Shakori Hill Grassroots Festival :: 04.17.08 – 04.20.08 :: Silk Hope, NC
Each spring as the sun awakens and the flowers start to bloom, music men and festive females gather in the woods of central Carolina to commune, commingle and cavort at the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance. For four days the stages come alive with music and dance from across the globe in one of the first festival of the season, as the cobwebs of winter are discarded for the promise of sunny days ahead.
Now celebrating ten successful festivals, Shakori Hills offered a relaxed and comfortable weekend overflowing with vibrancy and new musical discoveries. JamBase brings you this photo essay from a collection of photographers who took part in the weekend. Shakori Hills occurs every 6 months, so keep an eye out for the fall festival.

Go See Live Music!
i would luv to make it to one of these
here is the whole set of my photos from Shakori Hills Spring 2008 ...
If you are looking for a mellow, laid back festival where the music is what's important, Shakori Hills is the one. Such a diverse lineup, you never know what you are going to see next. Highly recommended.
It's kind of interesting that some of the coolest stuff on this site draws the least comments. These are some of the best photos posted here in years, sure wish I was there. Seems like an ultra cool vibe and great music. Saw Donna The Buffalo a few nights ago and they were fantastic.
oldking, I took a moment to peruse your set- very nice work, thanks for posting the link. You really captured Jeb from Donna The Buffalo nicely.
I am looking forward to July 17-20--The Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival (put on by the same folks)takes place outside of Ithaca, NY that weekend. First time going and seems like it should be great. Glad Jambase gave this festie some press.

Honestly this year I was having so much fun I didn't nearly take as many photographs as I did a few years back...hope you enjoy!
I absolutely love the Grassroots Festival in Silk Hope, NC. It has become a wonderful warm-up to Merlefest for me. Even with what appeared to be a large jump in attendance this spring, Shakori Hills has managed to maintain a wonderfully intimate and inviting atmosphere. I was really surprised by Arrested Development; I remembered this group from way back but had never witnessed a live performance. They were incredibly fun! Also, the combination of Cyril Lance, Jeff Sipe, and Johnny Neel made for a fantastic musical journey. Furthermore, David Dyer & The Crooked Smile Band are amazing. These guys need to be on the big stage for sure. Lastly, as much as I would prefer this festival stay small, I highly recommend it! Some of my favorite shots from the 2008 spring Shakori can be found here:
