STS9 To Release peaceblaster

STS9 To Release peaceblaster In July

STS9
1320 Records and STS9 are excited to announce that the band's much anticipated fourth studio album, their first in over three years, is rapidly nearing completion and on schedule for a July 2008 worldwide release which will coincide with their 2008 Summer Tour.

Aptly titled peaceblaster, the new album will feature a vast majority of never before heard tracks that artfully mirror the intensity of STS9's live shows while preserving the intricacy critics and fans touted with the acclaimed 2005 release of Artifact. Stay tuned for more details as we approach the release of peaceblaster.

Artifact is still one of my most played CD's. Let's hope Peaceblaster builds upon that. If it's anything like what they have played recently, I'd be thrilled.

my wife and i were JUST discussing last night that we have no bands that WE follow anymore that provide "that space" to simply dance and lose yourself in...........we lost the dead, phish and cheese....and then we thought of soundtribe and we both smiled and went to the computer to see and tour dates.....there were only like 4 or 5 listed at the time......now this comes out and totally makes my day........woo-hooo!!!!!

.

.

(and i know that for some of YOU bands like umph and disco do it for you, no diss intended, they just don't do it for me and NEVER tour near enough flagstaff for us to really get to know them)

larrydurango's comments about the umph kids brining too much hype I can kind of agree with but like only kind of. I live near Chicago so I catch Umph whenever they're around and I definately love me some Umph. There's some of the most talented musicians I have ever seen play music. Jake Cinninger and Kris Meyer are both f'n ridiculous at their instruments...nuff said. the rest of the band ain't too shabby either. Anyway, I saw umph for new year's '06 and at the show where North Mississippi All_Satrs opened for them, Luthur and Cody Dickinson, Chris Chew all throwing it down with some great open-ended classic rock jams and this kid to the right of me actually shouts "bring on Umphrey's!" or something like that which is not only disrespectful to ANY band, it's downright ignorant if he can't hear what great musicianship there is going on in North Mississippi All-Stars. And like, there's less of a cultural\ spiritual thing going on with the standard Umph crowd to some degree in comparison to the Dead or Cheese but in terms of the band themselves they're just amazing and most of their fans I would say don't reflect the spirit of a few rotten apples who can't see the forest for the trees in terms of good music. Most Umphreaks I've met know what's up. So I think the Umph hype thing is overall a little overplayed, I mean...sometimes it does seem like they get hyped a lot but is it really hype when they're as ridiculously sick nasty talented blowing shit up shooting bombs out of their instruments as they are? Like to each his own and there's no accounting for taste but I personally think every ounce of attention payed to Umphrey's McGee is justified.

That being said, same with Soundtribe and a shared STS9 Umphrey's bill would be an ocean of a wet dream for me.

Siked to hear what the new STS9 sounds like.

im interested in the new album, i hope they incorporate a lot of new sounds.

Looks like Umphreys is trying to go a little more electronic are they not? This is good news to me, as i dig the electronic scene (zilla, eoto, all the filthy breaks and the ones filthier than those) and think the jam scene gets a little vanilla. But im probably in the minority on that one, as i think most people dont like it when their fave bands start going electronic...i.e string cheese and zilla.

That would be terrible if they toured with UM. STS9 is way above them. UM is like teenie bopper music. Their fans are obnoxious too. I think that UM is identical to OAR and if anybody reading this likes OAR then you are a lost cause. New studio album though, that is going to be great!

theivywall thanks for the insight I too hail from Illinois so I jsut have to deal with more Umphreys talk than I like they are great muscians just a little to cheesey sometimes for me I guess with some of their cover song choices I have been to a few shows where the covers have really thrown me off..also to the comment that Ump is like OAR that is a terrible comparison Umph is original and continues to expand there sound unlike OAR they have continued to attempt to make all their songs sound the same although I do kinda agree that Umph can draw a teeny bopper high school crowd casue it's the cool thing to do crowd if you attend the Chicago or some of the other Illinois/Indiana based venues

