ROAM AROUND BEHIND EXCITING NEW ALBUM
South Austin Jug Band by Anna Webber |
The South Austin Jug Band has grown way beyond its traditional roots with their smart, nimble-fingered originals and a choice Beck cover ("Jack-Ass") on its new album, the self-produced Strange Invitation, released April 1 through R.E.D. Distribution.
Strange Invitation was written as the band holed up in New York City's infamous Chelsea Hotel, where both Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison absorbed the atmosphere and the site of the infamous Sid & Nancy stabbing. The album was recorded all-analog at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio outside Austin.
The hard-touring and award winning band - lead vocalist-lyricist-guitarist James Hyland, championship-winner Dennis Ludiker (mandolin and fiddle) and multi-instrumentalist Brian Beken (Suzuki-trained fiddler, guitar) backed by Matt Mefford (bass) and Rob Kidd (drums) - will make stops on the upcoming tour in Berkeley, Salt Lake City and major festivals like Wakarusa in Kansas and Strawberry Music Festival in Yosemite.
