DC - I don't take you as one to dismiss music quickly, so my advice is throw on the Justice album (Cross - not the word, the symbol, I'd paste it here, but I don't want to blow up the comments box with non-supported character text and have it appear as a stupid windows "I don't know this character" box), and take a good listen. Play the album in order, as most electronica albums are a journey, and if you have a commute, I suggest headphones with the volume at 8.

Caught Dr. Dog last night in Eugene. What a nice surprise! Check 'em out if they come to a town/city near you! Delta Spirit opened and they were great too.

Props to the people behind TI- the buses were seamless, hand-offs between sets were short and fluid, and someone must have made a deal with mother nature's mom again (last year was sunny and beautiful as well). Fleet Foxes and Dr. Dog stole Sunday and despite never having heard much of Vampire Weekend, their music was really fun and I appreciated their draw from Africa...a biting review for them in the end however.

Cool review Dennis. I really take your point of view seriously and I highly appreciate your knoweldge of music, but I respectfully disagree that the Raconteurs are one of the best live acts around. I do really enjoy the band, but I feel there are many more bands out there that are on another level when it comes to a live show. I couldn't agree with you more on what you said about MMJ on your review of their show. They are slowly taking over the world. They will be on a level comprobable to Radiohead when they fully hit their stride with their next few albums. Their live show is outstanding. NYE will be outrageous. You also intrigued me to check out TV on the Radio next time they come around. Keep the awesome reviews coming.

i understand where he is coming from with justice, but throw on their album cross and tell me you cannot listen to it. The members of justice even admitted themselves that musically they are not as talented as so many others, but their first album cross bumps. Justice is so legit, the french really have house music on complete lock right now. look at the dj's from paris and france, its absurd

Fleet Foxes got me with their smoky lyrics. and vocals. very nice.

some indie music is just so damn sappy I cannot stand it.

never heard of most of these bands.

Raconteurs are definitely up there and MMJ in 6 years will be on Radiohead level, give or take. this review makes me want to move out west, or at least visit.

hot chip, okkervil river, fleet foxes, justice, raconteurs, dr. dog.

These are all Excellent groups with lots to prove. Another festie making me jealous of the bay-area music experience.

Dennis Cook and Dave Vann on write and shoot duty --- I'll take this pairing for any festival review any time. again, I love this format of breaking up the bands for review sake instead of one flowing review piece. thanks.

I went Sunday and thought the Raconteurs were great. As far as hard, psychedelic rock goes they are pretty much at the tops. Unlike My Morning Jacket (who I love and thought put on a great show on Friday at the Greek) the Racs actually jam, a pretty rare thing in popular music these days. There were some pretty substantial passages of improv music in their admittedly short 30 minute set. They also threw a few segues in which was nice.

Dr. Dog put on a GREAT set as well. The rest of the bands on Sunday didn't do too much for me though I do think the Fleet Foxes have a nice sound and the Dodoes were ok too. Tegan and Sara were terrible IMO.

I went Saturday, "Dance Day". Really really fun. Hot chip was great, but I was wishing it was indoors in a sweaty, dark club. TV on the Radio exceeded my expectations. Justice was f#cking ridiculous! The crowd was going nuts and rightfully so. While they are in North America(Montreal, Toronto, NYC, LA), I highly recommend you go: http://www.jambase.com/Artists/37995/Justice/Shows

Thanks Jambase, for keeping the diversity of sounds coming!

I like Justice (don't get me wrong). They are one of the reasons I went to the show in the first place. The CD is great. I am not sure they should be headlining these festivals though. They have one CD they try to stretch over an 1:30 interval. They came back for the encore and did one of the same songs over again. Next time, Daft Punk....or Cheese. EOTO with Kang the night before blew that whole festival out of the water. They played from like 10:30 - 2:00. Yeah baby!
