Trey Anastasio Gets Reduced Sentence for NY Drug Charges

Trey Anastasio
As we've been following the trials and tribulations of Trey Anastasio we have a new chapter to share. As Forbes.com is reporting, Big Red received a reduced sentence of three years' probation following his successful completion of a treatment and counseling program.

Anastasio entered a guilty plea to a felony charge for possession of a controlled substance (painkillers) after being pulled over in December 2006 for driving erratically. The 43-year-old Anastasio's sentence was reduced to a misdemeanor because of his upcoming completion of the drug program and subsequent hours of community service. Had he failed to complete his program he was looking at three years in jail. Anastasio served two days in jail earlier this year for missing a drug counseling session.

Trey currently has one show scheduled for the summer on August, 2 at the Newport Folk Festival in Newport, RI where he will perform solo acoustic.

At first I was very excited by this news, Trey is now on probation for three years and can leave new york and do things again. However my fear is that he's not completely clean, goes back on road gets busted and goes to jail for a long time. So I hope that our pal is better and ready to play for us all again, I just hope this wasn't jumping the gun too soon.

You can always tell, it's the youngin's who want a tour. Peeps are begging for a tour, like they never put on a tour before. You missed the 21 years of touring minus the hiatus. Deal with it. Dont beg for it. They've been there and done that.

It's great to see Trey alive and healthy. Play if you want Big Red!

Anyone who saw a good number of shows the last few years knows that the unlikely reunion tour will be far off because it took them years to all find the same wavelength and they should have enough pride not to comeback and put on mediocre shows like we saw on many nights before the break up. Trey needs to worry about staying clean and that typically means staying off the road. I would rather see him healthy than in concert. Thanks for all the memories. We'll all still be here when your good and ready.

Trey should stay off tour for a long while, play a show here and there and get his shit together just like Jerry should have done. Trey will be with us for years to come. Don't push him. But as a sidenote, I would much rather Phish get back together than SCI.

Wow, Jenny you sure don't look like a baby puncher. Dave love the haiku, but you too with the kids huh?

I agree with most everyone, that a reunion tour would suck. Maybe I think that cause, after my first show I knew Phish was on to something good, and I busted my ass to see as much as I could, knowing it would end one day. You won't find moments in a box.

I only wish Trey good wishes in all that he does. I will interested to hear what an accoustic set of tunes will sound like. I agree with bksfg4 healthy is key, and thanks for all the memories.

"Good news for the youngins though, phish did spawn a whole new generation of sub-par wannabee noodlers that you can tour with, so you've got that going for you."

HAHAHAHA! Right on, denverguy!

OK, Trey got a reduced sentence, so naturally it's time for him to get Phish back together and hit the road! yeah right. I just got done with rehab myself, and let me tell you I am not ready to start going back to playing gigs at bars like I was doing. That shit is hard, yo! Give the man some time, ya'll. Phish will play again. I guess I'm lucky I first saw Phish Fall Tour '94. "Good Times, Bad Times, you know I've had my share!" Good Luck, Trey!

No, it wasn't a good thing that they inspired a bunch of shit bands, like your cheese, it was a terrible thing, but it was inevitable. As far as you saying that chesse has twice the jam power, I don't even know how to respond to that its so ridiculous. And isn't Jason Hann the percussionest they got to sound more like Panic? Has that band ever even had an original idea?

But haven't you ever noticed that Kang's ukelelee (sp?) thing looks like a litte version of Trey's Languedoc guitar? Hmm.. Not to mention he totally rips off trey in every one of their "jams".

- First off its called a MANDOLIN. And 2nd of all...will you just leave. you sound like a 12yr old girl to be honest.

DenverGuy- Kang plays a mandolin and Jason Hann does NOT make the band sound like Panic at all. After the ukelelee comment, I have lost all respect for your comments and your music knowledge. You now have no credibility in my book.

Someone stop minding the gate over on the Phantasy Tour forums?? Good grief people. If I want to join in the "my band is better than your band" debate can someone tell me what the unit of measurement is for Jam Power?

Apparently the formula is 2P=SCI, is that right? Is there a metric conversion for determining the Jam Power of Canadian bands?

Jenny, sorry that some of us are younger... it's not our fault. Actually, I prefer being younger (sucks to be old huh?) Good for Trey, I hope he stays clean. Being a friend of many junkies, I know it's a difficult process. As for a tour, I think that for what they would charge, it wouldn't be worth it.
