couldn't be more pleased to know that Phish will announce more tour dates in the very near future. It IS rumored that band will host a 3 day festival in Limestone, ME in the summer of 2009. I want to know where all these "fans" were in Summer 03? Out at Shoreline where tix were pretty much free and the gorge and utah where about 5000 people showed up! There were plenty of extras at deer creek that year and I was turning down free tickets left and right. People will flock to the carnival, realize that it's not what they have idealized and tickets will be easy to get within a year of touring. I'm praying for Atl / Big Cypress the week after Hampton, then all the brokers can eat those tickets.

I understand that Hampton Collesuim only holds 13,800 for concerts but what pisses me off is that their are tickets that are available but scalpers are charging an arm and a leg for them, when they know we dont have the money for that. I hope that when phish holds a festival that ticket prices dont rise like that. This happened when Widespread Panic took a break and came back. Their first shows were Radio City Music Hall, NYC and all of us got shut out of tickets. There were brokers all over the net selling tickets for hundreds of dollars. The day of the second show I got on e-Bay just for shits and giggles and to check out some prices. Low and behold there were tickets for $20.00 each. E-tickets. Thought it was a little sketch. I bought them thinking what do I got to lose, less than the price of one ticket ... big deal! I get to the show and I must have been approached by a hundred people looking to sell or just give away tickets to the show. I saw one guy just throw up in the air about 50 tickets just cause he was pissed off. I will admit it was minutes from show time but just goes to show that we need to not buy these tickets from these brokers. We also should not be going to these shows w/o tickets so that the scene stays true but Phish will be on tour in a town near you soon so I say BOYCOTT the brokers and wait til summer tour!

I just got MIRACLED! Just got Sun Tix for me and my buddy!! Payin' 150 each which I think is a GOOD DEAL! Now I know I get to see at LEAST one show! PS I am not buying from scalpers, 20 kids tried and only one of them went through, and doesn't want to drive 30 hours for one show! WOOOWOOOOOT

Yea ok dude. Where were you for Phish 2.0 return at the garden? Tix were going for like 900 a pop! Then summer 2003 Free tix for 3/4 the shows! Don't hate on me cause I feel Like dishing out 150 on a ticket! Don't you think I tried to get tickets the normal way? I refuse to Stubhub or evn go throu ticketbastard's scalping company. But w/e I found 2 tickets for relatively cheap ( for my budget, I understand some of you arn't willing to dish that amount and I understand) But now I know I get to see what Phish still has to offer. I am a long time true fan. I want to go to Hampton. I shelled out the extra cash. I am not happy it had to be that way, but I am sure as hell not going to apologize for it and I will be smiling all the way there.

Phish is fun!

Sorry 420slam, it will be mostly kids seeing this show not "kids", if you get my meaning. If you saw many Phish shows from 93-97, you saw the best, and plenty of people might get on me for this. As soon as Trey hit the "weeeeeeeoooor-weeeeeeooooor" synth-midi stage, it was the beginning of the end. Some call it exploration, I call it a departure from the tight and orchestrated jams written note by note in the years prior to that. There was till exploration, but it didn't rely on effects, it was pure to the night they played it and never sounded the same again. I am not bashing in the least, I have been to many a phish show before and after the 93-97 runs, just haven't seen anything like that again. An echo here, a bust out there, but not consistent. They grew out of the jokes, parlor tircks and gimics (crowd signals, tramps, henrietta, etc) and became quasi serious and in so doing changed their format. They are still amazing and I can't take that away from them, but something has be taken away from us. I hope that the reunion spurs a summer tour in which they play a big festie so that we all can bask in the moment and see if it holds up in 2008 what was so relevant to me in 1991. Heres to the boys!!! Thanks for coming back!

I too would love to see this or these shows either in person or at a simulcast, but this petition seems like phish owes this to us. They dont, they are just four guys whom have an increadible ability to play some amazing music together. Forgive me if I am wrong but I thought they disbanded due to pressures like this. They dont owe anyone anything. I wish the scene would just chill out. I thought things would fizzle down, but guess I was wrong. Either way you can sure bet Ill be in a theatre to see these shows if phish desides to simulcast the shows. No one rocks like they do. happy halloween to all.

I think the internet and messages boards like this have absolutely ruined the scene. Everywhere you look there is someone with a negative opinion. To all of the people bitching: Its much easier to be negative than it is to be positive. Dont take the easy way out. We as a fanbase are much smarter than that (I hope). The internet with all of its rumors and ways to get a negative point across anonymously via message boards has taken all of the fun and spirit out of the scene. It used to be about mail order. It used to be about that sweet looking stub with Pollock art and a hollogram. It used to be fun. The fact that I feel compelled to write this dissapoints me as a fan.
