Lotus Halloween: Die Young

LOTUS RELEASES NEW STUDIO ALBUM, HAMMERSTRIKE, ON OCTOBER 14
HALLOWEEN THEME ANNOUNCED - "LIVE FAST, DIE YOUNG - THE 27 CONSPIRACY"
LOOK FOR THE BAND ON TOUR IN PREMIER U.S. THEATRES THIS FALL

Lotus
This fall, Lotus releases their highly anticipated studio album, Hammerstrike, and steps out on their most ambitious tour yet. The months ahead will wrap up a huge year of growth for Lotus; a year that has positioned this instrumental post-rock outfit for a breakout 2009.

Hammerstrike (October 14, 2008/SCI Fidelity) finds the band reaching back in order to move forward. Primarily recorded live in one room to analog tape by Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Man Man), the album captures a sound that harkens back to the 70's but never slips into nostalgic retreads. The compositions are focused and melodic, filled out with orchestration including swelling violins and cellos, banjo, wordless choirs, and electronic noises. Though the tracks range from dance floor ready rockers to soaring post-rock instrumentals, the album is held together by a sanguine spirit pervading each track. The big guitars, feedback, and distortion serve an optimistic purpose. It is a decidedly American feel that invokes big skies, open roads, and a zealous yet naïve pursuit of the idea that defeat will never be conceded.

For the homecoming Halloween show this year in Philadelphia at the Theatre of Living Arts, there is a very special theme - "Live Fast, Die Young - the 27 Conspiracy." Consider it a tribute to all those artists that have passed away before their time, specifically at the age of 27. Everyone is encouraged to dress up like the rock star of your choice, alive or dead, or simply come decked out in the costume of your choosing.

The band will tour this fall in support of Hammerstrike. The complete list of confirmed dates is as follows:

speaking of which, why arent more bands out there (who are doing post thanksgiving shows) doing or advertising thanksgiving food drives, would be a perfect time for that (conscious alliance)

See you all there. Lotus has been on a good run since summer '07. Givin y'all that are going a heads up that Splintered Sunlight, a local Philly Dead cover band that is pretty good and been around for a long time, is playing for free just off South St. and near the TLA @ 6pm. Should be an awesome night!

"live fast, but dont die young" -- that should be the "very special theme" for this Halloween show. I like the idea but think its a horrible reality since it most definitely is not a "conspiracy" that many rock & roll deaths occured at the young, young age of 27. Sadly, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison all died because of living too fast (and within a year of each other to). Certainly Kurt Kobains suicide was more than heavily influenced by too many drugs & alcohol. Kristen Pfaff, the bassist for the band Hole (Kurt Kobains wifes band)died from a amck overdose. Grateful Dead founding member Ron "Pigpen" McKernan drank himself to death. Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson was the leader of Canned Heat and killed himself with too many barbiturates. The Uriah Heep bassist, Gary Thain, OD'd on a smorgasbord of drugs. The theme of these deaths is obvious and entirely unnecessary and avoidable. It's also a damn shame that at the age of 28 we lost such musical talents as Bradley Nowell of Sublime (heroin), Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon(cocaine), Tim Buckley (heroin); and at 26 we lost Nick Drake (the anti-depressant amitriptyline), Gram Parsons of The Byrds (heroin), and Hillel Slovak of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (original guitarist - heroin again). AT THE jerry Garcia Birthday Bash every year in West Virginia I hear the owner of the farm, Trip McClelland, announce to the crowd (and I paraphrase) to "party like its the last night of your life, but make sure its not your last night." You all get the point. PARTY SAFE PEOPLE and dont do stupid stuff that can kill you.

I Love Lotus by the way and go see them every chance I can.....check them out in concert if you havent and you will not be disappointed. These guys are on fire right now.

I was thinking of checking out their Fort Collins show tomorrow night, but then I downloaded one of their shows off the archive and listened to it.

^^^ haha you can't be serious

56HR is fagrock, simply put/no offense to anyone. Plus it's quite the mismatch.

Lotus killed the Canopy Club monday had a great time. their light show is something else too.

I couldn't agree more, felt the same way after I saw them in Omaha last week. I saw them briefly at summercamp this year, but its not the same in the middle of the day. Their light show is just as great as the tunes...itchin' to see them again. Seriously considering making the trip out to Boulder to catch them for New Year's if I dont go to Umphrey's in Chicago instead

The Colorado shows have been banging. San Francisco based BLVD has been supporting the shows and they throw down like crazy clowns on stage...I expect we'll be seeing a lot more of them in the next couple years...some serious dance party. Always nice to
