Todd Snider: Peace Queer 8/19

TODD SNIDER COMES OUT AS A PEACE QUEER AUGUST 19

Todd Snider
Peace Queer, due out August 19 from Todd Snider, is, he says, "a record of brevity, humor and hope."

Fans of rock 'n' roll, folk, country and Americana music have long been held in Snider's sway. His last album, 2006's The Devil You Know, landed him on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and Late Night With David Letterman, and appeared on numerous year-end Top 10 lists.

The overtly political Peace Queer takes a bit of a left turn for the outspoken Snider, beginning with the cover photo, which depicts Snider being held at gunpoint by a shirtless hippie. "Clearly, anyone who looks at the photograph can tell that I had been abducted by an international league of peace queers and forced to write protest music. You know, for their cause," says Snider.

The eight tracks on Peace Queer include a Civil War sea shanty, a plaintive cover of the classic "Fortunate Son," a spoken-word number, a rocket-fueled meditation on contemporary culture ("Stuck On The Corner"), and a Fred Sanford-ish funeral dirge. The emotional centerpiece of the album is the wistful "Ponce Of The Flaming Peace Queer."

In addition to Snider, Peace Queer features Patty Griffin, Kevn Kinney, Don Heron, Doug Lancio, Will Kimbrough and other luminaries.

"Things happen in this album besides you being told that war is wrong, with a beat," Snider says. "I don't know that war is wrong. I just know that I'm a peace queer, and I'm totally into it when people aren't fighting, in my home, at the bar where I hang out, or in a field a million miles away."

1. Mission Accomplished (because you gotta have faith)

4. Is This Thing Working?
5. Stuck On The Corner (prelude to a heart attack)

Agreed my friends parents turned me onto him a few years ago and I was lucky enough to have front row seats at a solo acoustic set. Smart, witty, and just downright hilarious lyrics I know I'll be getting this album.

Can't wait to hear this. Todd Snider is one the best song writer's of our day. His set at Old Settler's Festival this year was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Hope to see him again soon.

todd snider remains my hero, obviously. but an 8 song record?? isn't that, like, and EP or something? and what about that song about the guy who pitched a no-hitter on LSD that he's been doing live recently? i was counting on that to be on the next record... maybe he'll release a companion album of non-political songs on the heels of this one or something? the new track on his myspace sounds grrrreat.

Snider is definately the man. His live act is one of the best. I agree with Johnny Thumps, what's up with 8 songs. oh well, hey johnny t. if you know where i can hear the song you were describing i would appreciate the knowledge.

Peace Queer is, in fact, an EP but the release date has been bumped back to 10/14. Don't worry, it'll be worth it!

The baseball song is killer and called America's Favorite Pastime. It will be on the next full length album to be released next year with Don Was producing.

Thanks for the link great song but my only problem is he says that Doc pitched in 1917 and Albert did not technically discover LSD until 1938 anyone know what's up with that?

WOW! For once a thread without negativity... makes me want to actually post. Thank you all for clearing the air on "America's Favorite Pastime," love that song and, "Where is it?" was the first thought that went through my mind.

Todd is an amazing songwriter/performer and I am just glad he continuing to make new music... now if he would only bring back, "I Can Drink Any Woman Pretty." :)
