wonder if this will be like the two colorado shows with reed mathis and papa mali.. either way you'd be a major dum-dum if you go to jazz fest and miss this.

this years jazzfest at night is kinda lame....back before "the Katrina" every band that was touring would plan their tour around Jazzfest...not so much now.

i think with time Jazzfest will get back to where it was before "the Katrina"

biged I dont know what you are smoking but this night time jazz fest lineup is amazing. As a New Orleans resident there a multiple shows each night that I want to go to. There are a couple of the shows, such as Monday 28th at Tips that are just as good as any day at the actual festival.

Sounds pretty cool, but when I read the headline I thought it was gonna be JIMMY Page. No offense to Page McConnell, but that would've been way cooler.

On another note, all these night shows are great and everything, but JAZZ FEST takes place on the Fairgrounds Racetrack from 11 am until 7 pm. Get thee to the fairgrounds!

maybe now they can get to reforming Vida Blue, but Oteil's mad busy anyway, hopefully after the summer we'll see a Vida Blue reunion. I need some kind of Phix, damn it. And I aint talkin about a cover band, no offense, it just doesn't compare to the real thing. Yeah Page. I love you.

I totally agree with you. There are a lot of amazing shows this year. If I were going this year one I would certain check out is the 2:00 AM New Mastersounds show at the Blue Nile. Saw those guys a couple of weeks back in Baltimore.... They play the Meters better than the Meters. With mostly original material, this British band is in my mind carrying the Meters torch far more than Galactic ever did. Speaking of which I was also suprised to see 2 Galactic 2:00 AM shows at Tips. They usually backed off to about one a year and was usually the first Thursday night. The Rock & Bowl has some great mult-group lineups, the GBA are back in full form, instruments and injuns a comin' on the tweener nights, plenty of brass bands to get yer ass shaking, man I could go on and on. For me Jazz Fest has always been about the food at the Fair Grounds, a beer no earlier than 5:00 PM and taking your sunglasses with you to the 2:00 AM shows - repeat, and add medication as necessary. Hands down, regardless of the music that you like, this is the BEST musical festival in the WORLD and you get to shower every day! Any music lover should make it a prority to do this festival at least once in their lifetime... and do it right.

twain -- "guess you haven't heard much meters material! zigaboo baby"

On the contrary. I even have his Zigaboo.com album along will all of the re-mastered Meters albums. Not to mention seen his band on quite a few occasions along with both the original Meters and Funky Meters line-ups along with Leo's solo act. These guys are great, they started it all, but there are some young bucks out there giving their sound a run for its money. If you are really looking for that "fresh" old sound, give the New Mastersounds a try, check out Speedometer and even Lefties Soul Connection. Out of the three I prefer NMS, but Speedometer is good and Lefties (out of Holland) is fairly true to the Meters form as well.

Page's solo tour was amazing last year. It was one of the better shows I've seen. A class act.

twain -- Dig, dig.... Twist, turn. If you've been seeing the Meters for more than past 10 years, you'd have seen a lot of their exuberance fade over the years. In many cases it is rare to see a complete line-up of this band with the original members. Noting the impoper use of the adverb instead of the cunjunction wound lead me to believe that your overall experience with this band is probably more limited than what you lead on. Using the term kiddies more or less proves it. You stick to your guns cowboy. I'm sure you've always been right.
