strummit was wonderful i will never miss a summer at hornings hopefully.... the place is magic
oh and good review
Horray for hornings hideout!
Jeff Sipe!! I know he doesn't play a stringed instrument but he is the man! I wish I could have seen the old and best version of Leftover Salmon with Jeff and Tye North as the rhythm section again. I miss those days and Mark Vann for that matter. This looked like a great fest with Darol Anger everywhere too.
Any excuse to go to Hornings as far as I'm concerned. I had a great time but there is only so much bluegrass I can take so I was extremely grateful for the presence of Jeff Sipe adding some drums to the mix. He really is a fantastic drummer Q258...
Now this looks like one BAD ASS festival Can't wait for Bear Creek It will be my first Yonder show ,Keller looked good but when is he not!!! Someone needs to bring a big string festival to the deep south.
SHITGRASS!
I drove solo to Oregon from Fort Collins, Co to Oregon for the Summit. Spent time on coast and went to Horning's. The place was sick and the vibe was fantastic. The whole experience was perfect and it turned out to be one of the best times of my life. Leftover was a nice treat. Keller sat set was the most fun I ever had at a show. Go to Horning's!!! It is so much fun--great music and people. Such a positive experience. I am still so happy 9 days later. Thanks YMSB.

Yes, the east coast might be graced with All Good, Langerado, Rothbury, 'Roo, but the west coast is host to one of the most coveted venues in the scene. I've never heard a bad review from a show or event at that place. Someday I will make the trek clear across the country. You just can't find an event dedicated to bluegrass in the midwest.
terrific review! this weekend looked fantastic, i wish i could have been there. maybe next year. very well written and great pics too, nice!
I havent been out west for this festival or Telluride, and I really feel like I'm missing out on so much. The atmosphere of good ol' bluegrass with the beautiful settings that these festivals are in really seem absolutley wonderful. They're both on my list for next summer! And Nershi looks awesome with the long hair and bushy beard! Keep it going Billy!! Woulda been nice to here jellyfish...
Nothing is better than a weekend at Horning's. Good people, good music and a great memory for a life time. Seeing Billy back at Hornings groovin to jellyfish as like no other... did not think I would see it again. YMSB and Bob Horning puts on a great festival with just enough people to dance with. If you have the means I highly recommend it.
fordaj is a douchebag, ymsb rocks. this is my dream to make it out this festi, 3 nights of yonder w/ all other sorts of amazing bluegrass, in the middle of the mountains. can't go wrong.love me some yonder.
Thanks to everyone who made this a very epic weekend!
EEEErrrruup! EUPHORIA!!!
I've been to every NWSS except one(even went to Dexter Lake in 2001) & this one was the best ever IMO.YMSB really went all out this time...the special guests took it over the top.The Lineup on saturday was great from the first band on through Kellar & WMD's.Seeing Nershi & Mosely made it extra special.Spending time with Oregon Friends & Family in this awesome setting make NWSS my "do not miss" event.(Tellurude Bluegrass is on that list also)
Great Article, great pictures.Hoop to see everyone next year !
Great photos, Bill!
this looks like the gnarliest fest around. (and best place to hold a fest)
String Summit 08 was absolutly insane! This was one of the best festivals I have ever been too, hands down. Hornings is just absolutly beautiful, the trees, peacocks, friendly faces, the full moon, but most of all the music! Yonder the first night simply went off, playing classics. I was extremly impressed with Great American Taxi on Saturday, they brought the energy, and being followed by Emmitt-Nershi band with Mosley and Scott Law was the heat! The jelleyfish was insane! And who could forget Leftover, this was one of the highlights of my weekend. It is so hard to put into words what happens at Hornings, all I know is I will be there next year and many more to come! One of the coolest things I noticed was how great everyone was at this festival, NO ONE left Hornings a mess with trash or cigs, it seemed everyone was on the same page in there committment to keep this great place the way it deserves to be kept. Everyone who was there should pat themselves on the back for making this such an amazing festival!!
i agree, fordaj = douchebag. nwss = wet dream. yonder & keller at red rocks on saturday was perfectly magical: cloud cover, sprinkles, great sets by both artists, and non-stop movin' n shakin'.
I hope everyone is getting excited for Keller at the Mishawaka next week. Solo Keller and a show with Mosely, Droll and Sipe in the same weekend. Should be awesome and not to be missed. See you in the canyon.
