I hear ya FreeHawk. There really are a shit-ton of festivals going on this summer. If you don't get a chance to see Phil and Friends then you probably didn't get to any festivals because he's playing goddang everywhere. The market is flooded yet ticket prices continue to go up. Why don't the laws of simple economics apply here? What the F?

i'll probably be going to the first night of this since it is up the street from me, but will forsake the second day (and better supporting acts) so i don't have to deal with the dmb / john mayer crowd. and no disrespect, dlifhsen, but i think the likelihood of any of the roots guest performing w/ dmb is zero.

it happened the 2nd night of alpine last year. the entire roots band and blackthought came out and sat in on the song eh-hee. so you never know...

i hope jazz aspen snowmass (labor day weekend) has a good lineup this year

i agree with ya moejoerisin, i;ll prolly just hit up the first night. it'll suck to miss TLG and Martin Sexton, but not much of a DMB or John Mayer fan.

Love love love it...right on and right in my back yard!!!! WOW what a line up for both days....FYI...DMB and the Roots always jam together when they tour! Cant wait to see The Black Crowes jam with Luther.... Rod y Gab will be awesome as always I am sure.

This looks like a really festival, seeing as I live in Denver and its overmy birthday. But just a small warning- Commerce City is made up of a bunch of oil refineries and various other pollution spewing factories. Colorado is such a beautiful place, I do not know why they picked this area. Otherwise, should be great!

Lineup looks OK....a little too poppy and mainstream for me....but it should still be fun.....looking forard to Leftover, The Crowes, Winwood....Not so much for DMB or Mayer.....whatever.....should be a lot of money to be made there

Don't think there will be any on-site camping and you won't want to camp anywhere right near the festival grounds. This festival was originally slated to be held downtown in City Park, however, The Denver City Zoo spoke out against the festival and forced it to be moved out to the current location. I will still go, but I am boycotting the Zoo and I encourage you to do the same.

Can't wait for The New Mastersounds on Sunday afternoon!!! That's reason enough to brave the DMB/John Mayer crowd.

Looks like a decent lineup. But it seems odd, especially in a year when new megafests seem to be sprouting up each week, that Coran Capshaw would help create one that competes with Bonnaroo.

Capshaw, Dave Matthews' manager, founder of ATO records, owner of Red Light Management, and chief of MusicToday (even though he sold a controlling interest to Clear Channel), is also the head of Starr Hill Presents AND a company called Axis Concerts, LLC, a Virginia entity that serves as the financial arm of Bonnaroo.

i will still go to this but i am extremely pissed this is not going down in City Park. the whole point of this festival was suupposed to be a festival for denver molded after Austin city limits. the little bitches that live around city park complained that it would be too loud and destroyed what would have resulted in millions of dollars being pumped back into the park for beautification and renovations. complete idiots. but i will still go out to the sespool that is commerce city.

They can't do the festy in downtown Denver because the Zoo complained the noise would harm the animals (http://www.denverpost.com/search/ci_8102180) - what's wrong with you complainers that have to go 11 miles northeast?! Be happy Denver gets anything. The festy looks ok, but questionable for $150 when most of these bands come thru town regularly anyway, only to see them at Dicks with a rep for poor accoustics - hopefully they can do something to improve that.

It's not the neighbors around City Park, it's the Zoo right in the middle. It was determined that hte animals couldn't handle the stress of the music no matter how many sound barriers they put up. Main reason it didn't happen there.

Poor little furry refugees, i'd be pissed if i were locked in a cage and forced to listen to a few of these bands. City park was almost as poor a choice as Dicks. Was the rent to high at Invesco? It is the "Mile High Fest" after all. Denver parks are just not set up for this kind of crowd. There is nothing in Denver like Zilker park. Lodo fest was the Bomb!

I live about 10 minutes from the site, and there is not any good place to camp. If you dont mind driving about 45 minutes, you can camp out by Red Rocks. That would be the best bet. Unfortunately, commerce city and the surrounding areas won't be a pleasant place to camp - although I can't really say I agree with the Commerce City bashing going on already. I'll take a festi there over nothing any day.

you know whats funny now that i think about it. Umphrey's plays the green apple fest @ the zoo in Chicago and the animals obviously dont mind it! So why on earth did this prick from the denver zoo come up with this ridiculous excuse to not have this in city park.

and for those who asked, there definitely wouldn't be good camping directly IN commerce city, but like under 20 min. away? for sure. i'm talkin straight-up beauty like rocky mtn. nat'l park, arapahoe nat'l park, or like around keystone and you could just drive there.

if you dont mind driving into the mountains a little i would suggest looking around Blackhawk and central city there is some great places up there. Pickle Gulch is one of my fav's

Any drive to camping will be 40min+ as far as i know. RMNP over an hour... For the time and cost in gas just stay at a hotel near the airport like 5-10min away. you could almost walk from rennaisance.

good call wildturkey i tried to camp last time near red rocks(nuthin very close) for the first two nights of panics 3 day run last summer and finally my friends and I gave up and opted for a hotel,which saved time money and energy( althiugh the commando camping inside red rocks park the first night was fun, busted the second night, or morning rather... whatever). be safe and have fun at this festi kids

I am ALL FOR Denver finally getting a nice lineup like this, LODO Fest was always fun, but Commerce City??!?!?!?!?!?! HOLY SHITBALLS! What was the feed lots at Monfort Meat Packing Plant in Greely already booked for that weekend??? Seriously, there isn't a more UN-Colorado-like setting. I mean Red Rocks is THE MOST beautiful outdoor ampitheatre (The Gorge is 2nd) in the country and THIS is the location they found? At least the heavily poluted (OIL REFINERIES) air will be mixed with the sweet smell of KGB. Colorado does have some fine NUGGS and I expect that with the lineup they announced, there will be ALOT of green in the air.

Camping is NOT AN OPTION in Sketchville, USA (aka Commerce City)nor ANYWHERE near there AT ALL. Suck it up and get a hotel somewhere in the city. I wouldn't even stay at a (rent me for the month) motel in CC. Stay at the Ramada on East Colfax near the Filmore so you can rage at SANCHO's BROKEN ARROW before and after each show. You can thank me later if you've never heard of this fine Thinking Establishment. Then you can drive up and down Colorado Blvd to and from the show. GOT IT??? GOOD!!!

The lineup on Saturday is pretty sweet! Gordon getting added definitely makes it worth the price of admission, Fo Sho!

...looks like a little something for everyone. I may have to plan my CO trip to coincide with this festival. BTW, what the hell is with the NYT quote "regarded as a festival breakout hit"? This fest could suck balls if goes the way the first 'Roo did (3 days in traffic, unhappy campers, etc.). I think that praise should be given for their line-up (no Metallica, Kanye, etc.) but it should also be withheld until we see how the thing goes off...

I too am about about 10 or so minutes from the Park of Dicks, out where the tumble weeds roll free. I have to admit, Commerce City is kind of a pit and my first reaction to the news was "WTF?!" but the proximity makes complete sense. You're 15-20 minutes from the airport and about 10 minutes from downtown. I think I can deal.

The Dick's Sporting Goods Park is apparently one of the largest open fields in the US. I have no real sources of this, but that's what a friend of mine told me :)
