Dont know how i feel about that.. guess theres no camping.. and night shows being at clubs reminds me of vegoose.. im certainly not going to pay a festival ticket price, plus a hotel, plus pay for all the good night shows individually ... hopefully its not his way, but its looking like it

THIS IS HORRIBLE. I CANT BELIEVE LANGERADO IS DOING THIS, WHY ARE THEY MOVING IT TO A BIG CITY. DIDN'T EVERYONE HAVE A BLAST LAST YEAR AND THE YEARS BEFORE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE (WELL TECHNICALLY MARKHAM PARK ISNT IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE BUT U GET THE IDEA). BIG CYPRESS WAS AMAZING TO SAY THE LEAST. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF MONEY. ILL BE THERE BUT ID RATHER BE AT BIG CYPRESS.

The only problem with the city setting is unleashing all the ragers onto the public. lots of problems with that anyhow, we are all too roboted to drive, can't afford cabs, and trouble leaving the venue in time for the late night shows. On the plus side, TITTY BARS. I think they are just trying to curve the incredible rage we brought last year, with it as the unofficial kick off of the festi season everyone comes with their rage faces on, hopefully this doesnt't that somebody is not going to get naked at the les claypool show and pleasure themselves with a glow stick while humping mud. FREAK FREELY

This is a horrible idea. Langerado is one of the best festivals out there and the location/layout is a big part of it. Seminole is very close to Ft. Lauderdale and being able to camp in relative wilderness adds to the appeal. Making it an urban festival completely changes the dynamic and I will go on record to say the organizers will regret this. Late night shows at clubs off site? Terrible, terrible, terrible idea. I was at Langerado last year and was going to make it an annual tradition. Now I have to reconsider.

Sounds like it will be a smaller fest. I've seen other REAL small fests there, nice place, but tiny. And its not actually in the city, its out on the Key. Be careful leaving, there's only one way in & out, 2 lanes. Also, getting down to South Beach on a weekend at night is near impossible. Worst traffic you will ever see. Try shows downtown, easiest to get to. Probably at Tobacco Road, cool venue.

To be fair, this city set up with late night at different venues is how Langerado began. Going back to its roots...

If its a no camping festi I thinks that sucks. How can the average non contraband hustling fool like my self afford such a event. Not to mention transporting ones self safely between it all for a resonable price. I suppose I should suspend judgment until there are more details but last year was fucking phenomenal, one of the best especially for a winter festi. Bring back SNOEDOWN.

Langerado last year was by far one of the best festivals of '08. Mostly because of the lineup, but also mostly because you could WALK back to your CAMPSITE after music ended late at night...instead of drive drunk through Miami to a late night show which you have to pay more money for. People commenting in favor have to understand how much more money this will cost. The hotel, and the late night shows. BTW this is not unique, there are plenty of festivals that make you get a hotel, plenty of festivals that have late night venues. In comparison the ones you camp at and havemusic run until 4 A.M. take the cake easily.

I (like everyone else on this board) don't understand why they changed venues. I haven't been to Big Cypress (tho have heard of it's awesomeness), but I did go to the previous venue. It just seems like are de-evolving. Festivals should try to improve themselves from year to year and learn from past mistakes.

Miami would be fun too, but i'm just pissed that I didn't go this year.

as a florida boy ive been to the past 4 langerado's. while we all know last year was the HEAT at big cypress, its hard to beat checkin out some new music and chillling during the day, and then going out and raging your specific favorite acts for full 2 set plus encore shows. some of my fav shows ive seen ever were late night langerado shows so i can only imagine miami would kick the shit out of ft lauderdale. no curfew at venues i believe but damn pricy!

This is my favorite festival in the country and I think this move might just kill it for me. I've been going to Langerado for the past 3 years and I have to say that the best year was last year at Big Cypress. I loved that venue sooo much!!!

1. Ticket pries will most likely be higher this year because of the location. (This will only further detour people feeling the pinch of high gas prices)

2. 5-O will be everywhere during this fest like when it was at Markham Park.

3. I will miss all the wildlife (alligators and birds mostly) that was everywhere last year.

4. Having 5 stages last year was so great.

5. All late night shows last year were on site so no one had to drive while spaced out.

6. Why would I wanta go to a festival where I have to see the urban sprawl of city lights?

On the note of on-site camping I think that the festival organizers wouldn't sell out so much as to get rid of camping on the festival grounds. However, if they do I will not be attending and will be saving my money for 10K or Summer Camp next year. WTF is up with the posts on here about this being a good idea, why would you want Langerado to be like Lollapalooza, Virgin Fest, All Points West, and Jam on the River? It was never that type of festival after its first year so why change it now? Plus, if you don't like being dirty and sweaty at a camping festival why whine about it and not just go to one of the above fests I mentioned.

