SCI is average at best....I went to their final little run at Red Rocks last year, because it was supposed to be something special. Ended up leaving the first 3 nights early, because nothing ever really happened, and sold my ticket for the 4th night to some dude dressed as a fairy for 150 bucks. I was glad later because I heard that the 4th night sucked even more than the first 3.

ao1---Actually, I bought the tickets because I'll see pretty much anything at Red Rocks. It's the best venue on the planet and all you usually need to go is an excuse. But, very rarely am I completely bored like that at such a great place. Plus, the whole scene and vibe was strange, with people crying about SCI ending and wearing their little costumes and eating way too much Ecstacy. I went to about 10-12 shows at Red Rocks last summer, and I wouldn't put any of these in the top 5. However, it is Red Rocks, and if you haven't seen a show there, you haven't seen a show.

...and it worked out because I got all my money back for the first 3 nights by selling that clown the ticket on the last night.

that first comment on SCI owning the beacon is pretty funny. i'm a huge SCI fan, but saying they own the Beacon over the Allmans is ridiculous, even though the Allman Brothers aren't really the Allman Brothers anymore in my opinion. Gregg's a warrior and a survivor. Hope he gets back to feeling 110% soon. I'm definitely gonna miss the Brothers at Wanee, but it's still gonna be a great time as always. I can't wait to see what they come up with to fill those prime slots. Maybe Derek Trucks Band both nights now? Maybe a big fat RatDog 2 setter? Maybe, as speculated above, a superheady supergroup jam set? Maybe the kickass Dickey Betts Band will come fill a slot? (not gonna happen, but would be sweet!) Oh, the possibilities!

Well, I've been to two Wanees; first and second, missed last year for crap-a-Roo, have no interest this year now that Gregg's out (can't believe I'm gonna miss Levon Helm), and definitely look forward to next year. Its the best way I have spent my Birthday and look forward to it every year. As for Dickey Betts, he was an amazing member of The Bros. and his time ran up. Never question a decision like that; if you were ever in a band and knew what attitudes and alcohol and drugs can do to relationships then you would understand. I'm sure it was hard enough back then for Gregg to make that decision. But it's cool to know that Gregg is kicking that Hep C. Anthony Keidis has that $hit too, and I would hate to lose either one of these phenomenal legends. Get well Gregg. See you on the River in '09.

I saw the last show that Dicey played with the Bros back in 2001 (?) at Jazz Fest. As I recall he was having some (publicized) isues with drinking and slapping his woman around. Why this may be business as usual with the suthern crowd, as a national touring band thy di have a reputation to protect. I am very sure that his was a tough decision for Greg, but he made it. Derek trucks, nephewof Butch Trucks is the perfect replacement for Dickey as he is a BLOOD BROTHER. For god's sake Dickey was one of the people who taught him how to play the guitar. Get well Greg and I'll see ya soon!

The Allmans are playing the same shit as they have for the past thirty years. They started to suck after Duane passed and the aren't getting any baetter. Derek Trucks did not replace Dickey Betts in the ABB. Dereks first show with ABB was June 99. Dickeys last show with ABB was May 7, 2000. They both shared the stage during that time.

Jimmy Herring did summer 2000. Haynes joined back up with ABB March 2001.

yeah i caught them in raleigh a few months after dickey left and was pissed cause i had no clue he was gone!!!! I caught the ratdog/allmans star lake show and by the time the allmans came on i was a little foggy but i remember havin a good time!!!!!

My first thought was that they read who was actually to perform the festival this year, and were going to gracefully "Bow Out" of the scheduled show. Too bad that isn't the case.

I just talked to a friend in Murfreesboro and the new band is: Widespread Panic. He said someone was handing out fliers at the show and so it is only a matter of time before it is "officially" announced.

did you stay sat night to see the amazing lightening show during a great version of hotel window in Red Rocks? It was such a great set that GOD let us KNOW we were in the presence of greatness with an amazing natural event along side FANTASTIC TUNES, so he let us know!! What show do ou have that you can play the cd and hear the croud go OOOOOO AHHHHHH and cheer so loud. those shows were amazing, I saw all of them and would trade any ticket in the world to go back to those shows.

i miracled my tickets on Friday like we all should do once in our lives. I could have got 140 for my sunday ticket, like you but im not trying to rip off music lovers. I sold it for face value and i flew out from CA.

besides if you thought those shows weren't special and left early every night, you have no taste in music and are spoiled by yes, the greatest venue on earth. Love COlorado cept these over privileged people who think there doodoo dont stink and nothing is ever "that great" cause they get to go to red rocks every weekend.
