Really one of the grate venues, feels like i havent seem umph in quite a while, one of those bands i become more and more impressed by each show, truly progressive shit coming from this band, whether you like what their playing or not they are master craftsmen.

They announced this at their Chicago show in July...going from the Aragon (worst venue in the world) to the Auditorium theater is probably the biggest acoustics upgrade ever.

wish i could be there; its going to be blast like always. i celebrated NYE with them a few years ago and it was truly memorable. going to be in the ATL with STS9 this year, should be a good time.

WARNING...........I love the change from the Aragon(i agree, worst venue ever) to the Auditorium, but a little tip, if your not sitting on the main floor or in the first balcony, DON'T EVEN WASTE YOUR TIME. The 2nd the 3rd balcony at the Aud. are terrible. Went to Panic earlier this year there, and people sitting up there were literally falling asleep (since your about 500 feet above and away from the stage). I'd get my tickets asap if your planning on going, because once the good ones are gone, you'll find out very fast why people were selling 2 3rd balcony tickets for panic for $10 total. Bathrooms at this place are a nightmare as well, however, once you get thru the front door, security is a joke.(at least it was at panic, and from what I hear the Eddie Vedder show 2 weeks ago as well). Can't beat the sound or location, though. Hopefully UM will pick out some nice openers.

I went last year, and had the absolute time, Chicago freezed my nuts off, the Aragon is massive ridiculous venue, with insane planet mural on the ceiling, just an awesome place to consume micro-dots and party with your homies, but this year headin to the GARDEN for evening with MMJ!!!!!

Yea, What is happening with Phil for New Years??

Maybe Phil is busy with his family during new years, therefore I propose this idea: A Funk Review like never before, starring- Porter, Baptiste, and Stoltz opening for Madeski, Martin, Wood and Maceo Parker, opening for Mike Gordon's band... A triple shot of kick ass funk!!! Triple shots of funk are great and such a show is already happening at The Green Mountain Winery in California on September 14th with The Neville Brothers, The Funky Meters and Dr. John, so why not put together a triple shot funked out New Years celebration.. This hypothetical New Years show could happen in San Francisco or Oakland...

I 100% agree with the Auditorium >>> Aragon... The Aragon kept me away from the past few UM NYE shows.

Only thing I've heard for West Coast NYE is Tea Leaf Green and ALO (each doing 2 nights @ different venues) in San Fran. Hot Buttered Rum @ Fillmore Dec. 29th.

Last year was amazing...front row all 3 nights...seems like it may be a lot harder to do that this time around. It was my first time at Aragon last year so I liked it. What is the Auditorium like in comparison? Can't wait to see their openers!

Hot Butter is playing on 11/29 not 12/29. I'm willing to bet that either the Dead or Phil & Friends will be playing The Warfield or The Fillmore for NYE and the preceeding evenings.

PSOGATER------The aragon to the auditorium is like going from your mom's piece of shit Geo Metro, to a Brand New Cadillac. The sound there is amazing, and with it being in the heart of downtown, it's much easier to get to, plus (although it costs $$) plenty of parking and restaurants and Hotels much closer. Like i already said, though, get either main floor seats or 1st balcony. The sound is still great in the higher balconys, but you feel like your 5 miles away from the stage and somewhat "away from the action". At least I did when I was up there, and I wasn't even in the top balcony.

sigh.... cuttyfives would you please just overdose already, obviously enough people care as evidenced by the fact that they are playing a larger venue.... why would you even bother posting about a band you don't care about.... Please, when phish comes back or cheese or whatever please wear a white t-shirt that says cuttyfives on it....... Please

The Aragon sucks so this should be alright. I'd rather have general admission than seating but the improvement in sound quality is worth it. They should announce the openers soon.

i just bought my NYE tickets on pre-sale today and i'm really excited to see Umphrey's in Chicago!

now on to the real reason for my post- i'm all alone in my NYE adventure and am looking for some fellow Umphreaks to crash/split a hotel with. i don't live too far from Chicago so i'll be taking the train in so you won't have to worry about picking me up or anything, just meeting me at a hotel/hotel room and letting me chill with you for a couple days while we all enjoy some Umphrey's.

if anyone would like to help me out, please e-mail me-

I really hope to hear from some people so i don't have to enjoy this experience alone!

see you all there!