FIRST OF ALL TAKE THIS FROM SOMEBODY WHO LIVES 5 MINUTES FROM DOWNTOWN MIAMI, THIS IS A HORRIBLE IDEA. YOU GONNA GET A HOTEL NEARBY? IT HAPPENS TO BE SPRING BREAK WEEKEND SO YOUR GONNA GET WHACKED WITH ABOUT A TRIPLE THE REGULAR PRICE ROOM RATE (YEAH, I CHECKED LAST YEAR FOR SOME FRIENDS THAT WERE COMING IN TOWN $250 TO STAY D-TOWN OR ON THE BEACH). SCIcane YOU GOTTA BE THINKING OF SOMEWHERE ELSE. DONT KNOW WHAT OR WHERE YOUR TALKING ABOUT BUT THAT WASNT BICENTINIAL PARK. ITS IN DOWNTOWN MIAMI. LATE NIGHT SHOWS ON MIAMI BEACH? THE CLUBS ARE TINY AND IT ABSOLUTELY SUCKS TRYING TO PARK THERE.

I JUST GOTTA STOP FOR A MINUTE. JUST TO MANY THINGS TO PUT HERE I GOTTA COME BACK LATER.

Hopefully a new festival like Roth puts on a spring festival and blows Langerado away. oh well another festival falls.

Wow - This will be like Vegoose after this year - Never to be seen again.

The really took a good festival and ruined it in MY opinion and we know all the saying's about opinions. Come on, downtown Miami is not a condusive place to hold the type of event that Langerado previously was. They say that 75% of the bands signed on for 2009 have never played Langerado which means a huge change in direction in music. I understand chaning the venue to a degree, but taking it to the city is not the "spirit".

The hotel rates during March in Miami area are already hiked up due to the Spring tourists and will be hiked even hire on the news of this weekend even. Hope everone is ready to spend $250 a night minimum for a somewhat decent hotel.

Langerado organizers should take a lesson from Vegoose.

Good luck to those who attend and I hope you have fun and enjoy.

the cost will most def keep me away. it would be fun to take a break from the cold and head down to the heat, but there's no way i'm going to be able to afford plane ticket, fest ticket, hotel, cabs to everywhere, food, late night. 07 was so much fun. i'm not too worried though, some new festival will pop up that fits my budget and has the music i'm looking for, there's so many to choose from these days, i just hope a new one pops up in the spring, there's not too many that time of year.

Stukinkendall, you are right, I was thinking of where they used to hold Marleyfest on Key Biscayne.

I'm sure the organizers didn't make as much on the huge camping fest of last year with all the added costs, so figure consolidating this year can increase their return on investment. Ethan always said he built up the South Florida music scene for love of music, but Langerado was his chance to finally make some sort of living out of it. Sucks, but its a business.

How much do you really sleep at a festival? It's light by the time I sleep usually, so walk down to the beach and crash. We ended up staying for 2 weeks living like bums down there and loving it. Moving to Miami is an awful idea. Partying in Miami can be a lot of fun but it is also very expensive. I really thought Langerado was moving in the right direction by becoming an all camping festival. Big cypress provided space for 5 stages, on-site late night shows, and an easy walk back to someplace safe when the music stopped.

O and dont forget all those night shows you want to go see, goodluck getting in unless your somewhat decently dressed which means people either having to take the time to go somewhere (another risk) to change or change at their cars? O and parking hahaha sweet loving parking fees

i personally thought the concept of festivals was to bring everyone together for the weekend, free of travel...

i dont understand why they would move it to the city where people will probably get lost, and have more of a chance to get in trouble with the law..

big mistake by langerado to do so.

Lame Move Langerado- you'll regret it when ticket sales suck. Let me just say Big Cypress was amazing compared to Markham Park and now they are just backtracking in the wrong direction- why?! does anyone know why they would ever think that this would be better? driving? hotels? expensive shit? headie scene? i don't think so. Langerado your line up better be fucking amazing to get me to go to this fest again.

