Robert Walter Trio Dates

Robert Walter
Soul-jazz organist Robert Walter built a reputation as one of America's heaviest jazz-funk crossover musicians. Robert is touring as a trio in support of his latest release Cure All. Joining Walter on tour are Johnny Vidacovich and bassist James Singleton. Vidacovich is an elder statesman in New Orleans. He taught many of the local drummers and has been a fixture of the music scene there all his life. James Singleton has an intimate and extensive affiliation with the New Orleans music scene and a member of Astral Project, a fixture there since 1978.

"Robert Walter plays the Hammond organ the way it was meant to be played — bold and free, swinging. These guys are locked in a three-way conversation that is almost always loud, colorful and illuminating." —Wayne Robins, Billboard

"The album is Walter's best recorded showcase in New Orleans to date, finding enough common ground with the city's keyboard traditions to make sense here, but distinctive enough to assert his own personality." —Alex Rawls, Offbeat Magazine

"Hammond organ maven and jam band icon Robert Walter joins the longstanding New Orleans rhythm tandem of upright bassist Jim Singleton and drummer Johnny Vidacovich, charter members of Astral Project, for a slamming, groove-heavy throwdown that pays tribute to the influences of the Meters, Professor Longhair, Thelonious Monk and Jimmy Smith as it celebrates the spirit of dance." —Bill Milkowski, Jazztimes

According to Bear Creek festival in Nov. they are on the bill there as well. Hasn't even been mentioned on jambase yet, but so far there is a trio of trios including Skerik and Brian Jordan too. Not to mention tons of Nawlins flavor, google it. Or maybe not and let us have all the fun!

Robert Walter is the man! For my money nothing can touch the Greyboys between '94 - '97 but Robert is still putting some great playing out there. I agree Foo that Squaw Valley with some beer tasting going on sounds like the shit!

Robert Walter is a class act with SERIOUS skills on the keys. Just saw him in the trio format for two nights in Denver (with Stillwell and Redfield from the Greyboys) and it was great. As good as that was, I'll echo the call of milesgone, "Bring back the 20th Congress!"

james singleton is the best upright bassist that nobody knows about. Astral Project is the best modern jazz band in the United States that nobody knows about, unless you do or have lived in new orleans. the album elevado is a must hear for anyone who even remotely appreciates jazz. these shows will be rediculous

Saw these guys last year at a little club in chicago when his "Super Heavy Organ" CD came out. Skerik was playing with them also. One of the sickest shows I've ever seen. Soo much fun to watch & listen to these guys tear it up. Singleton & Vidacovich are incredible.

Cure All is a very decent CD. Slight change in direction from Robert more traditional at times but still very listenable through and through.
