WIDESPREAD PANIC ANNOUNCES FALL 2008 TOUR & NEW YEARS EVE SHOWS
Last Full Tour Until Late 2009

Widespread Panic
On the brink of their induction into the Georgia Hall of Fame on September 20, 2008, Widespread Panic is ready to return to the road this fall. Aside from select shows, this will be fan's last chance to catch the band live until the end of 2009. The band has just enjoyed a whirlwind summer tour that included a headlining performance at Bonnaroo, their first Canadian dates in over a decade, and securing the record for the number of sold out performances at the Red Rocks Amphitheater.

Kicking off in Austin, TX on October 10, this special string of dates includes the band's first Halloween show in New Orleans in six years. The band will also continue the tradition of their legendary New Years Eve shows, playing Denver's Pepsi Center on 12/30 and 12/31. The shows will feature special guests Yonder Mountain String Band. Fan club Mail Order begins on September 8 and the public on sale date is October 11.

This is a good move for them...they have been playing the same markets at the same time every year. Just like Raleigh around 4.20 doing 2 shows....did anybody see the attendance?? Not that good! Charlotte 2 nights in July...attendance not that good. First, they never planned on playing a spring or summer tour in 2009 at all.(never even in the works) joshc104, NYE is not a co-bill with YMSB, they are support on the show. Sorry if the band has inconvenienced any of you who live close to ATL....good move WSP!!

I gave up on the "black market" a while ago and now work as a humble social worker paying rent and trying to keep my fridge stocked... and eyes red. Are you all trust fund babies retired .COMers or what? how do you finance following what ever tour you decide upon. Im glad i live in the bronx and can hit up alomst any NYC show but damn how do you folks do all that traveling?

Fuck yes. To all the georgians bitching about having to travel on nye, suck it up, I live in Denver and came to your city eight times in the past 10 years, you can get off your assess and come to mine this year. Highsmith said "tha southeast is panic's play ground", and I would have to respectfully disagree, colorado is panic's playground, they obviously like playing here more than anywhere else, what other state is guaranteed 5 shows every year? (3 RR's and one end-of-summer two day fest). Yeah, they're from GA, but Co is a second home to these guys by now. If thousands of people can fly to Atlanta from colorado every goddam year for new years, you all can fly out here once, so stop bitching, or stay home.

Why doesn't panic play in a better place, like Bergen or Oslo. A far northern realm of great magic and wonder, where hooves fling back the red-tinged snow of eons past and ancient sayings whisper to you in the thick of the woods, blowing ever-onward to the fjords. A place where wolves still howl, and ancient bards sang of by-gone times of warriors and heroes, their swords ringing out in moonlit night.

Why stop now? IMO the band is just getting back into shape. I really wish Sam Holt had stayed on. The shows I saw with him are some of the best Panic shows I ever saw. Let the Dead have Jimmy, his guitar work is out of place with WSP. It just sounds like a bunch of fast notes going nowhere. That said, if I were in Colorado, I'd be seeing Lotus! There will be more people feeling the music and getting down to Lotus and a lot less attitudes!

In response to other comments, I don't see where it says YMSB is opening for WSP, simply that they are special guests. I think Yonder's gotten big enough to warrant them trading opening spots since there's 2 nights. Tough to imagine who's going to sit in on what in these shows...