I agree, this is definitely the end of Langerado and it's a damn shame because it was one of my favorite festivals in the country. Last year was one of the greatest times I've had in my life. Big Cypress was soo fucking gorgeous and laid back, everything was perfect (with the exception of the cancellations- not the festie peoples' faults). Langerado + Spring Break in the same week in Miami= Brofest '09 (with double the DUI's!) I can see the dollar signs in the gov's eyes now.

Weak! Being that I live in FloRida, the drive is inconsequential. What matters, however, is atmosphere and logistics. I don't want to travel all over freakin Miami to pay to see bands that SHOULD be included in my ticket price in the first place.. The whole "extra" late night set deal is ridiculous. I want to go, camp, and be merry far away from the hustle and bustle of a big city (I live in one every other day of the year). I will save my dough and go to any of the festies that take place at the Suwanee. Bear creek is coming up soon...

I heard these same complaints last year when it moved to Big Cypress...It's not in the middle of the city....it's on an inlet from the OCEAN!!!!!!!!!! There is public transportation to take you to the fest from as far away as West Palm Beach...so everyone is complaining about going south to the beach and Miami to go to a festival...STAY UP NORTH IN THE COLD!!!!!!! And it's going to have 75% new music??? GREAT - do you want the same festival over and over??? try some new music...just my thoughts

This definitely seems like a terrible move. First, let me say this:

Big Cypress was awesome and all, however that was the worst festival weather I have ever experienced. The winds were extremely dynamic and it rained multiple times, even ending late night sets.

I don't know what Langerado you guys went to in 2008, but I honestly thought it was one of the most poorly executed festivals I have ever been to. Not enough schedules and there WERE kind of a lot of police there.

That being said, moving it to the city definitely makes the festival lose its appeal to a lot of people that were attracted to it last year. I'd be willing to bet that we see a totally different Langerado with the idea that more locals will attend then out of towners. It can be done, and money can be made. That's the bottom line.

IMO this festival was already seeing the end of its days in 2008. Just go visit one of the better festivals that will be going on around the country. Im sure something else will pop up to take Langerado's inaugural festie spot. Just be patient.

i'm not a fan of the change of venue. i'd much rather camp in a field filled with cow dung and fire ants than have to drive in a city full of hair gel and douche bags. it really will be dangerous with the amount of intoxicated people pouring out of the fest into a city already filled with a-hole drivers. this will also be a VERY expensive festival with the necessity to stay in a hotel (and i'm sure hotel prices will be jacked up for the weekend). to be quite honest, i'm hoping the line-up will suck so i won't feel a need to go. get kanye and metallica! woo! haha.

but in all reality, the best fest in florida is BEAR CREEK in nov! Bear Creek will be nothing short of amazing, so do yourself a favor and be there.

The majority of "Festival People" love camping....it's part of the experience. I don't know one single person who didn't think last year's Langerado was the best year by leaps and bounds!

We are ALL shock that 2009 will be in Miami. We ALL thought Langerado had found it's permanent home last year at Big Cypress.

What's more shocking is the fact the organizers are now trying to silence their fans outrage. Face it!! Their ruined THE best Florida festival!!

What a joke putting it in downtown Miami. No knock to Miami as I am a FL resident. That is not the place for the type of festival Langerado has cattered to in the past. Who know's maybe they really want to go in a different direction whether to try something new or just pure greed.

Count on the following:

Wayyyyy over priced hotel rooms (prices are already jacked up for Spring time anyhow and will now be triple the normal cost even for a flea bag hotel the rate will be $200plus a night)

Unreal traffic and parking issues should enough people even attend in the first place.

Every bum, crackhead and panhandler in downtown will surely make their way over to the park.

Police presence will be insane and overbearing.

People driving all over Miami under the influence instead of stumbling back to their campsite.

Overall, I think given the current economy and travel costs involved they will see a serious decline in tx sales this year as Miami is a very pricey city to begin with. It was more economical for attendees to have a place where camping is on site or within a short walk.

I live 20 minutes from the new venue, so for me it's an easy choice to come back to the festival I've attended every year since it's birth. That being said, I'm still very disappointed in this decision. It really takes the spirit of what Langerado became in the last few years - the best premiere jam festival in South Florida. Now, it's Lollapalooza South. A few facts, though: 70,000 attended Ultra at Bicentennial Park, and 25,000 attended Langerado at Big Cypress - so we'll fit just fine. Ultra had the music going until 3 or 4 am, and Club Space down the street is open until noon, so curfew won't be an issue. Maybe late-night shows will go on at nearby clubs and on-site? We can only hope that being closer to city resources will mean more options. Hopefully Metrorail will run late for us. Let's wait for the line-up before we turn this mutha out.

