INTIMATE MONDAYS AND TUESDAYS IN SEPTEMBER
SHOWCASE CONTEMPORARY SINGER-SONGWRITER TREASURE
Joseph by Mark Davidson |
Jerry Joseph will be holding down a Tuesday evening residency at The National Underground in New York City, beginning tomorrow night, September 2, and Monday nights in Baltimore, MD at The 8 X 10, starting Monday, September 8. These shows will be solo acoustic, and according to Jospeh, will "give people a chance to see what it is I do that is legal and hopefully well crafted and entertaining."
Craftsman is a word that fits Jerry Joseph well. Over the past 20-plus-years, Joseph has only grown from strength-to-strength, evolving into the one of the deepest yet most tuneful songsmiths of our time, surveying our age with a scarred but surprisingly hopeful sage's eye that neither sugarcoats things nor sabotages what little light shines from within the modern wreckage. His latest release, the self-titled debut of The Denmark Veseys, his duo with percussion whiz Steve Drizos, shows Joseph standing strong with the "other hearts of tin" walking around this wounded world, finding insight in the mess of headlines and soundbites flying at us, ever able to unearth some small inspiration to pull our asses out of bed each morning, sussing out love and tenderness under our collective callousness. This is a guy you want to sit at his heel while he tells ya stories and takes you around the globe in song, so these twin residences in September offer a rare chance to watch the man work in real time.
If you're anywhere near these shows it's well worth the trip to catch a singer-songwriter that should already be listed in the modern pantheon of Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Steve Earle and Conor Oberst, up close and personal. And trust us, it's always personal with Jerry J.