Here's how I feel about umphrey's. I think that lately, they have been losing it. The reason being, is because they have been getting way overhyped. I think they have been trying too hard lately when they don't need to. I saw them a month ago for like the 10th time, and it was just different. I am a jam freak that loves when bands will jam out on one song for like 20 minutes dead and phish style. But lately, i don't think umphrey's knows when to end a song. They'll just keep pushing and pushing. And they'll push so hard that the song wont even be good anymore because they peaked it and should have ended it and now it's just straight up shredding noise. They know they are getting big and they probably feel they have to impress a new crowd now. Now don't get me wrong, I love my umphrey's. But, i miss the old days when they would just lay it down without a care about how big their crowd is knowing that people will appreciate their style. I also agree about the teeny bopper crowd for umph. I'm from minneapolis so they are pretty big here as well. And at the last show, there were just some weird ass vibes going around. Umphrey's is way better at a fest where the crowd actually appreciates a good jam when they hear it. Tribe on the other hand never fails me. Their shows just keep getting better and better. I saw them 2 months ago for like the 5th time and they just threw it down like none other! I hope the song they opened with will be on their new album. It is called Bigs and was one of the best entrances to a sound tribe show my ears have ever heard. I think it's cool that the two bands plan to tour together because it will help promote both of them. But that is also the problem. Cuz once the umph crowd hears how sick tribe is, they will start going to more tribe shows. and the chill atmosphere at an sts9 show will never be the same. oh and if you guys don't believe me about how sick the sts9 show i was at, here are the sets for you to download for all you tribeheads.

If this new album has 1103, Bigs, and some of the other new songs i've heard live its gonna be sick. The whole scene (Umph, tribe, moe, bisco, etc.) is getting too popular. I guess popular music is so terrible now more people are finding their way to the good stuff. I like that these bands are finally gaining recognition, but these new posers are wrecking our vibes at shows. Some dude tried to fight me at a recent moe show cause i bumped into him while vibing to "buster" - ridiculous!

This you can count on...STS9 and Umphreys will definately be together this summer and you will see dates in less than 2 weeks...watch out for their festival date (umphreys really liked what was happening at Regen and they have a nice spot picked out)...also, please don't hail STS9 as the bearer of any torch; they play eeriely similiar shows, especially of late. Their real good stuff was pre Artifact (who knows the Santa Cruz Hemp All Stars) and there are frankly too many glowsticks at their shows anymore. That being said, this album should rock- hip-hop meets Live at Home is what I've heard.

When I found STS9 a number of years ago I thought I was in for a long ride but have to say that for me personally, I prefer their older hippy sound with more melodic lines and simply more playing. I admire them a lot, but the scene has changed considerably; sorry to be blunt, but last time I saw them here in VT there was a ton of, for lack of better word, posing going on. I felt like I was at an Eminem show. I certainly don't mind bringing some hip hop influence in, but it seems to me that the Tribe has traded their identity. I'd rather listen the old live stuff. Just, like, my opinion, man.

Kick ass - I haven't been to a show at Roseland in years! I expect this album is going to live up to the hype, even though I think in the past the character of their sound has gotten lost at times in their studio work. Dr. Funkenstein are you actually trying to say that the Umphrey's kids don't know what's good with Sector 9? That's retarded I guarantee that every single Umphrey's kid knows what's good with Sector 9 and have seen them live multiple times.. and what chill atmosphere at Sound Tribe shows are you talking about?? The gangster hippies tweaking out and acting all weird? Sound Tribe is turning into straight up Hip-Hop beats, they never peak. They need to get back to the jam roots and stop acting so gangster.

STS9 just doesn't have that cosmic sound anymore, they traded it for the gangster shit. I don't even think they promote the 13 moon calendar anymore. The music they play now doesn't really fit the band name.. at all.

Both these bands are getting bigger which is why as commented above you see STS9 playing similiar setlists more often and why Umph may "try" to hard to jam for extended periods of time rather than just letting it flow. They are trying to draw in a bigger fanbase hence the summer tour together they are both going to try to gain a newer/larger fanbase so that they can step it up a notch as far as the venues they play...larger venues=more cashflow and many other anemeties. I haven't given up on tribe just yet I have been following them since 01 and there have definetly been some up and down points on my opinions of them and everytime I think they have lost me they have brought the heat with some new sounds and styles...It does suck when bands you have been following since the early days start to pull a larger fanbase which changes their general approach to shows etc. but that it the nature of the touring circuit. The Unquestionable Supremecy of the Touring Circuit

