Pearl Jam's Bootleg Program Made-to-Order
With Mobile, Digital and CD Options Available for the Band's 2008 U.S. Tour

Pearl Jam
Pearl Jam will expand their bootleg program for the upcoming 2008 tour to include three different options for fans seeking to obtain bootleg recordings of the band's live shows. High-quality digital downloads and burn-to-order CDs of the entire show will be available following each show date exclusively via Pearl Jam's fan club, Ten Club, at www.pearljam.com. In addition, mobile bootlegs of three live tracks per show will be released following the show on V CAST Music phones and at www.pearljamconcerts.com through Verizon Wireless.

"Pearl Jam continues to explore new and innovative ways to get their music to their fans," said Ten Club Manager Tim Bierman. "As we have learned from our younger fans, more and more listeners are accessing their music through their mobile phones." Continued Bierman, "Since Verizon Wireless and V CAST are at the forefront of that technology, this collaboration makes perfect sense to us. With our proven track record of delivering high quality bootleg downloads and CDs, we feel this new approach will not only benefit our fans, but provide an exciting opportunity to share Pearl Jam's music in a more interactive setting."

Digital Bootleg Downloads
Digital downloads of full Pearl Jam shows will be available for download two weeks after each concert in mp3 and FLAC formats. The price for the digital bootlegs will be $9.99 (mp3) and $14.99 (FLAC) per show.

Powered by Internap (INAP), Pearl Jam's digital bootlegs are high-resolution digital files released without DRM (Digital Rights Management) so that fans can burn them to disc, transfer to them to MP3 players, or play them from their hard drives.

Full concert digital downloads are available exclusively at www.pearljam.com.

Made-to-order Bootleg CDs
In addition to digital bootlegs, Pearl Jam is launching a new physical CD program for this tour. CDs will be manufactured according to customer demand and will ship within three weeks of each show date. CDs will be made-to-order using recycled material. The price for hard copy bootlegs is $16.99/show and will be available exclusively through www.pearljam.com.

Mobile Bootlegs
By request from fans who are increasingly accessing their music via their mobile phones, Pearl Jam will debut mobile bootlegs as part of the 2008 US Tour. Each stop of the tour, Pearl Jam will provide three (3) stand-out tracks per concert mixed in real-time and released via Verizon Wireless? V CAST Music service or www.pearljamconcerts.com. Following each show, Verizon Wireless will offer fans one (1) full-length track as a free mobile bootlegs download with two (2) additional tracks available for purchase. All three tracks will also be available for purchase as ringtones and ringback tones.

All of Pearl Jam's bootlegs recordings will be professionally mixed in real-time at each show to create the mobile bootlegs, Pearl Jam's recording engineer will mix the recordings on the Verizon Mobile Recording Studio Bus.

Both the mobile and new burn-to-order CD options are an extension of Pearl Jam's official bootleg CD program, which was initially launched on the band's 2000 world tour in an effort to provide fans with high-quality, affordable bootlegs of their lives shows. Since the program's inception, over 3.5 million bootlegs have been sold.

Pearl Jam's twelve-date 2008 U.S. Tour kicks June 11 in West Palm Beach and wraps up on June 30 in Boston. Complete Pearl Jam tour dates available here.

PJ is one of the most fan oriented bands out there. The fan club includes Xmas singles that they send you on 45's. That's vinyl to you youngsters!!! Let us not forget that they are the leaders (keenan41) in progressive fan programs..They were the first to fight ticketmaster, they do not allow bar codes printed on their artwork...they give money to charity by the boatload, so I would like to know who's coat tails they are riding. Long live the Jam.

In case you didnt know keenan41, Pearl Jam has been around for awhile, and was one of the 1st bands that did this sort of thing. And the other posters are correct, one of the best at giving their fans the little extras! Love em!

Ya no shit, they practically pioneered the official release of live shows. I feel bad that I haven't listened to the last like 5 albums they have put out. Any word on how good they are?

