New Greyboy Video/Tour Dates

Puppet Masters
The Greyboy Allstars are in the midst of a warmly received resurgence. Their first studio album in nearly a decade, What Happened To Television? (SCI Fidelity/Knowledge Room Recordings, 2007), has been lauded by the likes of Entertainment Weekly, The Village Voice, NPR and The Los Angeles Times, who said it "feels so cozy and organic you never want to leave its inviting groove." Now comes the album's debut music video for "Still Waiting," featuring Inara George. Directed by Josh Hassin and Matt Goldman, the video is set in a juke joint populated entirely by puppets.

The juke joint theme was inspired by a infamous Ernie Barnes painting, "Sugar Shack," from the credit sequence of the 1970s sitcom Good Times. To re-create the scene with puppets, director Matt Goldman went to his friends at the Philadelphia-based collective Monkey Boys, whose founder, Scott Hitz, then assembled a crack team of some of the East Coast's most accomplished puppeteers, who, collectively, have worked with Jim Henson Studios, Crank Yankers, Sesame Street and Avenue Q, among countless other internationally acclaimed broadcast and theatrical projects.

"We feel very fortunate to have hooked up with Monkeyboys," says Goldman. "One day we're holding an insanely ambitious treatment, and the next we we're in a room with the greatest puppeteers we could imagine. Everything just fell into alignment."

See the innovative, highly entertaining video HERE.

"Another act skips Boise, I'm bummed."

I know Boise is one of the fastest growing cities in the West but are it's kind of off the beaten path... . But hey, Boise claims Built to Spill and they're bad ass!

Nice. Humboldt gets some love, and the Creole Queen show for the Fest will be awesome! Will be nice to check them out at the Highline Ballroom, too, should be my first show in this relatively new NYC venue.

GreyBoy is pretty good, but it all sounds the same IMO.......... I think Karl Denson's Tiny Universe is where its at, if you have never seen him back in the days then I guess greyboy is the way to go.....

Good to see the change of pace. I was sick of being overwhelmed by all the dorky under aged white kids at all of their shows. Glad to see they are branching out to the black puppet demographic....

SCIFreak- you say "back in the days"- I'd just like to point out that Greyboy is Denson's ORIGINAL band. He formed the tiny universe in '97 as a sidecar project. Personally I feel that the allstars lay down some of the funkiest grooves of all time (nothing against the universe, of course- I devoted many years my life to catching their shows). And, regarding your comment about it all sounding the same- obviously all that chesse has left you constipated and affected your better judgement.
