Pink Floyd's Gilmour Live Album

David Gilmour: Live In Gdańsk

David Gilmour
David Gilmour will release Live In Gdańsk, a double live album plus concert DVD, September 16 via Columbia Records.

The last concert on Gilmour's 2006 Summer Tour was held in front of 50,000 people at the shipyards in Gdańsk, Poland, at the request of the Gdańsk Foundation. The August 26 event took place on the 26th anniversary of the founding of Trade Union Solidarity in Poland. The concert was the only occasion on which Gilmour performed the tour material with an orchestra, using the 40-strong string section of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zbigniew Preisner, who was responsible for the On An Island album's orchestral arrangements. This is the first-ever recording of certain Pink Floyd songs performed with an orchestra.

Other unique features of the show included the special six-screen design, created by lightmeister Marc Brickman to allow each band member his own dedicated screen for the edification of the audience; the performance of "A Great Day For Freedom" with the orchestral arrangement of the late Michael Kamen, and a guest appearance by prominent Polish pianist Leszek Mozdzer, who reprised his piano part from "A Pocketful Of Stones."

There will be a number of formats geared at different price ranges. There will be a 2-CD audio-only version, a 3-disc version, which includes an extra concert DVD (114 minutes long) and "Gdańsk Diary," a 37-minute filmed documentary. There is also a 4-disc version, plus a 5-disc package, as well as a vinyl offering in a box of LPs: 8 sides will be the concert while the fifth disc holds two "Barn Jams," "On The Turning Away live from Venice," and two songs from the "Live From Abbey Road" sessions. You also get a 'Webpass,' which allows one complete download of the whole five discs in MP3 format to a computer of your choice.

Blunts, you pessimistically commenting on everything aside from Disco Biscuits is utterly cliched. Graduate from high school, get a job and spend some money on some good shows and music. Expand your musical horizon and not your moronic mouth.

true that larry!!!!!! where does it say you HAVE to get high to enjoy the music....not that there's anything wrong with that, but ....going to live jam band + getting wasted = pretty cliched , no offense bluntsnbisco420, but it IS as cliched as what your accusation is.....are you living in a glass house???...realize that to most of the non-jamband world YOU are a walking cliche (at least from what i assume from your "bluntsnbisco420" name implies

This is going to be sweet...I saw Gilmour in Los Angeles on 4/20/06...that's right bluntsnbisco, it was 4/20. And it was of the greatest shows I've ever seen. Just to see Gilmour play echoes was a dream come true for me. Especially in a 4000 person venue. That, and there was a pretty awesome laser show too. The excellent doses I had didn't hurt things either ;) I highly recommend the "Remember that Night" CD for anyone who wants to check out an awesome Gilmout live album. Just reading this article tempted me to play "Fat Old Sun" which is in my opionion one of the sickest tracks on the album. Get the DVD too and you'll see Gilmour backstage at one of the shows briefly chatting with Roger Waters.

This looks like a pretty sweet add to the collection! Gilmour ain't flashy or pretentious - he's a straight up rock guitarist soul and all. I'll take soul over high-tech noodles any day.

Gilmour is certainly much more enjoyable to listen to than Waters. Waters' solo stuff tends to annoy me. Through all of the political nonsense there are some good cuts, but for the most part Gilmour is far more easier on the ears than Waters. Kind of wish he would have focused more on the music instead of the rants.

Disco Biscuits are my favorite band, but people like bluntsnbisco420 make me HATE their fans.

Now that that's out of the way, I am very excited for this. I was lucky enough to be at the first Radio City show in 06 and it was phenomenal. Crosby and Nash came out and did Find the Cost of Freedom and then sang one more I forget (I'm thinking it was the syd barret song that was covered)

And the person who said Echoes was worth it alone..I agree, when i heard the beginning notes of echoes I almost started to cry. Best song I have ever seen live

I understand its been heavily covered, but that first comment has me seething. No one cares what bluntkid420biscorollheadorgywook thinks is cliche. It is not Gilmours fault that douchebags get high and listen to his music, its not his fault that you overplayed darkside of the moon in your dorm room, its not his fault that pink floyd stickers are found next to disturbed and korn stickers on the backs of honda civics with exhaust jobs. Perhaps if you could put aside your social constructs, agendas, band rankings, popularity contests, jamband cynicism and JUST LISTEN TO THE DAMN MUSIC THEN YOU WOULD REALIZE THAT NOTHING ELSE MATTERS...even my lame rantings.

