"The Capitol Hill Block Party is a huge, two-day explosion of bands and a great opportunity to see the most exciting new music from the best music scene in the country all while supporting great non-profit programs like The Vera Project and Home Alive." -The Stranger

The 2008 Capitol Hill Block Party takes over Seattle's South Capitol Hill neighborhood July 25-26 with its best lineup yet. The Block Party is an annual music festival that draws upon and showcases the best indie and underground rock in the U.S., with a special focus on its Northwest artists. Launched 11 years ago, it has evolved into one of Seattle's most anticipated outdoor music festivals. With over 50 bands on four stages, great food, and plenty of cheap beer, this is one of the best parties of the summer.

Partial proceeds from The Block Party benefit two excellent non-profits: Home Alive, which encourages violence prevention, and The Vera Project, a youth run all ages venue and recording studio in Seattle.

Tickets for The Block Party go on sale Friday April 18, 10:00 a.m. The Block Party continues to be one of the least expensive festivals in the country, with tickets only $18 in advance and a two-day pass for only $34.

The Builders and the Butchers kick serious ass. Super high-energy creepy gospel-folk. One of the more fun shows I've seen in a long time.

i love the fact that you can have one song that MTV way overplays and all of a sudden are top bill at festies. vampire weekend are lame and next year at this time no one will have any idea who they are.

i wonder if we'll ever get past the "i'm too scared of different music to realize it's good, so i'll make fun of it even though i know nothing about it" phase and actually have some decent discourse on this site. my guess is no, but i remain strangely hopeful.

dont know much about these bands, but Les Savy Fav played down here at my college this past weekend. they are absolutely terrible, and somebody needs to convince some of these "indie" acts or whatever you want to bill them as; weird is not necessarily artistic. get your chops up

Vampire Weekend is pretty damn good and their entire album (not just the 2 videos on MTV2 b/c MTV really doesn't play much music) is really good. Chromeo is also the shit, very funky stuff.

moejoe-you're probably right about the civil discussions about new music, which sucks because there is way more good new music out there if you look. Eventually these kids will grow bored of the super "crunchy" jams and their taste's will mature over time. Hopefully...

Again---why do people assume that just because you dont like a band you;ve never heard of them. MoeJoeRisin: i've listened to more music than you could possibly imagine so so try to pull that crap with me.

you got me quiverin' in my boots tough guy. it may not be true for everyone but way too many people just rag on stories when they see anything to do with the indie scene.

That vampire weekend disc is catchy as hell and I had a hard time getting it out of my CD player when I first got it. At this price it would be worth it to go see just the Holdsteady and Vampire Weekend. At this price how can you go wrong, sitting outside drinking beer on the weekend, the other bands would have to be absolutely terrible to ruin that price.

if you are in seattle, for $34 it's probably worth going just to see girl talk, akimo and chromeo...i'm sure there will be more to love there too, i just don't know any of the other artists. that's a nice lil cheapy one for you seattlers!
