META-TRONICA 2.0 IN NEW YORK

Words can't describe what Kenwood Dennard does. He plays music that would be played by a machine. He owns patented drum licks, he performs things on a drum that makes me wonder if he is human.

Dennard, one of the music worlds most legendary performers has taught generations of drummers from Billy Martin (MMW) to Will Calhoun and contributed his mindboggling skills to the likes of Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, Sting, Wayne Shorter, and Maceo Parker (he's the funky drummah on "Life On Planet Groove"). His creditonals exceed the limit of you asking: Why haven't I seen this master yet?

Kenwood is a man of time. While many jazzcats from the 60's and 70's are still playing Bluenote and Birdland, Dennard is in the now. His emphasis on the new sound of live drum n' bass opens windows and opportunity for a man of his nature. In his new project *Meta-Tronica 2.0*, Kenwood teams up with Liquid Sky programming specialist Frank Heiss (aka TUBE) for a musical journey through the world of drum n' bass blending funk, hip-hop and eastern influences. Heiss has been part of the drum n' bass scene for many years in NYC spinning records since the early 90's. Frank is one of the top spin junkies on NYC best drum n' bass record label Liquid Sky.

Adding more fiery to the evening and opening the show will be Philadelphia's Brothers Past, a band that places an emphasis on layered, effects-oriented improvisation. While many of the bands experimenting in the electronic medium employ an entirely instrumental sound, Brothers Past continue to create their own memorable songs, complete with a blend of vocal harmony. They are currently mixing a live CD, entitled Elements, which will be released during the first week of September. This will be their final appearance at Wetlands until fall.

When it's new on the scene and hot, please don't touch---only look. Boston-based band MOONRAKER is very full in sound, putting much emphasis in sounding as a unit while lead singer Kelli Starrs' beautiful voice carries over live organic drum n' bass beats making the booty and eye candy a non-stop adventure.

In the lounge adds to the magic of this night. If you are a drummer, and you are out there or near here---this is your show. Sir Joe Russo (Electron, Fat Mama, Open Air Ensemble) teams up w/Justin Bolognino on Guitar (Loop Dreams) to make Learned Evolution, a new project for both of them which will be a highly improvisational set.

I'll tell you from first hand seeing Kenwood Dennard, there is no other place I would rather be on Saturday night. Welcome to the Kenwood show, the mans' first project with a new member in 8 years.

Come down to The Wetlands Preserve Saturday night. See him, meet him and be in awe.
