NEW GIRL TALK ALBUM, FEED THE ANIMALS, NOW AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD
Girl Talk
Feed The Animals, the new album by Pittsburgh artist Girl Talk (a.k.a. Gregg Gillis), is now available digitally via a "pay what you want plan" on IllegalArt.net. The album will be officially released on CD by Illegal Art on September 23 and on vinyl by Wham City Records this fall.

Any price grants the download of the entire album as high quality mp3s. $5 or more includes the album as high quality mp3s, plus the album as one long track, which is how Gillis intended for people to listen to the album. $10 or more includes all of the above and a packaged CD when it's available in September.

For Gregg Gillis, the Girl Talk project has always been about embracing pop music. On his fourth album, Feed The Animals, Girl Talk celebrates pop to the extreme and continues his sonic evolution towards his party-infested live shows. The new album, which took two years to make, sees Gillis collecting material that was developed as part of his ever-changing live show. Using 300 samples in over 50 minutes, Gillis has created his most heavy-hitting, party-centric album yet. Throughout eight years of dedicating himself to creating sample-based music, Gillis has focused on the art of sampling and developing new tracks that have their own character, and surpass the original elements. He has refined his skill and technique and challenged himself with each new release, and in turn Gillis has solidified a specific musical identity and successfully created a particular style of music on record and in a live setting that excites listeners and makes them hungry for more.

maybe i'll give his albums a try but i caught some of his set at summercamp after sts9...i'm not really into his techno-pop style or whatever, and he sounded pretty amateur-ish to me. i prefer instrumental (no vocals), 'intelligent' dance music, but that's just my opinion....

Girl Talk isn't necessarily for everyone, and that's all there really is to it, much like Country music. But, by no means is Girl Talk Country... but, rather a hodge-podge of pop dance that makes the mind spin from all of the mash-ups he is creating...and that spin makes me, and countless lady friends (who seem to go crazy for GT) dance. Check it out if you want something to dance and bang your head to... if you want to spin in circles and pick flowers this may not be for you.

I had one of his discs, forgot what it was called. Great background music for a party or something.

I do like this new 'pay what you want' thing, though

if i'm at a party and near the music controls i try to put on something that people are NOT familiar with. dubstep mixes, electronic jams from archive.org, random interesting/danceable myspace pages...i get pretty bored hearing mash-ups of dance/pop songs i didn't even really like in the first place.

I had never heard of Girl Talk before, but I had a fucking blast at Summer Camp. Doubt I'll be the album, but I'd see Girl Talk again given the right circumstances.

Wow, all you people must be anti-fun or something. It’s not like what Girl Talk does is easy, he is the best sample-based DJ mixing pop right now and is the perfect music at a party. Just non-stop of the sweetest hooks that do wear thin after like the 4th time played BUT he switches it up so fast you don't have time to get irritated by the original artists. He sort of applies the "If life gives you lemons, make lemonade" saying to Top 40 music. Love his shit, and mad props for helping to change the music industry dinosaur.

Girl Talk is exteremly hit or miss: I went to Summercamp with 7 other people. The 3 I was with during Girl Talk all loved the set and had a great time dancing. The other 4 who we didn't see there said it was the worst show of the weekend.

That said, Z-Trip does the same thing way better.

Damn marc. Rockin your hater shades today? Baltimore is fucking utopia compared to Pittsburgh.

I've heard this guy puts on a fun show, but that song sucks. Wow 300 samples in 50 min? Talk about musicianship.

i love girl talk's last album "The Night Ripper", and i personally believe that hes been one of these artists that will only continue to get better due the fact that what it takes for him to make all this music is amazing producing with amazing equipment. His first couple albums i only gave 1 listen to each, but his last one, which there is a huge noticeable difference the producing, was amazing.

I enjoy him and actually dig the track bounce that they have posted. It can get old at times, but I know at parties people really boogie down...though I have had parties where yonder gets everyone crazy!

I understand that some people don't all like the same things muscially but this guy puts on a great show. Places like Red Rocks and other big venues aren't the best for his energy that he can bring to a club. Everytime that I have seen him it is different and everyone is getting the fuck down. I refer his live show to everyone. Also, who gives a shit about "headies" in the NE. What is a "headie" to you MarcSmalls? Is it someone who goes to shows to get fucked up? Is it someone who claims to be environmentally conscious? I believe that it is both because most headies that I know go to shows to get fucked up and they are not environmentally conscious because they have no job and they drive from place to place polluting the air more than anyone else.

excuse me while i sip my hatorade, but this guy is a straight up joke, only the punchline isn't funny at all. i walked past his set at summercamp on my way in between real music happening on other stages, and was not impressed at all... all he does is press a button every now and then and dance next to his gear, while a shitload of idiots dance around on stage with him, trying to create the illusion that what he's doing is good.'m sure it does take him a long time todo all of this but that doesn't mean it takes talent. sometimes the samples aren't even on key together and it just sounds like garbage.

thumbs down.

jesus christ why do all you hatin ass douchebags even get on jambase anymore?? You need to vent some frustration go hit a punching bag or somethig..dude's great at what he does, and for what it is, the music is fun. Keyword FUN. And why in the hell wouldn't it be music?? Just because it's made on a computer doesn't mean it's music? My god...I really enjoyed his summercamp set, but apparently I'm in the minority that likes to have fun.

this site is becoming infiltrated by stuck up trust-a-farians who hate everything not associated with UM or STS9. Girl Talk is pure fun enjoy it if you can-I will again @ Lolla. Stop the anonymous hating and make some of your own music if you don't like what you hear, or just get over it.

Word Danimal... These message boards would be no fun if everyone said "Oh he is the greatest!" Come on... this guy is just super hyped up. A lot of the indie music gets hyped up for about a month and then you never hear of the band/DJ/whatever the fuck this guy named Girltalk is.

i didn't say it isn't music, it is. it's just not musicianship, not in the least. and i think he has every right to do what he does if he enjoys it, but i don't think he should be able to make people pay for it. if he wants to spin my new years party or my family reunion or somethin, that'd be great.

for you cod haters girltalk is not about great music (i mean he covers top 40 pop songs) its about having a good time an shaking a leg to some nasty beats if you dont like noding your head and bouncing around a bit find something else to get into if some say its good party music why isnt it good music to go see and party to not to much of a differece since a concert involving any dj is really just a party

I too am a big fan of this new wave of "name your price" I somewhat enjoy night ripper and live he can be fun but once uv seen him once thats pretty much it. also I am very happy i chose not to pay for this album because this fad is over and this album blows. oh and LOL @ "he is the best sample-based DJ mixing pop right now" thats because he is the only one, lol.

Girl Talk is just way too ADD for me, and while I appreciate some of the mashup ideas he comes up with and a lot the songs he plays, veering into a new song every 20 seconds makes it impossible for me to enjoy it. I haven't seen him live and have only heard one album, but that is what I took away from Night Ripper. Z-Trip definitely blows him away, but he has been my favorite DJ for a long time, so I am a bit biased.
