Tea Leaf Green to release Raise Up the Tent on 7/22

Tea Leaf Green
"We'll raise up our tent in any town that will have us..." declares the new studio album by San Francisco's Tea Leaf Green. Produced by David Lowery (Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven, Counting Crows, Guster), the album presents eleven, well-crafted songs that tempt the listener to set off on the archetypal American adventure.

In times past, you could run away and join the circus or ride the freight trains, and Tea Leaf Green offers the same seductive pull to today's kids. Sharing some of the style and substance of musical contemporaries My Morning Jacket, Wolfmother, and the Raconteurs, Tea Leaf Green conjures the spirit of bands like '70s Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and The Grateful Dead, taking classic sounds and giving them a present-day polish. Tea Leaf Green reminds us at every turn just how alluring rock 'n' roll can be.

Tea Leaf Green consistently delivers mind bending live performances to their loyal and ever-growing fan base. Nightly, the band explores the depths of their prodigious songbook, taking everyone along for an exhilarating ride.

In a few short years, these road warriors have built a strong following, consistently filling venues across the country and becoming a warmly received, go-to band on the festival circuit with stand-out performances at Bonnaroo, Wakarusa, 10K Lakes, and The Echo Project, among others. The band's chops earned the respect of their contemporaries and they have shared the stage with The Dave Matthews Band, Trey Anastasio, Gov't Mule, Bruce Hornsby, John Popper, Bob Weir, Sean Lennon and many others. Experience Tea Leaf Green for yourself... and enjoy the journey.

I heard them at Bonaroo last year and I don't know If I was just a heat stoke victim, but I think I need to hear them again in another environment before I comment more.

so is reed mathis coming back into TLG or are they going to have another bass player?...........i never quite got that announcement, if he was just filling in or if he was permanent......with so many other projects he has had i don't see him being full time bassist for TLG (though for now that'd be fine, because i can't wait to see him play with them)......so is he going to tour with them this summer, did he play on this album?......i think jacob fred is touring so i guess that would answer me, but i'm hoping to catch them soon and will be getting the new album for sure......anyone know who'll be playing with them if its not reed?

Steve Adams from ALO was filling in for Reed while he fulfilled his touring obligations with JFJO, but he's the full time bassist for TLG now, and he plays on this album.

right on!.thanks man, i was hoping for that answer...........still shocked by it, but thrilled as well....can't believe that he's either 1)giving up jacob fred or 2)going to have enough energy to do both bands.........i love watching him play and love TLG so can't wait to see them together....

Good news....many have been waiting!! This band is very solid, and I would be surprised if Reed decides to focus only on JFJO (they are awesome) as this seems to be a very FUN outlet for him!!! I have only seen them with Reed in Amsterdam and it exceeded my extremely HIGH expectations. If any are in the Central Sierra (or within driving distance) during Halloween....go to Las Tortugas...you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Wagsincarolina, I guess the heat must have affected your senses because TLG late night set at Bonnaroo was about as good as it gets.

I can't wait to hear this album! They recorded this immediately right after their NYE run. I was shocked that they were heading into the studio so soon, considering they had only been playing with Reed for a month. "Raise Up The Tent" is a line for the song "Keeping the Faith".

TLG RULES!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOO........haha, ok cheerleaders, I have yet to see them with a new bassist, any comparisons, between Ben C. and Reed? How will planet of green love or other songs like Franz or georgie p. ever be the same? Gimme some input.

DibS - i saw TLG in Indy back in Feb. with Mathis. Its was probally the best TLG show ive ever seen. The Jazzy effect and stage presense of Reed is unreal. It makes the songs you mentioned better.

Good shit! Can't wait for this baby to come out. TLG will rule the planet in 5 years!

And to answer a previous question, they no longer play Planet of Green Love, or Not Human, or Snoop, or any of the other songs that Ben C rapped on, at least not yet. However, Josh has not completely dismissed ever playing POGL again, as the jam is sick. (actually, for their fillmore show on 2/29/08, Ben came out for the encore and they played POGL, but they haven't played it w/o him)

As far as Franz and Georgie P, they are still awesome tunes, but Reed gives his own flavor to them. It's different than what Ben did, and good, but still in a little unfamiliar way. However, Reed definitely pushes the rest of the band into territory that they weren't exploring previously. He's really really good.

Franz Hanzerbeek is a totally new song with Reed Mathis laying down the groove. He was obviously the missing piece in the band and they are ready to get nasty all over the place this summer. I was also at Summercamp this past weekend and they tore it up! Their late night set was amazing! I'll see them again in PHX on 6/12.

I love hearing peeps ask "Is their new bass player any good" etc... LISTEN TO ANY JACOB FRED and you will understand why Reed is such a badass, has been a badass since JfjO were playing to empty jazz clubs years ago, and shall continue; weather its TLG, Fred, or any other ensemble he chooses (while making his classic Reed Orgasm Face along the way!)

The album is coming out for my birthday! Literally... 22nd July. Hooray.

Here is a link to one of their new songs, Red Ribbons.

http://media.tealeafgreen.com/albums/raise-up-the-tent/red-ribbons.mp3

These guys have something like 200 songs in rotation. Maybe 175. They blow my mind. I listen to electronica and they always get me goin.

Anyhoo..

Reed Mathis is, easily arguably, on of the greatest living bass guitarists anywhere in the world. His knowledge of music, as well as pauses, will put him far ahead any other bassist. I like Ben. He is a great guy. But damn.... the sound is much richer and more deep now, I think. But I have only been into TLG for 5 years, and have been watching JFJO for 13 years now (which is creepy.. holy cow)

red ribbons is not a new song. com'on, for someone who's been into TLG for 5 years should easily know that!

Long Live The Legend of Ben C.

and as far as I'm concerned TLG became simply Tea Leaf, once Ben C. left. even if Reed is arguably more skilled, he does not have the stage presence that Ben had. Sorry.

Red Ribbons isn't exactly an old song either NickSoda. It is one of their newest for sure.

Great studio cut of it as well! These guys definitely deliver a different listening experience on their studio albums vs. their live shows...which starts to show you how many sides there truly are to this band.

Josh Clark rips it on guitar...Trevor writes amazing music and is a great musician, Scott lays it down on drums...and Reed and Steve are fitting in with this band, and pushing boundaries like never before.