Not only were my posts deleted from Langerado's myspace, but they were deleted from here as well. But, I repost:

They want to be able to sell more day passes, so they moved it to Bicentennial Park in downtown Miami. There will be no camping. Late night sets will cost extra and will be at other venues on South Beach. The reported ticket price will be between 175-200 for weekend pass. That's more than last year, that included camping, late night sets and one more day of music. There is also a sound ordinance of 12 to shut everything down in downtown Miami. There is no where to park and where there is, it costs $20. This is a big bullshit move.

Ok, so SouthFloridaJams the organizer of Langerado is completely ignoring even well written non-attacking remarks and questions made to their Myspace page. Not one posting has been release on their myspace page before the announcement. Honestly, do they think that this will just be swept under the rug. I would have more respect for them if they would at least release a statement or more details on their thoughts and decisions as to why the significant change instead of keeping all hush hush and in my opinion disrepecting the community that paid for tickets over the past several years. Does they owe me an explanation, not really, but a little honesty would be nice. How about not sending attendees questionnaires at the end of each festival year if you are going to ignore the responses.

Fingers crossed that there is something remarkably huge on the horizon to make up for it.

I mean lolla is different because chicago is heady and welcoming unlike the skeevy ass rats that live in miami. I, for one, would love to see Langerado at a different site, but we have to be realistic about this. They are NOT going to move the venue. Contracts have already been signed and money has exchanged hands most likely (these things take place before announcements are made). Unfortunately, the best we can do is just boycott it and hope that next year is back in Big Cypress. OF COURSE, the way they are handling this so far makes me think that I will never support anything they do in the future. It is a very sad state of affairs right now.

oh by the way, the dress code for the late-nite shows will be: black button down shirt, black pants preferably slacks, black shiny shoes, hairgel. and dont forget to learn how to negotiate the vevet rope to get in the shows.

This is the worse news I have heard in a long time. Langerado WAS an incredible festival that trully embraced true festival life. It's unfortunate that they moved to a trendy egotistical city. For those of you who go...have fun with traffic, and ATF...

Big Cypress last year was ridiculous, at their worst the fire ants make for a silly spunion story but aside from that everything was gorgeous and amazing. If something ain't broke, don't fix it. Why move to Miami? Just read all the posts from people that live in the area and it all seems "so crystal clear" that this is a bad move. Really, if you want a festival in the truest sense of the word check out Summer Camp this year in Chillicothe, IL, especially a band called Zmick. RIP Langerado, you were my first festival and will be sorely missed.

PS They're probably clearing out the fire ants at Big Cyp for Phish NYE '09!!!

this is all stupid

in the middle of downtown miami?

what are these people thinking? i have attended langerado every year since 2005 and it's done nothing but get better and better every year. 2008's langerado was definitely the best it's been. Why take it to a step down? Now you will have to pay extra for late night shows again. I don't know how you guys roll but, that sucks for the working man who is broke and has bills to pay, but i guess the fine people at langerado aren't thinking about too much besides their own pockets. And as for the fire ants, chiggers, and all the other little bugs that all the pansy little "hippies" were so afraid of... get over it you're bigger than them, and spend some more time outside in the future and you won't be so scared of something so stupid.

As a native flordian I can say with certainty that this is wayyyyyy better than markham park, not better than cypress in theory, but will be practically speaking. The festival was just not big enouhg to warrant the huge space last year. Also they kid of put a bunch of sick acts on at the same time. Markham park sucked (althoug good music went down)..... there was no system in place for cabs to get you to a hotel and the night shows were very far away from any place you could stay. This will be more expensive because the hotels will be more money, but it will all be way closer in a city that you can take cabs in. Ill have to wait for the lineup..... but Im pretty sure Ill be there..... oh and I went to big cypress phish and it was well enough said. but lest we not froget phish didnt do too bad a job in miami either maybe even dare I say it most solid run post hiatus......

I think you are forgetting how great it was last year to be able to go from one late night show to the next without any problems. We were able to experience at least a little of each show if we wanted to. Now this year, we have to pay for each late night show and they are going to be scattered throughout miami. Well, you can forget about experiencing as much music as we were able to experiencing last year. So if it's all about the music, which i think it is, then i think everyone has a right to be upset about the venue this coming up year. We not only liked the camping aspect, but the chance to experience all the late night shows was amazing.

