Hardly any mention of Volta= bad review. Obviously you dont get it
nice pics though
best place for a festy, but im real bored with those bands
Nice pics. Gotta disagree with the rodrigo y gabriela portion of the review. I think they'll be just fine in terms of "longevity."
umm. . . .. no review of modest mouse or mars volta????. . . .. . . crazy. . .. .
oh wait. . . . he calls the mars volta a meandering wall of noise in the battles review. . . . .. i suppose the reviewer doesnt like modest mouse either, cause their show review could replace. . .. . . oh, say. . .. .the 2 bands from seattle that got to play early day shows for their friends who came and just about no one else .. .(save the reviewer obviously) .. . .. . but dont pay attention to me im just full of hate today. . . . .. .
Mars volta, Rodrigo y gabriela, built to spill, Crudo (mike patton), and flight of the conchords. Only mentioned r and G, and BTS. Sad Review. Mediocre festival. Sasquatch and Bumbershoot are two of the most overrated fests in the U.S.
The Mars Volta is a lame "band" that do not even have the slightest clue as to what being musicians is about. I have tried so many times to get into this "band" their un-ability was stunning to me... I felt like I was watching a Tom Morello cover band with no musical back round. Its funny to me that some of these reviewers can even compare Volta to Modest Mouse, and to call anything overrated at The Gorge is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! You obviously were not there for Rodrigo y Gabriela or The Flaming Lips cause if you were you wouldn't have anything to say involving mediocrity. I can agree w/ being a little tired of some of the other acts including volta & plenty of other acts on the bill but I couldn't find much to complain about, much other than the asshole who denied me access to the closest honey bucket while on crutches w/ a broken foot and my i.d. being a mile away in my car...*%#! The Gorge Staff for NO RE-ENTRY!!
battles and rodrigo and G. other wise, I would still not go if you gave me a ticket. however, these kinds of indie bands have their merit, I am just not into it.
It seems like the bulk of Sasquatch these days is more concerned with hairspray than good music.
Great Photos Chris! Even if you disliked the review, surely there is something positive here, maybe now you can avoid this band or that band.
I too would have liked to hear how Modest Mouse is sounding these days.
People, people don't hate on the reviewer, it is obvious they are suffering from the epidemic that is rapidly spreading across the Northwest...beware the invasion of the cynical hipster. With a loathing for everything not black, tight or off key, the Northwestern hipster is a beast who hates everything outside of their limited, narrowed perspective. Why does Mars Volta suck? Easy, they aren't Battles.
Where are the hippies in the Northwest? Why is Portland so gloomy?
lawnboy.... wayne was seen on the side of the stage for the entire volta set in his pink shirt.. So your beloved Lips frontman gets the epic heights Volta reach each set... just give it some time, meditate with some albums, and you too will understand. Sucks about the staff being pricks though, sound like a bunch of nazis.
Mike Patton looks psychotic, i really want to see Crudo. He looks like he is in Bucket's old band Deli Creeps
Hipters do suck, but IMO HIPSTERS>HIPPIES. and they listen to better music than the hippies...
The word 'hippie' is derived from the word 'hipster.' Can't we all get along? Volta are artistic enough for the modern-aged hipster, yet their epic jams could splatter hippie brains in the best way. All the while they are still punks at heart, so they are officially all over the damn spectrum. sorry, i'll stop swingin from their nuts now
something tells me the reviewer is old as the hills, very safe and not into new ideas. REM critics band, explains everything.
The Mars Volta owns you face!
I forgot my dep hair gel before i left and what do you know all of central washington was sold out... there was no way i could show my face. I was forced to sell my ticket
decent write-up, solid pics. Big ups for mentioning The Moondoggies.
A word to those not on this message board: catch the Moondoggies when you can. They're sick as hell, super young, tight, spot-on with their harmonies. Great songs. Everything a modern band should be. A bit lost in the sea of local music that is Seattle, but I could totally see them going somewhere.
p.s. I like Mars Volta, Flaming Lips, AND R y G. Seen Cheese and Phish a buncha times, love Dumpstaphunk, Galactic, the Band, you name it. One of those rare "non-haters."
