This is the first time I'm missing Bonnaroo in four years, and when I looked over the schedule I got a little wistful at the musical moments I'll be missing. For those that bad mouth this festival, which has its problems & challenges, I'd point out that without moving your chair for most of the day you could sit at one stage on Thursday and watch Back Door Slam, Grupo Fantasma, The Sword and Lez Zeppelin. On Friday you could plant yourself and watch Drive-By Truckers, Umphrey's, Les Claypool and Willie Nelson. Saturday you could catch Two Gallants, Against Me!, Mastadon and Zappa Plays Zappa in one spot. Sunday it could be The Lee Boys, Robert Randolph's Revival, Solomon Burke and Derek Trucks/Susan Tedeschi Soul Stew Revival. And that's just one option of myriad combinations possible. The level of talent - regardless of the headliners - at Bonnaroo is unreal. If you can't find TOO much to enjoy then I'm a little sad for you.

Bonnaroo isnt what it use to be, but still has some decent acts. I kind of wish I was going.

I'd go if I won the contest, otherwise im happy I'm not going, thursday would be alright all the bands I would wanna see are on the same stage, battles and MGMT. everything else i would want to see is conflicting with something else I would want to see.

Bonnaroo to Rothbury to ACL

I'm going this year. there are some conflicts: will have to miss les claypool and acoustic phil but other than that--pretty sweet. Thursday is the sleeper of the weekend: Grand Ole Party, Felice Brothers, and Dark Star Orchestra all on one stage. Fucking sick!!! Friday: DBT, DSO, Raconteurs, Chris Rock, Super Jam, tDB. Saturday: Mason Jennings, Frankenreiter, Ozo, BB King, Jack Johnson, Pearl Jam, Phil. Sunday: kinda light day--Yonder Mountain, Robert Plant/Krauss, and WSP....what a weekend

I think the conflicts have been way worse in years past. The big ones for me would be Phil and Sigur Ros and MMJ with Biscuits. It is just too far from Maine for me to make the trek again. Waaaayyyy to hot for me too.

bonnaroo has always been about what you had to miss too see what you saw.....line-up gets better every year. thursday is a not miss with MGMT and the battles; and then to end the whole weekend with broken social scene. i can't fuckin' wait!........if your bitching about bonnaroo, then you need to visit a record store!

so drive by truckers UMPH, Claypool, Willie, doesnt get you going? Then getting really crazy and seeing MMJ and walking over and grooving to some disco. thats pretty sweet to me. I cant wait for this my 6th year in a row. i am seeing sigur ros over phil, but guess what? i still get to see probably two hours of phil anyways because it is bonnaroo, and there are no rules for performers and they will play untill the sun comes up. Fuck ya. not to metion seeing pearl jam, sharon jones and the dap kings, gogol bordello, BB King, the wood brothers, robert randolph, and on and on. hope to whoever is going on here, to have fun, smile and dance. LIVE MUCIC.

nice. No big conflicts (as far as i'm concerned). That's a first. Kind of wish there was a bit more than two hours of space for Pearl Jam though but what can you do? Whatever they play will be followed by Phil all night!

Rainking04 Thu 5/22/2008 01:29PM
+3 Votes Thumbs down! Thumbs up!

weird...all of the really long late night sets are coming from the older musicians. PBS, Phil and Friends, Dumpstaphunk, and New Orleans All-stars are the longest sets of the whole festy. What's up with that? not saying it's a bad thing I just wonder if the festival was looking to give those sets or if those were the only bands who wanted long late night sets. If it's the latter these young bands playing 2 hour sets need to take some notes from their elders on how to keep jamming as long as they can

Yes, their are amazing bands playing at bonnaroo, but their are too many stupid ass sucky indie bands here. WAAAYYYY too many. They need more bluegrass and jam, and less suck. Also their are WAAAYYYY too many hard rock bands here...Pearl Jam is awesome, so they can stay, but Metallica, and Kanye come on, get fuckin real.

Wow, now I totally wish I was going. While it is the gallant jamband festival of its hayday, Bonnaroo is still a great eclectic mix of music. Like Sunday on the What Stage: Israel Vibration -> Yonder Mountain -> Plant & Krauss -> Widespread Panic. That is both awesome and all over the place genre-wise.

Again, the biggest a-holes on the scene think that they have some right of eminent domain. Music is for those who enjoy it. For those who don't, save your trash mouthed comments. It doesn't matter where you learned about music. What counts is that it matters to you. It doesn't matter where you buy the band shirts. What counts is that you are supporting the band. Unfortunately it matters when certain people come in and stink up a scene with their elitist attitudes about who the "scene" belongs to. Also unfortunately, it is no ones place to define who belongs and who doesn't. And, yes, that includes drunken frat boys and grungy a-holes that think that just because they have seen (insert band here) more times than someone else, it gives them the right to be judge, jury and executioner. It's so funny that the people doing the most bitching about the state of the world today are doing the least in terms of improving it. GO SEE LIVE MUSIC! (and mind your own f'ing buisness)

There are so many conflicts this year, and so many overlapping and back to back shows that I absolutely must see. I'm gonna be running all over the place this year. But late night Sigur Ros? Holy crap. Let the planning begin:

big ups to rhythmic_randomness for that comment. anyway, i went in 04 when i lived on the east coast and it was fantastic. i was a little skeptical about this year after seeing bands like metallica and kanye as headliners and certain conflicts in previous years but now i am so bummed i'm not going. fri: drive-by, umph, stephen marley, claypool, state radio, chris rock, mmj, bisco. sat: wood bros., donovan, sharon jones, ozomatli, bb king, jack, pearl jam, phil, talib and chali 2na. sun: robert randolph, robert plant, dirty dozen, wsp. definitly worth it if you ask me.

Bonnaroo was one of the best experiences of my life, each of the three times brought something new to light in my life. Each time I went was a different kind of awesome. However, this lineup is lame. What happened to the good old days. CHRIS ROCK IS TAKING UP THE BIG STAGE WHEN DESERVING BANDS SHOULD BE PLAYING! Stay in the tent dude. I just wish the headliners weren't playing such weak sets. 2 Hour sets from a headliner is ridiculous!? I am very appalled by the past two years line-ups and how they've crapped on the faces of all the bands that made Bonnaroo into what it is today.

I will retort and say to all of you going for the first time or second please tell me you are not going just to see Kanye or Metallica.(Those individuals probably don't sign up for a site like this). They are talented at what they do but do not represent the true vibe that is now lost. ANYWAY HAVE FUN! BRING SUNSCREEN! PLENTY OF WATER! RAIN GEAR (BOOTS!)! AND CANNED BEER! I HOPE IT CHANGES YOUR LIFE AS IT CHANGED MINE THREE YEARS IN A ROW!

Why must they schedule the SuperJam the same time as MMJ!?! So fucking frustrating. I don't want to leave MMJ, but the SuperJam is the ONLY show that I would leave early to see. Decisions, decisions, decisions. Either way it's still gonna be a blast.

damn...after seeing the lineup and not being too excited, this schedule is very awesome. thats wat was always great about roo. running from which stage to what tent? then catching a quick set at the solar stage, grabbing sum grub and a brew, then heading over to catch an acoustic set. it will be a great experience this year, ill miss hangin on the air chairs and gettin sprayed with the water fans. only boo about roo...its too massive, and camping far away from the stages hurts.