Danpfunk you and yours are gonna have the best langerado ever!!!! You and yours are going to be 2 of 65 people who show up. Why did i choose 65...because the only people arguing in favor of the move are old people who cant take camping, its to muddy, its to rainy, its to to to.....BOO!

Floridaales...at the end of the day, spunions worshiping glowsticks. How is this possible if you and the like minded old people who dont like camping out, being one with nature being at the true spirit of festivals... are asleep right after the early bird special. You cant see glowsticks at 6 p.m. ....please explain? and if you dont want to explain, maybe you can not bash people for having a good time, or maybe you can egnore them like the mature thing to do. or maybe you and people in favor of this move, will just ruin the other camping festivals

Chesirecat3..Sure I will explain, and by the way I am 29 and was out last year til the end of the night (4am) for most of the days and will most likely attend late night shows this year. I love camping too! Am out in nature in my tent about 3 weeks a year. The spirit of the festivals encompass like minded free thinking people who come together for the music correct? I am not bashing anyone, but find it sad when the basis of how much fun a festival is how messed up people can get there..Read all of the posts and note how many people are worried about the police, driving wasted, etc. What ever happened to it being about the awesome music? This is my point, and I think you are mistaken in thinking that I do not partake in any of the activities I mentioned which is wrong. I party, but it is not why I go to fests and if it is not safe to do at one fest I save it for another. Answer me this question, would you go to a festival that your favorite band was playing at but there was no way to have any "extra fun"? Your answer I would like to hear.

P.S. Not everyone who likes the old glowstick routine is to be put in the group I mentioned, and I did not use the "spunion" word either.. The people I was mentioning were just not the most considerate people I have ever met and they lacked total respect for all of us camping around them trying to sleep at 6am..

jhw2676.. You are right about the late night shows, but in the past few years of late night Langerado shows I have experienced some very intimate, killer sets of some of my favorite bands at different locales. While it was not the most fun to have a sober person (we took turns) I think the change of scenery was great and added a real dynamic to the fest overall, but that is just my opinion. I know it is more expensive but I am not a rich man, I save like everyone else to be able to do things like this and if you miss it, well you miss it. It is not like you aren't already at one of the best music festivals in the country.

I am sorry to who ever was offended by my post, and even by the negativity I did exhibit at certain points. It was however only a response to the overall negativity I had seen in most of the previous posts for what in my opinion are a lot of the wrong reasons...You know what they say about opinions, and mine is just another. If you hate the change, don't go. If you love it, see you there. One thing we should all appreciate overall is that we get the opportunity to experience Langerado.. Sure there are other fests in FL but this is my favorite and I hope it is successful so we see it for years to come whether it be in the middle of a city, or the middle of no where..

I moved from Vermont to Palm Beach county for about 10 months and Langerado last year was probably the best experience i had while living there. now im living back in VT and seeing this news im really glad i went last year. Have fun sounds like a bunch of hair gel wearing douche bags driving yukon denali's and Cadillac Escalades with the occasional trustifarian will make up a majority of the crowd. This is sad news indeed, BOYCOTT LANGERADO!!!!!!!!

Lame as hell! Last year rocked!!! This is going to be way to much $$$ for somebody like me who came rom Maryland last year. 08 Langerado was without a doubt in my top 5 shows of the whole year!...if not THE top. Why do this to us?

it all matters on the lineup, if the lineup is amazing and the late nights are bumping you cannot hate. Vegoose was so amazing last year with the same idea except its not vegas and it will be much easier to get to the late nights shows than vegoose was. Also miami, the beach, sleeping in, showers and beds. these are things that are so amazing, this summer will bring plenty of camping festivals and everyone knows that, we need more festivals with bomb locations like miami. bicentennial park is so amazing, i was at ultra last year and that place is crazy for a festival, so many hotels in walking distance and the metro/taxi's will take you anywhere you wanna go. it all comes down to the lineup though, just please give me sts9, the biscuits and lotus and i will be there

So Luckily this article is old and no one is going to say what Karma has brought to the table. Now everyone that argued in favor of the move, you really will be the only people at Langerado. Thank you Phish for making your come back the same weekend as Langerado, you made it so easy for us to make a decision.
