"The Crowes addition to the lineup may have struck a negative note with some Vibes regulars". What? Luther has given this band new life. If "Vibes Regulars" have a problem with that, then they have outgrown the music scene and should stay home next summer.

Wish once in a while that the photographers would post some pics of the surrounding landscape at these festivals. We've seen a million pictures of the same musicians doin their thing. For anyone who's curious about the festival surroundings its all left to the imagination.

WOW,

This festival was unbelievable. Phil was rippin, DSO played an unbelievable thursday night slot, and the Crowes' opener "Move it On Down the Line", (not Thorn In My Pride btw), almost made me crap my pants. Sam Bush only gets a 2 sentence review? He was one of the best sets of the weekend, covering "Whole Lotta Love" was NUTS!!! Derek and Susan was AWESOME, as was UMPH, DBB, Kreutzmann, and PBS. The only set I felt was lacking a little was American Babies.. They're a little too poppy for me, but not bad. Jackie Greene is the MAN! (next to Phil of course)

I've considered this fest the last couple of years but haven't decided yet to make the trip up from VA. The lineup and write up may have sold me for next year. Is there camping and is there a decent setup for it? And man, that pic of Jen Durkin is smoking hot!

Hell ya Phunkie there is camping. This review lacks any pics of the gorgeous waterfront we were all on. Who doesn't love camping right by the beach? Vibes was one of the craziest festies I've been to ( and i've been to a LOT). I would def. reccomend hitting this up next year if you have the means!!

Yay Sam Bush and that rockin' UMph set was perfect for a sunday evening!!!!!!

its so true, like bill graham said "the grateful dead arent just a band their and environment" the festivals they have inspired are the same way and people dont come to them to stare longingly at the hairy dudes on stage, they come for the environment, I wish people would get over their idol worship and obsession with fame(especially these days) and get into that vibe. GOTV is a fest that supports that more then alot of others with the interactive audience, variety of ages in the crowd, and the way wavy gravy and even ken talk to the audience.

Sound anything like this?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-dwSt2p0Gg

That's Duane Allman on guitar. One of his shining moments as a session man. The outro is often credited as the genesis of southern rock.

Karchy, you are SO right!!! Give me some shots of the surroundings! The geography a festival has to offer REALLY can add to the experience. Shroom013, I hear ya about Taj. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only Taj fan around. But "umphrees mcweak"? I haven't listened to this show yet, but I can't understand the hate I've recently seen on this website toward this band. Festival sounded awesome, might have to make the treck next year, esp if UMPHREY'S are invited back.

I wold have liked to hear about the Taj set too. Talk about a living legend. At least we got one picture to know he was even there. Also the crowd walkin out on the Nevilles. That shouldn't happen. Otherwise looks like a rippin' time.

Excellent review, easily one of the best of the festival articles this summer. I was at a tiny fest in NY's Adirondacks this weekend and met some really cool folks who had come from Vibes and they were just glowing with energy- one to put on the calendar for next year. I'd be interested in hearing more about the crowd. And, yeah, phunkie, I agree that Jen Durkin is truly beautiful and she sings with deep soul. DBB is a great band.

Great festival, love it in seaside park. i dont see too many reviews that are broken up into each band.. interesting and different.. but i guess thats how the festival arranged it (no over-lapping sets) and here no missing band reviews. great job brian

first vibes, expectation level wasn't too high, and left on cloud 9. unbelievable time, good people, great sight. Gordos band was the highlight for me, i couldnt get over the ridiculously nasty bass lines that mike lays down, unreal. phil was insane as well. and not to mention sunday which had to be one of the most epic, chilled out and perfect days.. nothin better than drinkin IPA listenin to sam>derek>umph>neville, under a perfect eastern sun
