ASTRAL PROJECT QUARTET SET TO HIT ROAD

Hey, New Orleans jazz/jam fans! Astral Project -- the highest-flying of all the Big Easy's musical wizards -- are hitting the road again.

The first leg of this sonic trip is a Midwest run that will hit St. Louis (9/9), Indianapolis (9/10), Madison (9/11), St. Paul (9/12 & 13), Chicago (9/14 & 15), Memphis (9/16) and Little Rock (9/17).

In October, Astral Project heads to France for a 10-day tour, and then it's back to Europe in November for a festival in Germany.

The new tour marks the debut of Astral Project's newly scaled-down lineup. The band's longtime piano player, David Torkanowsky, left the group in May to pursue solo projects (sic). So saxophonist Tony Dagradi, guitarist Steve Masakowski, bassist James Singleton and vocal drummer John Vidacovich are heading out as a quartet. The new sound is looser, with lots more space in the music, but also more focused and groove-driven.

Astral Project has written a lot of new material for the quartet that will get road-tested on the Midwest tour. Be on the lookout for a new album by year's end.
