Really dude? Talking down on Santana...come on now. As far as I'm concerned he can rock out to whatever the hell he wants. He's earned the right. Great pics...he looks like he's still having a great time up there.

im agreeing with cookiepuss santana has turn into a no good sell out. Santana is one of the greatest guitar player. but doing macy's comercials and playing with that nickle back guy it is not the santana. The old santana would of took the new santana behind the playground and whoped his ass. I know I like it better when he didnt speak english.

To all who think Santana is a sell out think about this. When a person in music gets to a level that they can sell other products other then music they become a sell out. Wrong, that to me shows they have paid there dues and can now play with out worry about how he/she is going to feed his/her family and pay his bills. Any struggling artist should be understanding of this. Judge not, Before you judge yourself.

I went to two shows in 1994. same set. both times.

thats really lame for a legend with so many songs he COULD play. don't u think? thats my only bitch.. he is a legend, he is great...

The J-man

Since when can we not be critical of a legend... He may be exactly that, a legend... But if he plays the same set continuous, that's a bummer.

Let's see . . . One of the greatest guitarist ever, been selling out arenas for DECADES. Invented a genre, made some really good songs with some pop singers (yeah I said it!), can play whatever HE wants!!

Maybe he likes playing the songs he's playing?

I've seen Santana about ten times over the years. And guess what? He always plays whatever new songs where on whatever album he just released. So maybe he plays the same set list in a given tour, but he sure as hell hasn't been playing the same set for 20 years. That's just false.

There's nothing wrong with criticizing anyone. That's partially why these boards are here. But show some respect. Santana owned it at WOODSTOCK!!! and still owns it on stage 40 years later.

One more thing, every rock band that has a percussion player (STS9, umphrey's . . . ) Santana was the first, and they owe him that debt. And his triple threat percussion section still lays it down heavier than anyone else in the business.

I was at this show and witnessed some of the greatest musicianship ever. Santana's percussion section is unbeatable and he even gets dennis chambers to tour with him. If you think he's a sellout, then why did derek trucks agree to open for him? Santana is not washed up, It was only a few years ago that he cleaned up at the Grammy's. If you ask me, its wonderful that he's actually bringing some sense and respect to today's pop music.

Same show for 20 years because it's timeless WILL last forever. Great stuff...should have nabbed a few pictures of Dennis Chambers...what a rediculous drummer he is, and for those of you at the show, notice how he never left his drum set, even when others took momentary breaks. Awesome...and Santana was much better than I expected, which is pretty f*cking AWESOME

I know these boards get some interesting opinions at times and I think everyone should be entitled to their own. That being said, you so called jambands fans that rip on musicians like Carlos Santana and Miles Davis (from the article a few weeks ago) are crazy. These guys layed the foundation for everyone else and need to be respected.

These are great pics. My only beef with a musician like Santana is when he comes to my town to play, they play too corporate of a venue. They'll be here this summer with Derek at the Ford Amphitheater and I vowed never to go to that horrible venue again. It was one thing when they made me pour my $12 can of beer into a cup before entering the floor area but then they made me do the same thing with a $6 plastic bottle of water. I might break my vow and go anyway cause I'm sure it will be a hell of a show.

Derek was amazing, everyone was sitting though it was a shame i never realized how much a dull crowd can ruin a show. No energy within the crowd, I feel bad for Derek and Santana, both played marvelous shows although Santana played a little too much of those MTV pop songs which are rather sketchy..

Sunnbear, you crack me up. Your quote, "Hey bill12, Do YOU speak english? It doesn't appear that you know how to spell or even form a sentence. Maybe the 12 in your name is your age? Maybe your just a dumbass!"

Isn't "your" suppose to be "you're" in you are.

Maybe you're the dumbass???

No setlist?

I was there. Not my favorite time. The crowd was ridiculous, all sittin' down for the DTB set looking at their watches. I mean, I'm not telling anyone what to like but seriously have some respect for a good band. Santana was ok. His band was great as always, but the singers liked like they had been taken from american idol, completely radio friendly santana. The crowd was the biggest downer here. But hey, to each her/his own.

This is an excerpt from a previous article back in November -

Carlos is talking about how he had received instructions from the angel Metatron, and to allow this to happen.

"So, my instructions were once you get into the center of the arena tell the world, invite everyone, to create a masterpiece of joy out of their life. Don't be slipping and sliding and shucking and jiving. My instructions through all of this was not to be concerned what people think, because people are going to say, "Oh, you sold out." I get a chance to be 60-years-old and to work with Kirk Hammett [Metallica], Yo Yo Ma, Justin Timberlake, Andrea Bocelli, practically anyone in the world from Buddy Guy to anybody who wants to share their heart with me. Why would I complain? All I have to do is just open my heart because they're bringing a song to me. Whether it's Chad Kroeger [Nickelback] or Rob Thomas, I mean, they write a song at home for me. All I have to do is be gracious and patient and grateful. Where I am right now is with the Ultimate Santana. It gives me a chance to do this."

It's a shame that some of you choose to talk negatively about such a wonderful soul.

Come on! The dude's like 60, give him a break. Can any of you haters even play a guitar? Do you think you could do better than Santana. It's hard to play a different set every night, which is one of the reasons I love jambands. But at the age of 60, it would be a much more difficult task. I hope none of you who hated are Phish fans cause Trey was greatly influenced by Santana (he even wears a hoodie like the legend does)

Didn't mean to set off a brushfire or anything. Santana is easily one of the top 10 guitar players of all time. I was just thinking that given the fact that he has produced such a prodigious amount of amazing music it is sad and disappointing that his shows are virtually identical even from year to year and decade to decade. Even the stage banter has been the same for at least 15 years like the intro to "Dancing in the Flesh," for example. Santana, I think, really blazes and demonstrates his enormous talent when he sits in with other people and is forced to improvise. That is where we can see that old magic and legendary stuff that has even been captured on recordings such as "Live at the Fillmore 1968." I live in Tucson and folks of all stripes lament that he has never come back to the city or played the State Fairgrounds that was an annual event for him until the release of Supernatural.

Something else that bugged me about this show was this atheist speech. He was like thats fine that you are atheists, but let me ask you this. How come after you make love you say "Oh my god?" I mean fuck, that just upsets me that he brings that shit on stage when we all payed to see him play some music, atheist or not. We didn't pay for him to give a religious opinion.

Great Pictures!!

Some of the comments here don't make sense to me.

Carlos is a master due all the respect he has earned.

He can play, say, do whatever he wants. If you don't like it, then don't show.

Like Jerry once said...I would have sold out a long time ago, but no one was buying.

Carlos optimizes America....FREEDOM!!

Hating Santana is like hating ice cream and blowjobs. What the fuck is wrong with you stupid assholes??! The man is a musical god. "He plays the same set for 15 years." How the fuck do you know? Did you see him every year for 15 straight? Probably not you cheap bastard.