Pearl Jam was one of the first to put unrealesed songs on the B side of singles. Also had the ten club were I had my name printed on tickets for 1995 tour. Here my list of pearl jam shows. Starting with Greek Theatre in Berkley, CA (1993) then they play acoustic at the bridge school benefits many times (1994, 1996 & 2006), the Tweeter Center (MA) 1998 & then again in 7/11/2003 with suprise acoustic set. Also the infamous 1995 Golden Gate Park show and make up concert in San Jose. About golden gate park show had Eddie not left the stage that day some fans would have died at that show. It was 98 degrees that day with real bad humidity (West coast doesn't get humidity like east coast & midwest) with mosh pits and pearl jam playing people would have died that day trust me I was there. Ticketmaster fight that no one backed and has cost me lots of money over the last decade in overpriced concerts. Like can play hard electric sets and soft acoustic sets kind of like Alice in Chains. One of the best non jambands ever.

what happened to good old fashioned taping & trading -- that's what really makes fans happy - not being able to purchase something you've already paid for -- sorry folks but this is not innovative at all -- & as far as being the first -- the grateful dead started to allow taping in the early 1980's - for the cost of admission.

"bootlegs"???

I'm all for PJ's longstanding and continuing efforts to meet their fans' needs, but this seems to me inappropriate nomenclature for what they are doing. In fact, "official bootleg" seems like an oxymoron.

i was really excited to read this headline on the news feed of jambase especially... until i read it was 14.99 for a decent download of the show... i love this band and will ever support them... but god damn that is way too much for a freakin download of a show... especially after veddar and gang protested ticketmaster with such passion... ive spent well over 50 dollars to see this band within 10 rows however 15 bones to hear a decent bootleg... i'm sorry veddar but i'd rather steal it (no DRM if you are a band with this still you are fucked)

A little lame pearl jam, callin em bootlegs so you can sell more and sound cool(Crumbs of respect fall to floor) Not ripping on the music, just the fact that it's called a "Soundboard" not an "Official Bootleg", if you have to spice up the name of an SBD so more people in the crowd that night will buy em, than you should really reconsider your touring career. And by the way plenty of bands in the 'jam' community have been doing this for years.

who cares how much it costs to buy a bootleg?? they allow taping right?? livewidespread.com or liveum.com and things like that are the same price for flac/mp3. I MEAN THEY DO ALLOW TAPING I ASSUME BC IF NOT SAYING THEY GIVE TO THEIR FANS WOULD JUST BE STUPID.

$16 bucks for a great live SBD recording vs. who knows how much for a neuman and deck to record the show..... you can record it and I'll compair the quality.

I think what it comes down to is a Bad choice of name for the sale of their live recordings.

Bootleg- something, as a recording, made, reproduced, or sold ILLEGALLY or without authorization: a flurry of bootlegs to cash in on the rock star's death.

I used to tape alot of shows and my taper friends would cringe if someone called one of their legal live recordings a "Bootleg".

It's not like this is the first tour Pearl Jam has done this for. Every PJ tour since 2000 has had official bootleg releases with the exception of a very few shows. For the 2000 tour, they were released as cd's sold in brick and mortar stores and broke some billboard records for the most cd's debuting on the album chart in a single week.

http://music.yahoo.com/read/news/12055527

In 2003, the shows were all released as cd's as well, but were only sold through the fan club. The tours since then have been all online sales and downloads. Yes, Phish, WSP, and SCI have all released a ton of shows, but Pearl Jam has been one of the innovators in releasing every show of a tour.

I was going to go to the Pearl Jam show in DC... until I saw the price. WOW, they are a very expensive band to see live. I would love to see them, but for a little bit more money, I can goto a festie. Rothbury!!!!

By the way, I would gladly pay 10 or 15 bucks to have a SBD of a show that I just saw. It is an option, not a requirement.

Hey they wouldn't do it if there wasn't a need or a desire by fans to want this done. They are providing sound boards for sale. If people want them they'll buy them. No harm no foul. I think it's cool the offer every show. Not every band is going to allow taping. As for there music, they have some great songs, and put on good shows.

"bootlegs" aside, i'm actually more mystified with the mobile/vcast thing. i don't understand how the band that took the fight to ticketmaster then teams up with verizon to pimp their tunes on cell phones.

I cant belive people are bitching about what they call a sound board recording, or the price of one. Live downloads, Ive paid up to $13 for a show, UM soundboards are about the same. Man whatever...I will always dig on PJ and respect the things they have accomplished. Instead why dont people bitch about Ticketbastard, or bands that dont offer any recordings at all!! Pearl Jam doesn't meet everyones expectations, lets be reasonable.

They allow taping put only for personal playback, i.e. no no trading. This is still a great program, after all SBD are superior and this no different from the instant lives that Phil offers or the Live Downloads that many great bands utilize.
