BURNIN SMYRNANS HOST 3RD ANNUAL FEST
WITH HEAVY PETS, LAURA REED, BOOMBOX AND MORE

Burnin Ones
While gearing up for the release of their new album, Travel Along (March. 11), The Burnin Smyrnans are proud to announce the lineup for their 3rd annual Camp Jam Festival at Crooked Tree Farms, April 18-20 in Lacochee, FL. The festival, which includes two nights of performances by the Burnin Smyrnans, also features SOJA (Soldiers of Jah Army, Boombox, SeepeopleS, Strut, The Heavy Pets, Laura Reed & Deep Pocket and many more. With 72 acres of secluded land, plenty of great camping, two stages and 28 bands, the festival promises to be one of the more memorable musical events taking place in the Southeast this year.

"We are very excited about this year's festival, which will be bigger and better than ever. We took a lot of time and effort to put together a line up of artists and bands that we thought were out there making original music. I think it will be a well rounded musical event with something for everyone," says Jeff White, festival organizer and bassist for the Burnin Smyrnans.

Before hosting Camp Jam, the Burnin Smyrnans will be on tour throughout the Southeast leading up to the festival, sharing their fiery brand of roots based psychedelic funk and dub rock. Check out their MySpace Page and find tour dates HERE.

"SOJA is a great band to see, they are always fun. white guys with dreads singing great original reggae tunes"

This is exactly why they are an abomination to music. Please, white boys singing about Jah? In Rasta accents? Are you kidding me? They've completely hi-jacked someone's culture. I can't stand these guys.

NRSingh - do you realize that rock and roll in general, the blues and jazz were created by african americans? are we "hi-jacking" their culture when we see any of the (white) bands discussed on jambase? everyone who creates music was inspired by someone else and if we did not have an open mind by listening to music from other people's cultures, white people would be stuck with polka and the waltz only....

please don't take this as a personal attack, just listen to these bands before you are sickened by their music.

NRSingh you are retarded. SOJA is good stuff. They address your stance on what they are doing in their music and handle it pretty well. Boombox is awesome as well. sorry for the negativity.

I agree as well. I DJ reggae. I do not wear red gold green, because I am not a Rasta. I do not wear Black Green Yellow, because I am not Jamaican. That is one of my peeves as well. It does not matter if you are black or white. If you are praising Ras Tafari you are a hippocrite if you are drunk at a show. Then go home and have a big peice of meet.

As for white boy reggae there is nothing wrong with it. If you praise Ras Tafari you'd better know that Emmanuel Haile Selassie was a savior to these people, and get your culture straight. Not because you smoke weed and think its cool.

Loving the smaller, home grown festies getting some press. Although I do enjoy one, maybe two BIG fests a year, the smaller ones is where its at for my money. BOOMBOX is a great time!!!! Soo much fun.

soja is a great band, they have put out two great cds back to back .just because they are white shouldnt have anything to do with it.just because they beleive in religion that is formed by mostly black isn't that big of a deal. would you hate on someone that switched different religions besides this one and choose to express in there music. thats fuckin stupid.

Its good to see a festival with relatively low ticket prices.

as for the whitebwoy reggae comments. Anyone ever hear of Collie Buddz? he gets respect in the dancehall community. same with Rocker-T. There is a lot of great stuff that Jambase doesn't mention. now if anyone is "hijacking" reggae music, I would say it is Matisyahu.

I can agree thought that a lot of people that rock the red, gold, and green don't fully understand where the movement comes from. but thats not for anyone else to call out. I 'n I self is my most important relationship. The light of jah is available to everybody. Its not what you call something, that makes it what it is. Babylon system wants us to be divided. ONE LOVE.

NR Singh and Deklen- Religion is all in our minds. Some people choose to be Christian, some people choose to be Muslim, some Jewish, and on and on. The young, white men in SOJA happen to have chosen to be Rastafarian. Does the fact that they're not black give them any less right to sing the songs of their chosen faith? Does your skin color have to match the majority in order to share in the group ethos? I don't see how they're hijacking a culture simply by being part of it.

Goldfinger DJ- I agree with some of what you're saying with the hypocrisy thing. However, I don't agree that you have to be a Rasta to rock some red, gold, and green. I personally am an Atheist. I learn lessons from many different religions but don't subscribe fully to any of them. However, I sometimes wear the colors because I respect the symbols: red for the blood shed to preserve Ethiopia and Ethiopians, gold for the sun that provides for all, and green for good ole Mother Earth. Is every person that you see wearing an FDNY hat really a New York firefighter? No, they just respect and appreciate them and show it by wearing the symbol. I do agree with you though that some people see red, gold and green and just assume that it means you smoke weed .

I would encourage anyone reading this thread to listen to the SOJA song "Can't Tell Me" off their latest album Get Wiser.

One Love.

Heavy Pets kinda sound like Phish but in a good way, they're like an old school jamband or something, the kind of band JamBase used to cover when they first started. The real catch of this festy is Laura Reed and Deep Pocket, I highly recommend you seek their music and live show out, you won't be sorry.