How did this become about the Disco Biscuits? bluntsnbisco420 has once again managed to piss off the jambase community and make the comments all about him. I bet he's laughing his ass off watching you kids get all hot and bothered over his comment.

BTW, has anyone considered that bluntsnbisco420 is Brownstein's alter alias? Or did I just blow your mind?

Buntsnbisco...I understand you getting a rise outta making other people unhappy...My take is your that sketchy as*hole who cant handle what you intake, becasue you have a feeble mind...When you look around in your altered state, you must think why cant I have a good group of friends who care about me and are all having the time of their lives...instead those groups of friends look at you and ignore you like the US ignores Sudan.

Grow up, pay it forward, and change your shitty life...or not and stay close to the maggots.

btw, I'll be buying this DVD...and I'll watch it stoned and sober.

I would rather see roger waters than gilmour any day. These two need to just put their past shit behind them and do a show sometime before they both pass. Anyone ever been to Roger waters "Darkside of the Moon" live show? Epic as shit. I have never seen gilmour so I guess my opinion doesn't really matter but, I have always been more of a Waters fan. Did they ever find that pig?

I've seen Gilmour live twice, as well as Waters twice, and to me Gilmour is way better. Don't get me wrong, they are both really great, and far beyond the talent level of the vast majority of whats out there, but i tend to sway towards Gilmour. during a live show, I want to hear the happy good time pink floyd, ie echoes, fat old sun, even a few syd covers...the waters shows sway more towards the political and paranoid side,,...the wall, et cetera. All great stuff, but my vote goes with Gilmour.

Though Im sure the dvd will be awesome, I'm wondering what it will have to offer that wasn't in the remember that night dvd? I don't see any new songs added. I'll probably end up buying it either way. I guess having the audio cd of an on an island tour show will be pretty cool. NE one see that snippet of them busting out the acoustic echoes in the studio on the "remember that night" bonus features?

As for disco vs floyd, i don't think that even deserves acknowledgement.

if the floyd is cliche, then isn't bisco ten times more cliche for covering run like hell more than probably most other songs they play? and lets not try to compare waters and gilmour either. waters was THE primary creative force behind everything post syd. while gilmour may be slightly less pretentious and less distracted, seeing roger is like seeing david byrne. its seeing where those incredible philosophies spawned from. but then again, i'm only one opinion....oh yeah and my opinion is bluntsnbigcockinmouth needs to be banned from the internet until he earns that privilege. peace.

FloridaJam Sat 7/26/2008 03:47PM

i agree that waters was the primary songwriter, but how much did waters contribute to gilmour's guitar solos? I'd think that all the guitar solos were written/composed by gilmour. Gilmour is the recognizable sonic element of pink floyd along with Rick Wright's unique B-3 organ playing. That being said i have seen Pink Floyd (94 division bell tour), waters on several tours, and gilmour solo once. I enjoyed the Pink Floyd/gilmour solo shows more than waters solo shows for some reason. If they were smart they would reunite and tour as the 2nd original lineup one more time.

As far as that bluntsandbisco moron...lets just say there would be NO DISCO BISQUITS without the foundation of electronic space jams laid down by pink floyd. So if it is "cliche" to get stoned and listen to floyd, then that makes the disco biscuits 1,000,000 times more cliche...almost laughably so.

I was also at that 4/20 show (and at the Tonight Show performance taped earlier that day). It was amazing and I even liked the different arrangement of "Shine On" with Nash and Crosby. Which One's Pink? played a Roger heavy set on the Citiwalk after the show -- Alan Parsons was in attendance. A great night all the way around.
