NEW ALBUM FROM BELOVED AUSTRALIAN IMPORT
ARRIVES IN AUGUST

Dark Shades of Blue
Best-selling Australian singer-songwriter Xavier Rudd is set to release his seventh album, Dark Shades of Blue, on August 19. Confirmed appearances at the Jazz Aspen Snowmass and Bumbershoot festivals in August and the Austin City Limits festival in September will bookend a headlining tour that will find Rudd bringing his live performance to cities across the U.S.

Dark Shades of Blue is dusky and cool, more sober than any of his earlier work. Guitar-driven jams expand on a sound only hinted at on previous releases, and distortion often supplants the pretty jangly guitars he's known for. Mixed by Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age), Dark Shades of Blue shows Rudd at his most assertive, heavy and psychedelic, and while Xav's signature didgeridoo remains, along with myriad other instruments and voices, the results are less 'world music' and something more universally global.

The past few years have been a whirlwind for Xavier. In between sold out tours in Europe, Australia and the US, both headlining and supporting the likes of the Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson and Ben Harper, he has been working on the film score for fellow-surfer and Rudd-enthusiast Matthew McConaughey's Surfer Dude, a film starring McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and Willie Nelson.

Xavier live is off the effing hook. This album sounds really great, and I know Joe Baressi will make this album pretty dark and heavy. His work with Tool is awesome. I can't wait for this album.

"more sober than any of his earlier work." ???

you have got to be kidding!~~~~ come on, all his work is very lucid and sober.

He is a great artist, with wonderful and meaningful songs. Much thought was put into each of his releases.

i saw the raindance at hornings, there dancing in the sand with xavier....it WAS absolutely amazing.......but i get what milesgone is saying....he's always been slamming LIVE....from when he was solo with just the guitar, diggs, harmonica and footbox to now with a 2nd drummer, distortion, and expanded drum set......but compare solace to what this is described as and there will be a difference.....probably like his live act now he'll have more heavier stuff on this album than previously....

.

though i agree that each and every song on every album is a creation that stands on its own and is truly a work of art with so much meaning.........

.

if you have not caught on to him yet do yourself a huge favor and see him live, you will NOT be dissapointed...