FlyAlergic. I guarentee you that you couldn't be more wrong. There's a difference between an umph fan who will follow umphrey's around the midwest when they are touring for appreciating the talent in the band and supporting the band to help create a large fan base through word of mouth like people did for phish, cheese, and dead. compared to a new age umphreys crowd just getting into umphrey's because their name is big now for opening for dave at alpine and they are the cool thing to do now. And just because people are on drugs at an sts9 show, doesn't mean that it is out of control. Sound tribe helps people get down with themselves and everyone zones into the true jam they are hearing while letting the music flow through the movements of their bodies. Everyone gets their own space and does their own thing. Although, it does feel good when cute girls with the glowsticks will rub up on you as well. At a tribe show, people know when to yell at the right moments to give the band props for raising their jam up another level. But otherwise, people are just groovin out and listening to the sick music. Now that's a chill environment. Go to an umphrey's show these days, and you'll have big drunk people just yelling stupid shit. And then they get pissed off at you for bumping into them when you're trying to groove out cuz they're standing still not dancing, they're just bobbing their heads, while holding up that symbol with their hands having their pinkys stickin out to create a U shape. I'm a fan of both bands that does see both bands. but i don't think i'll see umphrey's again unless it is at a fest cuz seeing them in a packed venue with a bunch of drunk high schoolers just sucks! Sts9 isn't turning into hip hop. If anything, hip hop should be influenced by them for holding down true beats. But if you're having trouble hearing when sts9 peaks. I just feel sorry for you. if you need some help though, try listening to the show i posted up. Check out Instantly around 6:50, Frequencies Peace 3 around 3:00, This Us around 2:00 the drummer just keeps it flowin, 1103 around 3:00, Kamuy (one of the best versions of it live i've heard) around 3:30 and then again around 6:00 after the stellar hand percussion solo (so nasty!), Somesing around 5:30, and how about Moon Socket around 4:00 and 9:15. Just a few to point out. It should help you :)

"Big drunk people yelling stupid shit"...?

I always talk to my neighbors at UM shows and they are very nice. When did going to a show require so much social commentary? Maybe its because I'm always by the soundboard, but this UM/teenie bopper image couldn't be more far from the truth if you talk to the fans that REPRESENT.

I'm excited about this album release. I presume the Biscuits will release whatever they've been working on the last few years around this time time too (but if you know how they work, nothing is ever guaranteed.) We'll see which of these two power houses emerges. My bet is Tribe in SPADES.

If I'm still in high school, how old was I when I saw Phish in '03?

STS9 is sick but whats with all the UM hate. They put together some really intricate pieces of music and at the same time can write a nice catchy "pop" style song. I fail to see why thats such a problem. I guess some of their fans are young and immature but I've seen them about 5 times in the past 2 years and never once had a problem in the crowd. Maybe I was too busy having my face melt to focus on some young bucks horsin around in the crowd. Just my 2 cents. Hate on if it makes you feel good about yourself though.

I like UM and STS9. They are both good shows and great musicians that can help each other up to new levels. But I have to agree that STS9 is way more hip hop then when I started listening to them. Also in the last tour I actually liked the UM show better musically than the STS9 show but there were a lot of big drunk people at the UM show that made it hard to get into the music and dance. But, I liked the long jams from UM, I thought it was the best I have seen them, brought it up to new levels for me. And, the croud was way better at STS9, a bit older, and just there to have a good time and dance. So, I pretty much agree with what everyone is saying but I think they are both great and I think it is a great thing to see them together, can't wait for the sit ins!

some of you guys are just damn silly to DIVIDE, on these bands.

what difference does it make? some like UM, some like ST, some like both.

who cares who likes what, for what reason? our reasons are ours alone, not anyone else's.

the crowd?? again, who cares? do you go to shows to see the crowd or the band? well?

flyagaric is right sts is still a bomb show. just a completely different sound than what they used to play. they stick to simpler beats rather than more complex rage marathons from their past. i like some of the new but most of the old. bring back some history or turn into a group of wiggers...the choice is yours

a group of wiggers...... haha you are a douche. and its not that their beats are simpler what so ever man, its that they are a lot more structured and way less drum and bass influenced these day. wiggers..... wow thats funny.

even though they aren't the most incredible musicicans, i definitely dig sts9, been to a bunch of their shows all over the country, have an extensive library of their live shows. but their crowd has changed man... i was just at their rothbury show. wow it was epic, they played forever, the ranch stage is legendary, but every other person i saw was a bearded grunged up 20 something with a dark hoodie and black bags under their eyes. and half of these gangsters were just there to say, " rolls, doses ", not even watch the music. i miss the freaks that wanna glow and dance on their drugs, not just stumble around in clothes that don't fit and look like their gonna puke on you while stealing your wallet.

good live music should be about partying and having a great time. don't know about you true fans, but when bands get straight funky, i'm laughing and smiling and dancing my ass off. and these guys are making me the minority.

the new cd sounds good though. but i don't really think their shows will be getting more fun. honestly, the umph fans might brighten the vibe a bit.
