MATISYAHU ANNOUNCES MAJOR FALL TOUR WITH ALBUM PREVIEW LISTENING PARTIES
SHATTERED EP TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER 21 ON EPIC RECORDS
NEW FULL LENGTH ALBUM LIGHT OUT EARLY 2009

Matisyahu
On October 18, Grammy-nominated artist Matisyahu will begin an extensive fall tour across North America, including stops in Los Angeles and Philadelphia. The tour coincides with the release of his upcoming EP, Shattered (Epic Records, October 21). The four-song EP features tracks from his new full-length album, Light (due out in early 2009). Matisyahu will guide fans through songs from this forthcoming album during listening parties after each show on the fall tour.

Produced by David Kahne (Paul McCartney, Regina Spektor, Sublime), Shattered features songs from Matisyahu's forthcoming album recorded and mixed in Jamaica, New York, Los Angeles and Virginia. Several guest artists contribute to the four-song EP: ground-breaking Jamaican reggae rhythm section Sly & Robbie (drums and bass, "Two Child One Drop" and "I Will Be Light") Stephen McGregor (co-producer, keyboards, drum-programming, "Smash Lies") son of legendary reggae artist Freddie McGregor and among Jamaica's youngest and most innovative young producers, Fish (drums, "So Hi So Lo") and Norwood Fisher (bass, "So Hi So Lo") of the legendary L.A. alt-punk-ska band Fishbone and experimental turntablist Ooah from the Glitch Mob (co-producer, co-writer, drum programming on "Two Child One Drop").

this guy seems merely a novelty act to me. ive seen him a few times by himself and just didnt get it. i think the only time i really enjoyed his style was hearin him cover beastie boys stuff with bisco even then i just didnt feel it that much. also i feel like he throws around the whole phish tour thing entirely to much to get credibility with the live music crowd, because in my opinion his live show is lacking alot of improv or idiosyncracy as far as individual shows go. just not my cup of tea.

I saw him a few times and his band completely tore it up. Once he let them go off, they went nutso and it was sweet. I third the opinion that Bogarts in Cincy blows. No re-entry at a non-smoking venue= nazi security measures. I dont smoke tobacco but these smoking bans effect all of us man! especially us who partake in herbal recreations

I saw this dude at Coachella a few years back. The dude does have some talent but I don't really see much longevity for him. The whole Hassidic Jew shtick is kind of lame. Not to bag on his religion, but I have a hard time dealing with many fundamentalist religious doctrines. The guy won't even shake a woman's hand or allow female vocalists to open for him. I wonder what his views on the Palestinians are.

I agree with Terry, this guy is no good and his set in Portland was weak...his music lacks variety and the whole beatbox thing is just stupid. The only reason dude gets any attention is that Umphreys fans under the age of 20 have no idea what hip-hop is and mistake his "act" as real music. This guy should go away...

I'm not Jewish and have not seen him live, so I realize my opinion might not mean shit. But, listening to his music, especially the "live at Stubb's" you can really feel the deepness of what he's saying. I may not agree with his message totally, or his religion, but I appreciate the heart and soul he puts into what he's doing. That album has made me wanna see him live, but everyone's comments concerns me. Does he do a 45-minute set every show, or was that a festival slot?

1st couple times I heard him a few yrs. back I thought the same thing. WOW! this is alright. But its not. Just an FYI if you see him outdoors and its on a Friday he will stop playing at sundown for the Sabbith. Maybe next time he will schedule his shows better so he is not on basically at sundown. MATISYAHU should just go away. Not trying to hate but he really is just crap.

Met him and gotta photo with him at moe.down '05 or'06. He was chill and a pretty thoughtful dude. His music is OK. just OK. The shows just aren't that high energy. I wouldn't say for him to go away tho...just don't go if you don't like it.

Let's look at his religion from a production stand point. His first show on the tour is on a Saturday in Milwaukee, WI. His sabbath ends on sun down on Saturday. The show starts @ 7:30pm. This means(according the The club's website)that the doors open at 6:30pm. This means that Matisyahu and the 2 opening acts must be sound checked by 6:30pm for the doors to be open on time. According to a sunrise/sunset time talbe on a website from the Navy the sun will set in Milwaukee on Oct. 18th @ 5:03pm. This means that Matisyahu and friends can leave @ 5:03pm from wherever they have been holed up since Friday afternoon(since he can't do anything on Friday afternoon or Saturday other than pray and eat) then drive to the venue then set up all of their equipment, then sound check 3 bands all by 6:30. I highly doubt it. One could say that his band might actually show up and set up all of their stuff on Friday before sunset, although very highly unlikely, considering other events at venues. This is even more unlikely considering all of the Saturday night shows on his tour.

My bad... It is possible that Matisyahu(management) have arranged for back line to be ready for the band(s) when they arrive. This though still seems hypocritical as most likely the venue would set up the back line during Matisyahu's holy time.

I cant say much for his live performances, I think he sounds better in studio. He has some really beautiful lyrics, even though Im ethnicaly half jewish but disagree with Zionism. I feel like understand him in some ways from a spiritual point of view, I support what he's doing. Im thinking about going to his show because he's touring with K'Naan, who is a really amazing hiphop/reggae performer. I saw him with Damian Marley last year and he was unbelievable!
